Chapter 118: CHOOSING AN ACTRESS 2
"Since that is settled, let’s get into what we have today." Harlow smiled.
"There’s no need we already picked an actress." Harlow frowned.
"And who may that be?" She asked.
"Claudia Blackwood," Robert said nonchalantly. He had chosen the girl because of the deal he made with her. In exchange for what he wanted so badly he promised to give her a hit movie when next he finds a good screenplay. He was fulfilling his promise by choosing Claudia to play the lead role.
"I’m afraid I do not want her for my movie Mr Robert." Harlow bellowed. Ever since she got here this man has been picking fights with her, she doesn’t care if he doesn’t like her in the end, but she would not let him destroy her movie with a local untalented actress.
Harlow didn’t want to pick Claudia because of their previous fights, she knew her sister wasn’t talented in acting. It’s the reason her career had gone nowhere. She is even a better actor than Claudia.
"And why don’t you want her if I may ask?" Robert asked.
"Because she doesn’t fit my character description," Harlow said but her words only made Robert chuckle. "You really don’t know anything about movies little girl."
"Claudia is marketable. Both she and her family have been on the news for a while now. Anything she touches turns to gold." He said. "We should not be discussing business with little incorrigible girls." He said turning to the other men.
"Mr. Robert," she said, her voice cutting through the room, "you’re only a producer. What exactly makes you a marketing expert?" Her question was sharp, and it earned her a few surprised glances from the others at the table.
"It doesn’t matter who the actress is," Harlow continued, her tone unwavering. "Even new, unknown actors can bring a movie to life with real talent. Combine that with a compelling story, and the film will succeed on its own merit, not because of someone’s last name or media scandals."
Robert Robinson wasn’t at all pleased by her statement. He frowned deeply as she stared at her.
His smug expression didn’t waver as he spoke. "I’ve been in this industry for over 30 years," he shot back, his voice dripping with condescension. "I’ve directed movies far superior to this one, with flawless storylines and marketing strategies you wouldn’t begin to understand. Claudia fits the role perfectly, and the only adjustment the script needs is to change the lead’s red hair to dark hair to suit her."
"You’re only a scriptwriter, you should stick to that and leave the other job to the professionals."
Harlow knew talking to this man was pointless so she turned to Mr Collin Berg.
"Mr Berg, do you agree with him? I don’t want Claudia Blackwood as the lead role?" Harlow asked.
Before Collin could respond, Robert cut in, his voice louder. "Claudia is the right choice. Not only is she signed to this company, but Frank Blackwood himself wants her as the lead."
There it was, the real reason for Claudia’s selection. Her father. Of course, he had a hand in this.
"I know you and your sister are not on good terms at the moment, but could you drop your feelings for a moment and do the right thing?" Paul cut in. He’s one of the biggest directors in Halkhalls. So far, he has directed the top five highest-grossing movies in the world, and seems to be best friends.
"She is a Blackwood too?" Robert asked surprised himself.
"Yes, the second Blackwood daughter. The one who got divorced 24 hours after her wedding. I’m sorry if I may have offended you, Miss Blackwood." Clermont said.
"You have done nothing wrong than say the truth," Robert said.
"I see why you don’t want your sister as your lead role, don’t you think this just screams jealousy, Miss Harlow." Everyone in the room stared at her weirdly. If anyone should tell Harlow men loved to gossip she never would have believed them, but these men seem to love gossip more than their works.
She knows she has truly embarrassed herself to the public. In their eyes, she’s only jealous of Claudia because Alanis is engaged to her even if their engagement was called off.
Claudia had manipulated the public into thinking she was getting married to Alanis.
Harlow’s knuckles had turned white from how hard she clenched her fist.
"I believe we’re all here to discuss about the movie and not my personal life or what you see on the media." She said politely, maintaining her composure.
"It doesn’t dispute the fact that you’re jealous of your sister because she stole your man." Robert laughed.
"To settle our differences for the movie, there’ll be an audition and the best actress for the lead role will be decided."
"That is a good idea," Evans said immediately.
"It seems you have forgotten what your position in this movie is about," Robert said.
"If I may remind you, Harlow, you have no say when it comes to deciding the lead roles for the movie. If you continue with this irksome behavior, we will all opt out of the movie, and believe me when I say, no other movie studio will accept your piece of crap." Paul threatened.
After the meeting, Harlow left Shoot Pictures to the location Lay had picked for their hangout. She couldn’t believe she had spent hours in a baseless meeting, arguing with a bunch of proud old men who in the end threatened to ruin her career.
She smiled. What she needed right now was something that could make her relax. Something that would make her forget everything that happened today. She should have known her father’s apology was only a means of distraction before he strikes again.
But this? This is the last straw. She would never allow Claudia to be a part of her movie. She would find good actresses fit for the role and another production company.
Harlow stepped out of the organization and into her car.
