THE BILLIONAIRE'S VENGEFUL WIFE RETURNS
Chapter 106: THE MENACE IS BACK

Chapter 106: THE MENACE IS BACK

She’s back!"

"Who?"

"Madam. I saw Master bring her back home last night. It wasn’t easy, they fought the entire way, and I heard their shouting carried on until the early hours."

The maids huddled together in the corner of the grand kitchen, their whispers barely audible over the clinking of dishes and the simmering of pots.

"You’d better be careful not to incur her wrath this morning," one of the senior maids warned, a stern look on her face. She waved her hand, signaling the others to get back to work.

As though her words carried the weight of a royal decree, the maids immediately dispersed, scattering like leaves in the wind. None of them wanted to be caught in their Madam Harlow’s crosshairs, not after what they had witnessed during her first day here.

It was the stuff of legend among the staff. They had all seen how she effortlessly disgraced their master’s family, making the almighty Garth and her notorious children kiss her feet. Garth looked powerless and worthless before their new madam.

What they didn’t understand was why their boss was still going after this woman after everything she had done.

Was he bewitched?

Under some sort of spell? No one could say for certain, but speculation ran wild.

Amid the subdued chaos, a figure emerged, moving with a confidence that silenced the murmurs. A small beautiful woman strode among the other maids, her steps deliberate and daring as she made her way toward Harlow’s room. In her hands was a basket of new sheets.

The other maids exchanged glances. Some pitied her, others frowned at her boldness. This new maid, even if have been here for only a few days, has gained favor from their master and Grandma Hamilton.

"Is she mad?" one of the younger maids whispered, her wide eyes following the woman’s retreating figure.

"Why would she volunteer to serve Madam herself?" another chimed in.

"She should’ve let Mrs. Jane handle it," the first maid said, shaking her head. "At least Jane knows how to deal with her temper."

"She’s here on a mission and I just know it. The earlier we get her out of here, the better for all of us." Another maid said.

"Are you Sheila? To me, I just think she’s lucky." Another maid shrugged, but Sheila shook her head.

"Gaining the master’s favor, as well as the ruthless grandmother, I think she’s..." Sheila looked around. "...Trying to seduce him." The other maids held their lips from gasping out loud. One frowned.

"But she’s too old to seduce the master. Why would Master Alanis look at such an old and wasted woman?" One maid cleared her throat immediately as the said maid passed by.

The woman moved calmly through the stairs, she didn’t stop walking till she was standing before Harlow’s room door. She twisted the nob and entered the room.

"Such boldness." One of the gossiping maids said.

"Don’t worry, Miss Harlow will embarrass her immediately. She only lets Jane attend to her." They all giggled staring at the door. One minute passed, then two, and the maid was not yet out. The other maids began to panic, having their new madam killed the women already.

30 minutes passed, 45, and then an hour.

"Why is everyone gathered here?" One of the senior maids walked up to them.

"The maid sent to attend to madam is yet to come out. W... We think she’s dead." One of the small maids said staring at the door.

"That’s impossible." The senior maid said. Immediately, Harlow’s room door opened to the maid stepping out all happy and smiling with their madam.

The other maid’s mouths were left hanging open. They couldn’t believe it, their dangerous madam was smiling with a maid. The same maid they all swore would die.

"You all should be ashamed of yourself. Gathering so early to gossip... Hurry up to your duty post now." They scattered after her words. When Harlow reached the senior maid, she bowed but as always, was ignored by their new madam. This only made the maids envy the new maid more.

Earlier,

When Ava heard of Harlow’s return, she was the most excited and had volunteered to attend to her needs personally. She has been living here as Alanis Hamilton’s maid for a week now and she knew Harlow would be so worried about her.

Alanis was totally different from the man she thought he was. He was kind, gentle, and very generous. It turns out Grandma Hamilton was also fond of her. So far, Ava’s stay in the Hamilton mansion was much better than that of the Blackwoods. No one had bullied her yet and she has slept in peace the last.

She had heard the silent gossip of the other maids but chose to ignore them completely. They were not important to her, only her Miss Harlow was important to her at the moment.

Inside, the room was bathed in soft, golden sunlight filtering through the sheer curtains. It was spacious, luxurious, and beautiful. It matched Harlow’s soft nature perfectly.

Harlow sat by the window, her legs crossed elegantly, a steaming cup of tea in her hands. She didn’t look up as the woman entered, her piercing green eyes fixed on the garden outside as she thought of the next evil thing to do to the Hamiltons.

Since Alanis wanted her back so badly, it was time she dealt with him and his family.

"Good morning, Miss Harlow," Ava greeted as she stepped inside the room. Harlow hearing the familiar voice turned around only to be greeted by her maid. She smiled immediately.

"Oh, Ava," Harlow called. She couldn’t believe it. Andrew had said Alanis hadn’t responded to any of his messages about Ava and she was thinking about confronting him herself.

"I’ve missed you so much," Harlow said as she hugged her maid.

"I’ve missed you too Miss Harlow. I felt relieved when Master Alanis said you were fine. I’m sorry things went down that way." Ava apologized quickly.
