Chapter 216: We Found Her

Once the dinner was over, Penelope and Theodore left while Gracia stayed behind with Elias. Evelyn wanted them to stay for the night, as they rarely met these days, and she missed them dearly.

"Where is Zevian?" Gracia asked as Evelyn came downstairs alone after finishing her shower.

"He is clearing up tasks for tomorrow," Evelyn replied with a smile.

"Good," Avery nodded in satisfaction. He better take care of Evelyn, or else she would teach him a lesson. Her eyes glinted with determination, and she crossed her arms defiantly.

"Mommy!" Kiana, who had gone with Elias to her playroom, returned holding a few plushies in her hand.

Once Elias put her down, she rushed to Evelyn while Elias took a seat beside Gracia.

"It’s sleeping time, Kia," Avery told the little girl, wondering if she wanted to play now.

"I know," Kiana shot back at her aunt before smiling at Evelyn. "Mommy, you should play with these toys." Looking down at the dolls, she added, "But I don’t know if Baby Brother would like them. I don’t have trucks and guns like Yael."

Everyone smiled at her words. Avery leaned forward and questioned, "How are you so sure it’s gonna be a boy, little devil?" When Kiana looked at her in confusion, Avery added, "It might be a girl too."

Kiana looked at Evelyn, who nodded in confirmation. "But I hope it’s a baby boy," Kiana murmured.

"Why, sweetie? You don’t want a sister?" Gracia asked curiously.

"No. I am happy, but I would be happier if it’s a baby brother," Kiana replied. Turning to Elias, she added with a smile, "I will love him like Mommy loves Uncle Eli." Straightening her shoulders, she continued, "I will also protect him from all the bad guys."

Everyone was surprised at her confession. Kids learn from their surroundings, and Kiana seemed to have observed the siblings very keenly.

Elias glanced at Evelyn, who was also looking at him, and they both smiled. Indeed, Evelyn had made his life way better. While their parents were busy building their circle, she was busy taking care of him, making sure he didn’t feel lonely in their childhood. Even a real sister wouldn’t have loved him the way Evelyn had done all these years.

"Come here, sweetie," Gracia called the little girl, and once Kiana walked over, she kissed her head. "Whether it’s a boy or girl, they would be lucky to have a sister like you."

"No, I am more lucky," Kiana murmured with a sheepish smile, happy hearing the praises.

"Alright. It’s sleeping time, little devil," Avery was the one to break the little girl’s joy. "You have school tomorrow."

Kiana huffed in protest, making everyone smile at her cuteness. Patting her head, Gracia suggested, "How about you sleep with Grandma tonight? I will read you a story."

A smile lit up Kiana’s face, and she nodded gingerly. Picking her up, Gracia wished the trio goodnight before walking to the guest room.

Elias looked at the time and decided to leave too. "I need to return." When Evelyn looked at him, he added, "He would be waiting for us."

Evelyn’s smile vanished at the mention of William. Though she was reluctant to let Elias go, she had to in consideration of his health. "Make sure you visit at least once a week," she demanded with a pout.

Elias nodded with a smile. Avery also decided to return since she had a field visit tomorrow, and it would take hours from here.

"I will drop you off," she suggested, and Elias nodded.

Evelyn hugged them and bid them farewell. Once they drove away, she walked back to her room. Zevian, who was still glued to his screen, closed the laptop as she reached the couch.

"All done?" Evelyn asked, sitting beside him. Zevian nodded and pulled her into a hug. Evelyn rested her head on his chest and sighed, her mind occupied with Sophia again.

Zevian looked down at her expression, realizing what she was thinking about. "Everyone is trying their best," he said softly.

"I know, and that’s what is frustrating," Evelyn replied. Even on her happiest day, Sophia was ruining it without even being here. That was grating her nerves.

Zevian kissed the top of her head and hugged her tightly. He hoped they could find her soon; otherwise, Evelyn wouldn’t be able to focus on herself and enjoy this beautiful time.

"What do you want to do tomorrow?" Zevian tried to distract her. "Let’s go to the beach," he suggested.

Evelyn shook her head and looked up at him. With a smile, she added, "I want you to cook for me tomorrow. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner."

"Yes, milady," Zevian nodded.

"I also want you to watch a movie with me," Evelyn added.

"And?"

Evelyn chuckled and continued telling her wishes one by one. Zevian listened with a smile, and she spent the next few minutes talking about what she wished to do during the pregnancy until she fell asleep. He slowly picked her up and laid her on the bed. Turning off the lights, he lay down beside her. Evelyn snuggled closer, and both fell asleep, leaving behind their worries.

———

The next day, after enjoying a delightful breakfast with Zevian, they settled on the couch in their room. Evelyn lay on Zevian’s lap, going through the hundred links Avery had sent her. They included everything from food to exercises for a five-week pregnant woman.

"She should be working with our client. But look at her," Evelyn complained with a smile. Zevian looked at the text and shook his head. His cousin was behaving more like a mother, surpassing even Gracia and his mom Rosalind in the competition.

They watched the videos and read the articles, talking and laughing about certain things. They were enjoying themselves, all their worries put on pause for a while.

A maid came in and informed them, "Sir, Elder Master and Madam have returned."

"Oh, they are already here!" Evelyn grinned excitedly. Getting up, she put on her slippers and rushed downstairs.

"Slow down," Zevian warned her, following her as she ran out of the room.

Evelyn was careful on the steps, her smile widening as she saw her in-laws entering the house.

"Evy!" Rosalind shoved her handbag into Jonathan’s hand and rushed inside, her arms wide and ready to hug her darling daughter-in-law.

Evelyn rushed over and embraced Rosalind quickly. It was longer than the usual brief hugs they shared. Rosalind smiled, her eyes moistened with tears.

Breaking the hug, she tiptoed and kissed Evelyn’s forehead. "Did you have breakfast?"

"Yes, Mom. Ian prepared it for me," Evelyn replied with a smile.

"Oh honey, stop crying," Jonathan walked over to the ladies. "She hasn’t stopped since last night. Even the pilots were worried they’d end up getting drowned in the sky," he joked.

Rosalind sniffled and glared at her husband. She hit his shoulder, making Evelyn break into a chuckle.

Jonathan put a hand around his son’s shoulder and patted gently. His actions conveyed how happy he was, as he never really made any physical contact, and Rosalind broke into a smile.

"How can you make me carry all the bags, Father-in-law?" Evelyn and Zevian heard a familiar voice. They turned around to see Damien dragging a few bags.

Jonathan’s smile disappeared at his words. "This scoundrel," he scowled. Rosalind broke into a chuckle. Ever since Natalie and Damien’s fake marriage, Damien had been addressing him formally, and even during their stay the last few days, he never missed it. She liked that there was someone who could get on her husband’s nerves.

"Damien!" Evelyn beamed with a smile and walked toward him. They had tried to connect with him last night, but he was unreachable as usual, and even Lucius was busy, so they couldn’t deliver the news.

"Careful," Damien warned with a smile. He walked over and hugged Evelyn. "And congratulations. I hope God gives you enough strength to handle three kids," he joked, looking at his friend.

Zevian walked over, and both shared a hug despite the banter. Evelyn smiled as the two best friends reconnected.

"And I also have some good news for you," Damien said with a smile. When the couple looked at him, almost guessing it right, he added, "We tracked that woman."

"Really?!" Evelyn gasped in surprise. She had been praying for it, and now hearing it felt unbelievable.

Damien nodded with a small smile. "Let’s discuss in your study," he added, to which Zevian nodded.

The butler and staff took care of the luggage while Rosalind quickly went to prepare something special for Evelyn, leaving her with the men. Zevian and Evelyn settled on the couch while Damien took out his tablet, and Jonathan, who had already seen the details, sat across from the couple.

Damien opened the file and passed it to the couple. "She got a bob cut and dyed her hair blonde. Using a fake ID, she faked being a man and sailed on a goods transport ship as a cleaner," he briefed them.

Zevian scrolled through the images. Sophia was an entirely different person, a fragile young man with a fake beard and mustache, wearing ragged and dirty attire—different from her usual kind and noble appearance.

"A goods ship sailed from Valencia to the north a few days after we did the press conference," Damien continued as they skimmed through pictures of Sophia working on the deck and caught in groups. She had always been in the mass, perfectly blending into the background, making it hard to guess her identity.

"And from there, she slipped onto another ship. She kept changing ships at every dock, buying different IDs at different major cities that kept her off our hooks," Damien explained in detail. He was partly frustrated that they had let her escape right beneath their noses and also because she was smarter than the psychos he had encountered until now.

Evelyn looked through the pictures. "When will they bring her?" she asked.

"The ship she is on right now will dock in a day in one of the northern cities. The cops are already informed about it, so they will catch her right away," Damien replied. "Ronan had sent his allies, and even Lucius flew last night."

Evelyn nodded with a smile. She looked at Sophia on the screen, feeling anxious for some weird reason. Even with such powerful people backing her up, she couldn’t stop feeling weary about Sophia. Zevian wrapped a hand around her shoulder, and she sighed again, hoping to wrap everything up soon and safely.
