Chapter 215: Big Sister

"What?!" Avery got up from her chair in shock, her eyes wide as she stared at Evelyn, waiting for her to explain more. She sat again and held onto Evelyn’s hand. "What exactly happened, Evy?"

Evelyn took a few seconds to respond, her eyes lowered to her belly. Her expression was a mix of frustration and sadness, her slumped shoulders reflecting the turmoil inside her. She sighed and began to brief Avery about their fight.

"You know I have wanted to go out for a couple of days now, right?" Evelyn started slowly.

Avery nodded, recalling Evelyn’s cravings to eat from a famous dining house. Since she wished to go out with Zevian, she didn’t bother to tag along.

"So I asked him this morning if he got any time today. He checked his schedule and said he would take me tomorrow. But that’s like the 10th ’tomorrow’ already in a row." Evelyn ranted, her voice filled with irritation. She took a deep breath to calm herself down and continued, "He keeps giving excuses every day. I mean, I know he has an entire empire to manage, but he should give at least a little amount of time in his day for us."

Avery nodded in agreement. "So you fought over it?" Avery murmured in response, trying to analyze the situation.

Evelyn nodded and continued, "We argued for a while, things escalated and I shouted at him. I told him to just divorce me since he was so in love with his work. And you know how he replied?" Taking a deep breath, she added, "He said fine and shut the door on my face."

"What?" Avery frowned in response. Her anger shot up as Evelyn fell silent. "How dare he?!" She growled with a scowl. Yeah, Evelyn shouldn’t have brought up the divorce, but that didn’t mean Zevian would treat her best friend like this.

Avery took out her phone and grumbled, "Tell me to teach that moron a lesson!" She dialed her cousin’s number and walked out of the room.

Evelyn watched as Avery walked out, another sigh escaping her lips. She knew she was being petty, but the way Zevian acted this morning kept irking her. It was also making her hyper-emotional and she couldn’t help but tear up recalling the way he had reacted harshly.

Almost an hour later, Zevian rushed inside the cabin, followed by his assistant, Brandon. Avery and Evelyn got up from their chairs at his arrival. He closed the gap between them with a few long strides and reached Evelyn.

"Are you okay?" he asked, scanning her, then glaring at his cousin. "What are you doing here? Why haven’t you gotten her checked up yet?" he scolded Avery, making her scoff out loud.

"Look at you, acting all concerned after hurting her," Avery mocked him, stepping in front of Evelyn. She scolded him, "How could you slam the door?" When Zevian didn’t respond, his eyes fixed on Evelyn, she continued her rant, "Yeah, she shouldn’t have brought up the divorce, but the pregnancy hormones have made her react that way. But what’s wrong with you? Is it that hard to spend some time with her?"

Brandon, Zevian’s assistant, gasped out loud in surprise. He quickly took out his phone to share the good news with their teams. Zevian creased his brow, thinking he heard something wrong.

"What?"

"She is pregnant, idiot. You will be a father soon," Avery repeated, her voice still filled with annoyance. "And it’s better actually if you divorce. If you can’t even give her time..."

Avery didn’t get to finish her sentence as Zevian pushed her aside and hugged Evelyn, leaving his cousin almost hitting the ground. Luckily, Brandon was fast and helped Avery from falling. She sighed, seeing the couple, and later smiled, happy for both of them.

Evelyn felt his arms tighten around her, wrapping her in warmth and security. It was a feeling she had missed so much.

Zevian slowly broke the hug and looked at her. Evelyn could see the happiness in his eyes, glistening with unshed tears that moved her to tears too. "Is it true?" he asked, his voice low and filled with disbelief.

Evelyn nodded, tears spilling out of her eyes. All her earlier frustration washed away, replaced by immense joy that she wasn’t able to enjoy earlier. It was a moment she had longed for, one that made everything else seem insignificant.

Zevian hugged her again, his happiness barely contained. Evelyn sniffled gently and snuggled into his chest, both unable to hold back their emotions.

Breaking the hug, Zevian held her hand and looked at her. "I should not have reacted that way. I am sorry."

Evelyn shook her head and hugged him again. His reaction changed everything for her. How could she still be angry when he was looking at her like this as if she had added more colors to his grey life?

This time, Zevian hugged her firmly yet cautiously, not too tight as if it would hurt her. He kissed the top of her head and said, "I promise to take you out every day from today."

Evelyn smiled and murmured against his chest, "You better."

Zevian nodded with a smile, and they stayed there for a while, lost in each other’s arms, trying to process it completely. Everything had felt like it was going downhill for the last two months, but then this news came, bringing new hope and light to their stressed lives. For the first time ever, Evelyn felt like she was blessed and was beyond grateful for it.

The doctor entered just at the right time and smiled in relief. From the way Evelyn and Zevian seemed happy, there was no need to sit and ask them if they were okay with this pregnancy.

"Did you finish your rounds, Doc?" Avery asked, to which Dr. Casey nodded. Brandon curtly nodded to the doctor and her nurse. The couple broke their hug and greeted her.

"Should we get done with the scanning?" Casey asked again, as they had delayed it for hours now. Usually, they would proceed right after tests, but since Evelyn needed some time, they agreed with her request.

Evelyn nodded, and Casey ordered her team to prepare for it. Zevian walked Evelyn out, with Avery following behind with a grin.

Once the scanning and other tests were over, Casey detailed to the couple how it was going to be. She briefed them on a few things, stressing that Evelyn to not lift heavy weights and take care of herself properly. After prescribing a few things, she bid farewell to the couple.

"I got this book from the front desk," Avery showed a book with a smile. She was waiting outside Casey’s cabin and couldn’t help but look around the hospital. Flipping through the pages, she continued, "It’s basically about how things evolve in these 9 months. You should read it daily."

Evelyn nodded with a smile. Avery kept babbling about a hundred things, and she listened patiently, her excitement warming her heart. Her baby was surely getting the best godmother ever.

Once they were out, Brandon was already waiting in their car. Zevian helped Evelyn settle in the backseat and took a seat beside her while Avery went to her car. She had so much to plan and needed to reach the mansion first.

"Should we call everyone over for dinner and announce it?" Evelyn suggested as they drove out of the hospital.

Zevian nodded in response. Evelyn smiled and looked outside. The sun was already setting beneath the sky, and it would be exciting to see everyone’s reaction at once. She moved closer and rested her head on Zevian’s shoulder. He took her hand and kissed it gently before interlocking it with his hand. Both couldn’t stop smiling, their hearts swelled with joy.

By the time they reached Reign’s mansion, it was already dark. Zevian helped Evelyn out of the car and then ordered Brandon to go home. Avery, who had already arrived, walked up to them.

Clinging to Evelyn’s arm, Avery excitedly took her inside. "Let’s go!"

As they reached inside, everything was silent. The entire hall was enveloped in shadows, the only sound being their footsteps echoing through the space. Zevian and Evelyn exchanged glances, but Avery smiled, relieved that everything had been arranged per her orders.

"Oh, there must be a power outage," Avery murmured and let go of Evelyn. Turning to Zevian, she added, "Stay with her. I will go and check with the butler." With that, she hurried inside the hall.

"Use your phone," Zevian nagged his cousin but sighed when she disappeared into the shadows. He took out his phone to turn on the flash, but just before he did, the entire hall burst into lights.

"Congratulations!" they heard loud cheers, followed by confetti bursts.

Evelyn, who was startled, broke into a smile to see everyone gathered in the hall. Balloons and banners decorated the space, making her eyes well up with tears. She glanced at Avery, who flipped back her hair proudly, declaring that she was the mastermind behind all of it. Evelyn chuckled, wiping the corner of her eyes.

Zevian, who was equally surprised, broke into a smile. Holding onto Evelyn’s hand, he walked over to the group.

Kiana, who was in Elias’s arms, quickly got down. She rushed to her parents, and Evelyn squatted down to pick her up. Others smiled as Zevian joined Evelyn, and they hugged their little bear tightly.

Kiana broke the hug and looked at Evelyn. "Avy told me you are bringing a baby." Looking around, the little girl pouted, "Where is it?"

Evelyn chuckled. "You’re going to have to wait a few more months, darling." Placing a hand on her tummy, she added, "It’s still growing inside Mommy."

Kiana looked at Evelyn’s tummy and smiled widely. "So, I will be a sister soon?" she asked.

"Yes," Zevian replied. Ruffling her hair, he smiled, "You’re going to be a big sister soon."

"Yay!!" Kiana chirped. She hugged Evelyn again, her joy barely contained. Evelyn smiled, and Zevian caressed the little bear’s head, the moment filled with warmth and happiness.

Everyone smiled as the trio walked toward them. Gracia was the first to step forward. Evelyn rushed to her and hugged her tightly.

"Congrats, sweetie," Gracia murmured, her voice choking with happiness as she patted Evelyn’s head. She took out a hand toward Zevian, who held it with a smile.

It was Elias’s turn next, who was still in his office suit. William’s health had deteriorated, and he had to move back. Gracia had returned to Wright’s mansion along with him, and both were now taking care of the company, which meant they barely got to meet.

Avery’s parents patiently waited for their turn. Theodora hugged his nephew while Penelope hugged Evelyn. "I am so happy for you, Evy," Penelope murmured, tears spilling out of her eyes.

"Ah, Mom, stop crying!" Avery caressed her mother’s back. Penelope had been crying ever since she told the news, and seeing her, Avery was getting emotional too.

"We are here too!" Evelyn and Zevian heard familiar voices. They turned toward the butler, who was holding a tablet.

"Mom, Dad," Evelyn greeted her in-laws who had gone to visit Natalie. Zevian took the tablet and smiled, seeing his sister after what felt like months.

"Congrats," Natalie said to the couple. Turning to her parents, she added, "They are already preparing to leave." The moment Avery broke the news, Jonathan swiftly called his team to prepare the jet. And Rosalind, who was planning to stay at least for a week, also decided to join him.

"Sleep early and tell the butler to give you a glass of milk," Rosalind started to nag Evelyn. "Don’t stay up late, okay? We will be there before you wake up."

Evelyn nodded with a smile. Gracia smiled at Rosalind’s words. She need not worry much about Evelyn since Rosy would take care of her well.

Once they finished talking, Avery nodded to the butler. "It’s cake time!"

Everything was swiftly arranged. Evelyn chuckled as the cake was brought up, layered in pink. Avery was making her manifestation power work, hoping for a girl.

Avery passed the knife, and Zevian took it. Everyone cheered as they cut the cake. Evelyn took out a piece and turned to Kiana first.

Kiana happily ate the cake. "Hmm. It’s yummy!" she commented, making everyone smile.

Evelyn turned around, and Zevian, who was already holding a piece, fed her. Evelyn ate it with a smile, and they hugged as Zevian planted a kiss on her head.

Everyone was happy to see the couple finally able to relax. The last two months had been torturous for them, and they hoped for them to be happy and enjoy this phase. Little did they know, a storm was already sailing toward them, one they had been waiting for long.
