Chapter 198: Lovely Guests -1
Sophia fell, her body hitting against the rocks, the impact jarring and painful. She was clueless, trembling, not sure what had happened. It was then she realized a rope was tied around her waist all this time. She had been so scared and panicked at the sight of Ronan that she failed to notice earlier. The rough texture of the rope bit into her skin, but it was the only thing keeping her from plummeting to her death.
A sigh of relief escaped her mouth as someone started pulling her up. Fortunately, she hadn’t died yet, but what awaited her at the top didn’t let her enjoy her narrow escape from death. Her body was bruised and battered, her breaths coming in ragged gasps as she was hoisted back up. The fear still clung to her, making her heart race uncontrollably.
As she reached the edge of the cliff, Ronan’s men helped her and pulled her out. Avery could barely hold her snicker as Sophia rolled on the ground, sitting up and panting for air. The once proud woman was now crumbling like an abandoned puppy, and Avery couldn’t wait to see what Ronan would do to her. He was a mafia kingpin for a reason!
"Get her some water," Ronan suggested to his men. His voice was so gentle and kind, but it was laced with a narcissistic undertone. Sophia glared at him, heaving heavy panting sighs. Ronan smiled sweetly at her, patiently waiting for her to calm down so he could throw another blow.
The men helped her out of the ropes tied around her, and Sophia grabbed for the water, drinking it as if she had been thirsty for decades. She coughed out loud, wiping her mouth before drinking again. She was desperate and scared, trembling and shaking, her body still reeling from the shock and fear.
"Slow down. I don’t want you to die so soon," Ronan commented with the same sweet smile. Sophia sneered at his comment and threw aside the bottle. She wanted to run away but was quite sure she would be brought back here, bound to be tortured more.
She still tried to get up, but the moment she did, two bouncers held her up, locking her hands.
"Leave me, assholes!" Sophia cried out loud, kicking her legs in the air. She seethed at Ronan, who was smiling, her eyes then falling on Evelyn leaning against her car. It was all because of her!
"What’s the hurry, Mrs. Wright?" Ronan murmured, walking closer and patting her cheeks as if dealing with a kid throwing tantrums.
Sophia gritted her teeth, almost urging to spit at him, but she held back. He might just extend her death date if she further poked his anger.
"Just a reminder to try running away," Ronan continued, his tone dropping seriously low. "Even if you do, I will hunt you down and bring you back."
"Do you even know who is on my side?" Sophia dared to make false claims, thinking it might help her out. But her question only made Ronan laugh out loud, the chilly voice echoing around the place.
"Are you talking about your lover?" Ronan asked in a mocking tone. When Sophia simply stared at him, he continued, "Didn’t he cut all his ties with you yesterday?"
Sophia’s expression paled, her eyes widened in horror. How did he know? Were they tracking her phone? Ronan’s confident smile answered all her questions, confirming that she was trapped in all the ways possible. But his next words shocked her even more.
"But I think he did long ago when you sent him away to Arabia," Ronan murmured, picking out his phone. "He even found a pretty girl in Lobos’ organization and seemed to be having lots of fun with her."
"Wh... what..." Sophia’s words stuck in her throat as Ronan showed pictures of Maverick playing around with a young girl. He swiped, and a video of them making out popped up, numbing her senses. The last hope that Maverick was still angry, that he would return to her at least for Elias’s sake, broke completely. Her heart crushed into million pieces as she stared at the girl, realizing all the efforts she put in to make him whatever he was today went in vain.
"I think I can’t even blame him. You just kept treating him like a pawn all these years, and he got tired of that shit," Ronan continued, rubbing salt on her wounds. With a smile, he added, "I am happy he moved on and found a better woman."
"You!" Sophia sneered, her anger at its peak. It felt like she lost everything today, and his words cut deeper wounds inside her. Is this how everyone felt when she mistreated them? It was painfully frustrating that she felt hopeless and lonely.
Ronan placed his phone back in his pocket. Taking out her car keys, he passed them to her. "It’s enough for today. Drive safe."
His men released Sophia, who grabbed the keys. Glaring at him and Evelyn one last time, she stormed down the small cliff where her car was parked.
"We will see you soon!" Evelyn said to Sophia, waving at her, and everyone broke into laughter.
Evelyn smiled at Ronan, loving every bit of his show. Walking to them, Ronan murmured, "Should we go for barbeque?"
"Yes!!" Avery clapped excitedly, and the trio left in one car, followed by two others of Ronan’s men.

The next day at Wright’s mansion, Sophia woke up with a gasp, her body still aching from last night’s torture. The memories rushed back in, having troubled her the entire night in the form of the worst nightmares. And even now, they were fresh and sent tremors down her spine. She quickly got out of the bed.
Taking a few clothes, she started packing her bag. No! She couldn’t just lose hope! Rummaging through her lockers, she took all her cards and her passport.
"Ma’am," the butler entered the room, a frown tugging at his lips, seeing how Sophia was behaving. She was frantically packing stuff, as if she had seen a nightmare and wanted to run away from it.
"Tell your master I am going to see Elias. Everything is getting so stressful, and I need some time alone," Sophia babbled, zipping the suitcase.
"But..." The butler zipped his mouth at her glare. He couldn’t help but pity the way she looked. "You should at least change clothes," he suggested hesitantly.
Sophia looked down and realized she was still in her nightgown. Her eyes then fell on her reflection in the mirror beside her, her hair a bird’s nest and her makeup smudged. If someone saw her in such condition at the airport, they would definitely call a mental hospital.
"Prepare me a bath!" she demanded, setting aside the suitcase.
The butler nodded and smiled. "It’s almost 12, should I prepare some brunch for you?" When Sophia nodded, sitting on the bed, the butler left the room, closing the door behind.
Reaching the corridor, he took out his phone and texted someone about Sophia’s escape plan. When Ronan’s assistant replied with a thumbs-up, he smiled meekly and walked downstairs.
---
Sophia got ready and walked down, dragging her suitcase with her. A frown tugged at her lips to see William still at home. Shouldn’t he be at the office, handling his business and thinking about his lovely Gracie?
"Are you going somewhere?" William asked, seeing her suitcase.
"Oh, I was thinking of visiting Eli. He must be feeling lonely and scared," Sophia lied, plastering a sad smile.
William sighed in response and nodded, making her sigh inwardly. At least, he wasn’t stopping her or throwing random questions at her. But his next words shocked her.
"We can visit him tomorrow. Go see in the kitchen, we have guests coming over for lunch."
"Guests?" Sophia frowned, her mind making a horrid guess. Much to her shock, a group entered through the main door, stopping her heart for the briefest second.
"Oh, they are here!" William beamed, getting up from the couch. He hurried over, his eyes never leaving Gracia among the group.
Evelyn held onto her mother’s hand, assuring things would be great from here. Meanwhile, Avery made sure to capture Sophia’s reaction discreetly, holding back her chuckle as she looked at Ronan as if he were a ghost.
William welcomed all of them inside. They all walked over, and Ronan stepped forward and extended his hand.
"Nice to meet you, Mrs. Wright," he said with a sweet smile as if they were meeting for the first time.
Oh, how good it would have been if she had slipped off that cliff last night? Sophia thought, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.
