Chapter 189: Birthday Surprise -2

[Starlight Hotel]

The grand party was held at the most famous place, known for its grandeur and prime location in the heart of the city. The scene outside was nothing short of chaotic elegance. Reporters lined up, their cameras flashing incessantly, while a sea of admirers cheered loudly, holding up banners and posters of Elias. Thanks to his handsome face and chiseled physique, Elias had garnered quite a fan following, and they were out in full force tonight.

The hotel itself was a masterpiece of architecture, with a stunning glass facade reflecting the vibrant city lights. Inside, the main hall where the party was held was nothing less than a royal ballroom. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting a warm glow over the elegantly decorated space. The tables were adorned with exquisite floral arrangements, and the air was filled with the soft hum of conversation and laughter.

Sophia, wearing a dramatic black ball gown reminiscent of an evil queen from medieval times, moved through the hall with an air of authority. The gown was adorned with intricate silver embroidery, and her dark hair was styled in an elaborate updo, giving her an intimidating presence. She barked orders at the staff, ensuring everything was perfect for the evening.

Her eyes eventually fell on Elias, who was leaning against the wall, looking nonchalant. Shaking her head, she strode over and scolded him, "What are you doing here?"

Elias quickly tried to hide his phone, but Sophia was faster. She snatched it away, suspicion etched on her face. "Why did you text her?" she demanded after glancing at the screen.

"She needs to be here," Elias grumbled, snatching his phone back. He was actually waiting for someone who would be accompanying her tonight. Only they had the power to crush this party and get him out of the position he never deserved to take over.

Sophia sneered before a smug smile appeared on her face. "True. She needs to watch you taking over." It had been Evelyn’s dream since she started high school to take after her father, and now seeing someone else, her brother, take that position would surely crush her.

Moving forward, she adjusted his bow and warned, "Shut your mouth around her. If you spill out anything, specifically our secret, we will be on the streets. Don’t forget it."

With that, she walked away, and Elias sighed out loud. Little did she know, he had already packed his bags, fully aware of what would happen tonight. In fact, he was the very reason her dreams would be shattered tonight. Heaving another sigh, he walked out to get his father, who was getting ready upstairs.

An hour later, Evelyn arrived with the Reign family. They had planned Gracia’s entry very late, just before Elias would sign the documents. Lucius and Rita would accompany her, their team already safely moving her to one of the rooms in this hotel.

Evelyn’s grip on Zevian’s arm tightened as they neared the hall. Zevian placed a hand over it and patted it, giving her enough confidence. Taking a deep breath, she nodded and walked inside with him.

The hall was already filled with people. Everyone who was anyone in the city was present, from press, influencers to other renowned names. As soon as Theodore stepped in with his wife, many swarmed over them. Avery was glad her father didn’t attend, knowing how his recent election win would have made him the center of attention, something her mother would have hated.

Sophia noticed the Reigns’ arrival and instantly walked over to William. William turned around, his eyes falling only on his daughter—his once daughter, to be frank. She locked eyes with him, and all he could see was the coldness that made his heart clench.

"Come, let’s greet them," Sophia said, clinging to his arm and dragging him toward them.

They exchanged a few greetings before Sophia stepped forward and hugged Evelyn. Evelyn tried to push away, but feeling all the cameras pointed at them, she gritted her teeth.

"Thanks forgetting the past and coming here," Sophia murmured. "I know you still love your brother very much."

Evelyn knew she was mocking her about their ruined relationship but didn’t give her the reaction she wanted. Breaking out now would disrupt the drama that would take place later.

After they all dispersed, Rosalind, Avery, and Evelyn stopped at one of the tables while Zevian walked with Theodore to another table as many came over to greet them.

Evelyn looked around and found Elias in a corner. It seemed like he had been looking at her all this time and instantly looked away when their eyes met. She couldn’t help but admire him a little, noting how handsome he looked in that black suit and how he had answered questions so smartly in the interview. Only if he hadn’t followed his mother, only if he had come to her and asked for her help, things could have been different between them.

Her thoughts were interrupted as the speaker, her father’s new assistant, walked on the stage and greeted them. He thanked everyone for coming and expressed his delight in hosting the event. He then praised Elias, noting how he was following in his father’s footsteps and would no doubt lead Wright Corporations to new heights.

"It’s about time we get to the main event," he said. "Let’s sign the papers."

Sophia got up and helped William to his feet. She glanced over at Evelyn’s table, her smugness never leaving her face, before walking him to the stage. Elias reluctantly joined, and all the media came forward. On the screen behind them, the camera zoomed in, showing the trio at the center.

William was the first to sign the documents, then passed the pen to Elias. Everyone cheered and clapped for him, and Elias clutched the pen tightly.

Sensing his hesitation, Sophia moved closer, guiding his hand to the desk, and ordered, "Sign, honey. The guests are waiting for you to cut the cake."

Elias gritted his teeth and looked over at Evelyn, making her frown slightly. But her attention quickly shifted to the door, as it was time for her mom’s entry.

Just as Elias’ pen touched the paper, the doors suddenly opened, and everyone turned around. Someone shrieked upon seeing Gracia, surrounded by a team of men, with Lucius and Rita right behind her.

"Oh my god!"

"What the fuck?!" someone mumbled, and the room buzzed with shock and confusion. Wasn’t she dead? How did she get here?

Evelyn looked at the stage, enjoying Sophia’s expression, which had paled. Sophia stared at Gracia, her mouth wide in shock, while Elias inwardly sighed in relief.

Meanwhile, William was stunned, his feet stuck to the cold floor. Was he dreaming? His heart ached and clenched as Gracia walked closer and closer, her eyes never leaving him. There was a certain coldness in them, a look of disappointment that became even clearer as she stepped onto the stage.

Walking over, Gracia looked at Sophia, a smirk of victory playing on her face. She then turned to William, her dumb husband, and raised her hand, slapping him harshly on the cheek.

Everyone gasped out loud, not expecting it all. William held his cheek, the touch making him realize that he wasn’t dreaming! She was real and alive!
