Chapter 188: Birthday Surprise -1
The month passed as quickly as Evelyn had hoped, and with just a few hours before Elias’s birthday party. The Wright Corporations had already made an announcement a week ago about the upcoming successions. It had been promoted all over the internet, with Elias even attending an interview with one of the top TV channels, making everyone eagerly await the big event. But instead of her son, Sophia would be getting the biggest surprise tonight.
"All set?" Zevian asked, standing by the door frame.
Evelyn turned to see him clad in a navy blue velvet suit, paired with a crisp white shirt underneath. His hair was styled perfectly, a few strands falling on his forehead, making him look handsome in every sense.
"What do you think?" she asked with a smile, twirling gently to show off her dress. It was an elegant evening gown in a deep shade of midnight blue, complementing his suit. The dress hugged her figure perfectly, flowing gracefully to the floor like a mermaid’s tail, making her look hot in every sense.
Zevian walked over and hugged her from behind. His arms wrapped tightly around her stomach, and she held onto them, a shy smile spread across her face.
The fact that everyone else would be gawking at this beauty tonight, Zevian couldn’t help but feel a little possessive. Kissing her shoulder blade, he replied, "I have no intentions of letting you go out of this room."
"Sadly, you have to, Mr. Reign," Evelyn replied with a smile. Turning around, she wrapped her arms around his neck, both looking into each other’s in all smiles.
"Then let me try changing your mind, Mrs. Reign." Zevian’s words made her blush harder, his grip on her waist tightening.
Evelyn’s eyes fluttered shut as Zevian leaned closer, her lips brushing against hers. He kissed her tenderly, unhurriedly, making her yearn for more. Her breath hitched as he nipped at her lower lip, his teeth grazing the soft flesh before soothing it with his tongue. A moan escaped her lips, and she felt his smirk against her mouth, clearly enjoying teasing her.
Zevian’s hand cradled her face, his thumb brushing her cheek, sending shivers down her spine. Zevian moved his other hand from her waist to her nape, tilting her head for better access. And Evelyn tightened her around his neck, pulling him closer until their bodies collided into one.
Another moan escaped her mouth as he bit her lower lip, his tongue entering her mouth. It brushed against hers, coaxing her to follow his lead. Evelyn’s fingers tangled in his hair, tugging gently, eliciting a low growl from Zevian that made her knees weak. His hand on her nape tightened, pulling her so close that she could feel his bulge, the heat of his body burning her with desire.
Oh goodness! They would be running late if they continued. Evelyn thought but she couldn’t bring herself to stop him, completely intoxicated under his spell.
Just then, a small, sweet voice broke through their trance.
"Mommy! Daddy!"
Evelyn froze, her eyes snapping open. Her cheeks turned crimson and she patted her husband’s chest, warning him to stop. Zevian pulled back reluctantly, his lips twitching into a scowl as he looked toward the door.
Standing there in her bunny pajamas, Kiana, her wide, curious eyes fixed on her parents, clutched her favorite rabbit plushie tightly.
"Oh, I am sorry!" The little girl murmured as she stopped by the door, realizing her parents were busy making out.
In the last month, Kiana has undergone many changes. She would throw tantrums but quickly apologize whenever she was wrong. She still hated studying but would complete all her homework and avoid making excuses to go to school. More importantly, she had come to accept that Zevian deserved to spend equal time with her mommy, and she shouldn’t fight over it. They both loved her a lot but needed their own time too.
Evelyn could see these changes only because of Gracia. Her mother had helped a lot in parenting Kiana, and it had brought a lot of peace between Zevian and Kiana too. While they still occasionally fought for attention, they didn’t start fights as often and would still get jealous from time to time.
"Baby!" Evelyn called out, making Kiana turn around. "Come here," she called warmly as Kiana slowly turned, opening her eyes she had closed with her hand.
Zevian wiped his lips with his thumb, Evelyn’s lipstick stains tingeing them slightly bold. He looked at the little girl who ran and hugged Evelyn, who had squatted down for her. They looked at each other intently before Kiana snuggled into her mother’s arms.
"I heard from Avy that you were going to fight your stepmother?" Kiana slowly spoke, her words making Evelyn nod with a smile.
As much as Kiana had started respecting her parents, she had gotten too easy with Avery, both quarreling like best friends. Somewhere, Avery was also being a bad influence, teaching Kiana words like make out and other things that slightly worried Evelyn.
"Are your Cinderella shoes ready?" Kiana asked in all seriousness, making Evelyn laugh out loud. Yes, her love for fairy tales had only gotten bigger, with Gracia narrating them to her most nights at bedtime.
"Yes, they are," Evelyn replied, pointing at the silver heels that would go with her dress. Kiana walked over and observed the heels carefully, touching the pearls on them with a bright smile.
"Yay!!" Kiana clapped her hands, a grin brightening her face. Taking one of the heels, she walked over to her daddy and lifted it. "Now, put it on Mommy! She will be late for the battle party."
Evelyn looked at her daughter and shook her head. She had also turned into a little writer, modifying stories to her liking and using them in real life.
Zevian, with a smirk, took the heel and nodded. He then turned to his wife, who was equally stunned by their daughter’s wish. Walking over, she sat on the chair in front of the dressing table.
Zevian, like a prince, kneeled in front of her. Lifting her dress, he took her ankle in his hand and slowly helped her wear the heel. Kiana quickly brought the other heel, and he slid it onto Evelyn’s other foot. Evelyn laughed at the silly recreation of the Cinderella story.
"Yes! Now you are all ready!" Kiana murmured with a serious face, making her parents smile. Turning to her daddy, she added, "Make sure you don’t leave Mommy alone. If that witch is too strong, you need to step up and help Mommy."
"As you wish, Princess," Zevian replied, bowing his head. Kiana giggled and walked over, kissing his cheek. Turning to her mother, she pecked her too before wishing them good night. "Good night! I will see you in the morning~"
As they nodded, she quickly ran out, knowing her nanny would be frantically searching for her since she had escaped from her room.
Once alone, Zevian took out his hand, "Shall we, Your Highness?" With a chuckle, Evelyn nodded and accepted it. He kissed it softly, causing a shiver to run down her spine.
"You will win tonight," he declared confidently, and she nodded in response. They were going to win and end this battle once and for all!
Evelyn walked to Gracia’s room while Zevian walked downstairs to join his father sitting alone in the hall. She walked inside to find Rosalind and Avery already present.
Avery had worn a black dress exactly like hers. Rosalind, in contrast, was dressed in a simple yet elegant lavender gown adorned with subtle silver embroidery. Meanwhile, Gracia stood out among them. Her dress was a graceful, knee-length burgundy gown, with elegant lace sleeves and a delicate pearl necklace that added a touch of sophistication.
"Mom!" Evelyn called out, and the ladies turned around. Gracia, who was sitting on the chair, smiled warmly, admiring her daughter’s beauty.
"Oh, oh! Someone seems to have had fun before the party," Avery teased, walking over to her friend. Raising her fingers, she wiped the slight smudge of Evelyn’s rosy lip shade, making her blush.
Rosalind and Gracia exchanged glances and chuckled, enjoying Evelyn’s reaction. They had been teasing the poor thing a lot, but it was fun at the same time.
Evelyn, with a huff, swatted away Avery’s hand. Sticking out her tongue, she quickly moved over, making Avery chuckle out loud. They walked to Gracia, who turned around to face the dressing mirror again.
"You look beautiful, Mom. Just like you did before," Evelyn murmured with a smile. They had done everything so Gracia could recover physically. She had gained a little weight, looking strong and equally beautiful.
Avery had done the makeup perfectly, giving her an intimidating yet goddess-like vibe. Her hair had grown a little longer, up to her shoulders, but they still preferred to go with a wig, making her look as though she had just returned from the past, like a phoenix rising from its ashes, more strong and graceful.
Gracia nodded, feeling her heart thudding loudly. She hadn’t been in a crowd for more than decades, locked alone in a room. Though they all would be around, she still couldn’t help but feel anxious.
Evelyn placed her hands on her shoulders and murmured, "Don’t worry, you will do great. Just forget everything around and be yourself."
Gracia nodded with a nervous smile. Avery tried to lighten the mood with a joke, making Gracia feel a little better.
Just then, Evelyn’s phone vibrated in her clutch, and Avery took it out before passing it to her. Evelyn unlocked it, and her smile faltered at the message. It was from Elias.
"Are you coming tonight?"
"Huh, he is so eager to dig his own grave," Avery, who had looked at the message, sneered out loud.
Evelyn took a deep breath and replied, "Yes."
"Good," Elias replied almost immediately as if waiting for her response.
Gracia’s anxiety hit again, making her tremble lightly. Avery took the warm fur coat and draped it on her shoulder, which matched her wine-red dress perfectly.
Evelyn moved closer and took out her hand, "Shall we?"
Gracia chuckled softly and accepted her hand with a nod.
"Yes! Let’s go ruin that damned bitch!" Avery cursed out loud, and the ladies nodded determinedly. Evelyn’s heart raced with excitement. Tonight, Sophia Wright’s sweet world she had built using her would crumble, and no one was going to stop it.
