Chapter 142: Missed Me?
The next morning, Zevian woke up to the sharp rays filtering in from the balcony. The sun had risen high enough to stream through the white curtains, and it was getting hotter. Taking the remote, he increased the AC before turning to his beautiful wife, soundly sleeping beside him.
A charming smile lifted his grumpy morning face, his eyes glinting under the daylight. She was resting on his arm, her hand lazily placed on his stomach as if afraid he would disappear or wake up and realize that whatever had happened last night was just a dream. Tucking back a few strands obstructing her face, he rested his head on his fist and enjoyed the lovely view.
Evelyn’s dark brown hair cascaded over the pillow, messy from all the tossing and turning she did in her sleep. Her long lashes rested softly against her cheeks, which were soft and pale, unlike the bright red they’d been last night. Her nose was slightly bridged, leading down to her sweet, supple lips, which were slightly parted due to her light snores.
Zevian’s smile brightened, and he couldn’t help but bend down to steal a kiss. He pecked her lips gently, stirring her awake as she clung to him tightly.
Evelyn groaned when she felt Zevian trying to free himself. Pulling him closer, she snuggled against his chest and murmured, "Let’s sleep for a while."
Zevian smiled and kissed the top of her head. Playing with her hair, he replied, "It’s already past ten, Eva."
Evelyn slowly opened her eyes and looked up at him with a "so what?" expression. No one was going to wake up today since she’d given everyone a day off. But then she realized she hadn’t told him yet. "I told them to rest today," she said, before closing her eyes and pulling him closer.
"Ah, you should have told me last night," Zevian teased, his voice slightly disappointed. "I wouldn’t have held back."
Evelyn squinted in confusion. Realizing what he meant, she looked up and glared at him with a pout. "I can barely even lift a finger, Mr. Reign," she grumbled, feeling the dull ache all over her body.
Zevian laughed at her whining. Kissing the tip of her nose, he replied, "Sleep a little while longer then. I’ll go make breakfast." When Evelyn didn’t look ready to let go, he added with a small sigh, "I need to head back by tomorrow morning at all costs."
Evelyn looked up and pouted. As much as she wanted him to stay longer, she couldn’t pester him—her husband had an empire to manage. They couldn’t spend what little time they had left just lying here. She wanted to go out with him on a date, too.
"Alright. Wake me up later," Evelyn replied, slowly retracting her hand. Until he got ready and prepared breakfast, she decided to sleep.
Zevian nodded with a smile. Giving her a light peck on the forehead, he got out of bed. Evelyn smiled, and once he entered the bathroom, she hugged the blanket and closed her eyes.
After almost an hour of deep slumber, Evelyn slowly woke up and stretched her arms. She sat up on the bed and rubbed her eyes, the rays from the balcony warming her skin. A faint blush crept onto her cheeks as she recalled last night and realized her husband was here! The man she had been missing was actually here, not just in her dreams.
A squeal of joy left her lips, and Evelyn quickly got out of bed. Rushing to the bathroom, she decided to get ready and maybe go on a date with him. This city had so many places they could visit; a day probably wouldn’t be enough, but she didn’t want to waste even a minute of the time they had left together.
Wearing blue wide-leg jeans and a floral top, Evelyn tied her hair into a messy bun. Prepping her skin and applying light makeup, she smiled at her reflection before walking out of the room.
As Evelyn neared the kitchen area, she saw her staff standing in the corridor, peeking toward the counter. Walking closer, she followed their gazes and saw Zevian cooking for her. He had dressed casually, pairing a simple white shirt with black trousers. But the way he had rolled up his sleeves, with the apron loosely hanging around his waist, made him look even more charming and handsome.
"He looks straight out of a magazine cover!" one of her female staff commented, barely able to contain her excitement. The other female staff member agreed with a grin, prompting scowls from the male members, who also observed the handsome chef.
Lucy, who had commented earlier and was also dating one of the male staff, Andrew, turned to him and scolded, "Learn from our boss’s husband. Look! He even cooks for her!"
"Yes! He’s perfect in every way!" Soniya agreed, forming a chef’s kiss with her hand.
Evelyn couldn’t help but smile. "I agree," she commented, startling the poor staff with her voice.
They all straightened their backs and turned to see her standing a meter away. Lucy and Soniya caught red-handed drooling over their madam’s husband, lowered their gazes, nudging each other to greet her.
Evelyn, crossing her arms, peeked at her husband again and grinned. "He is perfect in all aspects."
"Ma’am!" Rita’s cheerful voice greeted them. Quickly changing into her slippers, her bodyguard rushed over and grinned. "You’re up so early!"
"It’s past eleven, Rita," Lucy grumbled, having no idea what Rita meant, but the latter only stuck her tongue out at her. Rita had been quite engertic and lively that she had become friends with everyone in just a week.
"Oh, Sir is awake too!" Rita murmured, sneaking a glance at the kitchen as she caught a delicious smell. "But I bought you all breakfast." She complained, lifting the bags in her hand.
"Oh, let’s have it during our trip!" Lucy suggested, quickly moving to Rita’s side. Soniya nodded with a smile, ready to leave and give the couple some privacy. When the male staff stood in their spots, confused, Soniya quickly pushed them toward the entrance.
"We have lots of sightseeing! Come on! Let’s hurry!" Soniya declared. Smiling at her boss, the ladies quickly ushered the men out.
Evelyn shook her head at their goofiness. With a smile, she turned and walked toward the kitchen. "Good morning," she greeted, causing Zevian to look up.
A smile spread on his face, and turning off the stove, he took off the apron and walked to her. A blush spread across Evelyn’s face as he wrapped his hands around her, pulling her into his embrace. Stealing a morning kiss, Zevian replied, "Morning."
Just then, someone seemed to grumble at the entrance, and they turned to see Rita trying to stop Ronan from entering the house. Zevian smiled at the sight and murmured, "Let’s go greet our guest."
Evelyn chuckled and nodded at him. They both walked to the hall, and Ronan’s brows furrowed as he saw Zevian. What the heck was he doing here?
"Hi, Ronan!" Zevian greeted, his arm wrapped around Evelyn’s waist. Pulling her closer, he asked the mafia prince, "Missed me?"
