Chapter 135: A Familiar Face

"The chef will start working from tomorrow, but if you’re hungry, I can cook something real!" Rita continued, giving a small tour around the villa.

"No, thank you," Evelyn replied with a small smile, observing the details of her home for the next few weeks.

The ground floor of the villa exuded elegance and warmth, with its open-concept layout featuring a spacious living area, modern furniture, and colorful art on the walls. Large, expansive glass windows showcased glimpses of the beautiful night sky, bringing peace into the area. Polished hardwood floors added a touch of sophistication, while strategically placed indoor plants added a hint of nature indoors, creating everything that could make her feel at home.

There was an adjacent kitchen that caught Evelyn’s attention. It was decorated with bold, sleek colors, highlighted by state-of-the-art appliances and a large island, perfect for both cooking and social gatherings. A rectangular dining table stood nearby, large enough to seat at least ten guests.

"This way, ma’am. Your room was originally upstairs, but Master ordered it to be moved downstairs so you wouldn’t be too exhausted to climb upstairs." Rita added, making sure to share all she’d overheard the designers discuss that morning. The villa was secretly guarded by men outside, and with her there to protect Evelyn, it didn’t matter on which floor she stayed.

Evelyn smiled at Rita’s words. The more she praised Zevian, the more Evelyn missed him.

As Evelyn followed Rita down the hallway, they passed a few rooms she believed were arranged for AWE staff before stopping at the end of the corridor. Rita, with a smile, opened the door to Evelyn’s master bedroom.

Evelyn was amazed at how the room mirrored her own back in Vespera City. Large windows framed the moonlit balcony, a space where she’d enjoyed warm coffees and laughter with her darling husband. A large king-sized bed with plush bedding sat on a small dais, where she would read Kiana fairy tales and put her to sleep.

There was a medium-sized couch in one corner, a dressing table at the other end, a luxurious en-suite bathroom, and a spacious walk-in closet. Everything felt like her own home, and a smile spread across her lips when she noticed their photos placed on the nightstand. She walked closer and picked one up, a chuckle replacing her earlier smile. It was a picture taken at AWE’s party, and she realized Avery must have also played a part in this surprise.

"Good night, ma’am," Rita greeted her, pulling Evelyn from her thoughts. "If you need anything else, you can call me. I’ll be staying at the workers’ quarters nearby."

"Thank you! Rest well." Evelyn replied with a small smile. Rita left with a grin, her infectious energy already making Evelyn feel relaxed. It would be nice to have someone around who would constantly praise her husband.

Taking her suitcase to the closet, Evelyn quickly pulled out a pair of pajamas and decided to take a shower. Once done, she walked over and dialed Zevian’s number.

A pout graced her lips as it went to voicemail. "He must be in a meeting," she murmured before dialing Avery. Even her friend didn’t pick up and instead texted that she’d get back soon. It felt like they couldn’t find a good time to chat because of the time difference; when she was busy, they were free and vice versa.

A sigh escaped her lips as she slumped back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Luckily, a few minutes later, Zevian FaceTimed her, and she quickly picked up.

"Are you busy?" Evelyn asked, her face lighting up with a smile when she saw him in his office. With glasses on, he looked even more handsome, and seeing him work would now be part of her night routine.

Zevian shook his head, though he was in the middle of an important meeting. His staff members in front of him gasped at his lie. Brandon handed him his phone, saying it was his wife, and their boss, usually never one for breaks, asked to take one. They each silently blessed Evelyn, thinking she must be an angel.

"You should close the balcony. The weather’s chillier than here," Zevian suggested, knowing she liked to keep it open sometimes. She was prone to catching colds, and they usually lingered stubbornly for almost a week, even with medicine.

Evelyn turned onto her side and looked at him. "Why don’t you come and close it for me?" she asked with a pout. "And also keep your promise..." she murmured under her breath, making Zevian smile.

"What promise are we talking about here?" he teased, leaning back in his chair.

Evelyn’s brows furrowed at his question, wondering if he’d forgotten already. She wanted to chat for a few more minutes, but sensing he must be busy and feeling sleepy herself, she decided to end the call.

"I’ll call in the morning," Evelyn murmured, a yawn escaping her mouth. But before she could hang up, Zevian stopped her.

"Leave it on," he ordered, conveying that he would watch her sleep. Brandon was surprised by the request but quickly got him a phone stand when Zevian glanced back at him.

Evelyn smiled at his request and nodded. "Okay!" Placing the phone near the nightstand, she added, "Goodnight," before slowly drifting off to sleep.

Zevian resumed the meeting, his eyes glancing at his phone from time to time. The staff tried to concentrate but couldn’t ignore the small smile that graced their boss’s face now and then. Ever since Evelyn had come into his life, he had changed, and it was a welcome change for them as well. They could finally work in peace when he was happy.

The next day, Evelyn woke up early and got ready to visit Igor Mansion. Benjamin and his wife, Margaret, had invited her for breakfast, and she couldn’t decline. Rita accompanied her, as was her duty, and they entered the mansion together.

"Gracie, my darling!" Benjamin’s voice welcomed her. She exchanged air kisses with him before hugging Margaret.

"It’s already late; let’s talk after breakfast," Margaret suggested, checking the clock as it ticked past nine. Ronan joined them from upstairs, and they all made their way toward the dining room, with Rita closely following behind.

As they walked down the corridor, Evelyn noticed a large portrait of Ronan’s mother. Benjamin and Margaret continued chatting, and she nodded along, but her attention was fixed on the portrait. As they approached it, her eyes subtly squinted in surprise—the woman looked oddly familiar. Although she’d seen her a few times in the past, this time, something struck her as unmistakably familiar.

"Annabelle!" The name clicked in her mind, and her eyes widened in horror. This woman looked exactly like Annabelle. Were they related? Could Laila and Ronan be siblings? She thought, glancing at Ronan, who seemed to have noticed her expression, watching her with an unreadable gaze.
