Chapter 128: A Perfect Ending

Chapter 128: A Perfect Ending

Evelyn felt heat rush to her cheeks at his words, his gaze causing butterflies to flutter in her stomach. They had been so busy and caught up over the past few weeks that she hadn’t seen this side of her darling husband, one that was reserved solely for her for the rest of their lives.

She missed their teasing battles, catching each other off guard, which made her feel giddy like a high school girl walking with her crush for the first time.

The workers quickly followed Zevian’s orders and brought Dazzle again. The black horse looked majestic, ready for another ride as it neighed excitedly under Zevian’s caress.

"She’s missed you so much," one of the workers commented, most of them happy to see their young master back, just like Dazzle. Zevian used to visit the farm often to relax and de-stress from his busy life. But after Katherine’s death, he stopped horse riding, even when he visited with Rosalind.

Evelyn, who had been all smiles until then, suddenly frowned at the middle-aged man’s words. She had been so caught up in looking after Kiana that she failed to notice Dazzle was a female horse. Her eyes squinted as she observed how the horse responded to Zevian’s pats, his warm smile, and attention keeping her happy.

"How long has she been here?" Evelyn asked.

"Dazzle is the young master’s first horse, Madam," the stable head replied with a smile. Turning to Dazzle and Zevian, he added, "Elder Master brought her when he was fifteen, and they share quite a strong bond. Dazzle doesn’t let anyone else near her except him."

Gritting her teeth, Evelyn forced out a smile at the man. She couldn’t stop herself from glaring slightly at the horse, something Zevian noticed from afar.

With a smile, he walked over, letting the stable head take Dazzle away to prepare for their ride. Evelyn watched the horse until it disappeared from sight. Zevian, now standing beside her, asked with an amused smile, "Are you jealous?"

Evelyn subconsciously nodded, her eyes still following Dazzle out of the stable. Zevian chuckled, which snapped her out of her thoughts. She immediately refuted, "No! Why would I be jealous? That’s absurd."

Yes, it was absurd! Evelyn cursed herself inwardly, her cheeks flushing as Zevian laughed again. He already got the answer he wanted, and she huffed slightly, following him outside, prepared for a few more such teasing exchanges on their way.

Once Dazzle was ready with the saddle, Evelyn was surprised to see no other horse, like Daisy, following behind. She had assumed they would ride separate horses, but it seemed Zevian had other plans.

He walked over to her and asked her to climb first. "Hop on."

Evelyn looked at him in surprise before following his request. Just as the stable head had mentioned, Dazzle didn’t like anyone else sitting on her. The horse neighed, but Zevian was quick to calm her down, his gentle pats making Dazzle grumble before she settled.

Evelyn felt her body stiffen when Zevian mounted the horse too, his body now pressed close to hers. He took the reins from her hands, causing a spark of electricity to pass between them. God dammit! Why couldn’t her body ever get accustomed to his touch and start acting normally?! She cursed inwardly, certain that Zevian was enjoying her reaction.

"Can she manage?" Evelyn murmured, worried their combined weight might be too much for Dazzle. "I don’t mind riding Daisy! She seems to like me," she added, turning around with a grin aimed at her devilishly handsome husband.

"Don’t worry, she’s strong enough to handle us both," Zevian replied, his warm breath grazing Evelyn’s back. "And we’re not going far," he added, leaning back slightly to give her some relief.

Evelyn wobbled as Dazzle started to trot slowly, momentarily lost in thought. Zevian moved forward to steady her, his chest pressing against her back as he took hold of the reins.

"Stick closer! You don’t want to tumble off, do you?" Zevian murmured, a smirk on his face.

As if that wasn’t enough, Evelyn felt him lean even closer, his face hovering near her shoulder as Dazzle increased her pace. And why weren’t their jeans thick enough to provide a decent barrier between their thighs? Evelyn silently cried. Their upper legs were almost pressed together, and she could feel the heat radiating from him. It felt like he was shamelessly seducing her, without mercy!

Seeing her lack of focus, Zevian decided to end his playful torment. "Relax and enjoy the ride. It’s rare for Dazzle to let anyone ride her," he said, retracting slightly. Though their legs remained pressed against each other, Evelyn still felt a wave of relief wash over her.

"I won’t let this slide so easily, Mr. Reign," Evelyn grumbled, turning her head to glare at him.

Zevian glanced at her, his face breaking into a small smile. Their faces were so close that if she moved even a little, their lips might meet in a kiss. "And I’m eager to see what you will do, Mrs. Reign," he replied, breaking their eye contact to focus on the path.

Evelyn huffed at his confidence before turning around and concentrating on the ride. As she grew accustomed to Dazzle’s rhythm, she found herself enjoying the moment more. The further they rode down the narrow path, the larger the trees around them became, the air turning cold yet peaceful.

She closed her eyes and leaned back, resting against Zevian. After a few seconds, she chuckled. "It feels like we’re in medieval times." Except for their outfits, the path, the atmosphere, everything felt fitting.

"Ride faster," Evelyn demanded, wanting to feel the thrill of running away with her lover on horseback.

"At your service, Your Highness," Zevian joked, causing Evelyn to laugh out loud. "Hold on tight," he said before racing Dazzle through the narrow road.

They stopped at the top of a small cliff, the sun ready to set beneath the beautiful orange sky, as if it had been waiting for them.

"Wow!" Evelyn gasped, her eyes widening at the sight before her. Below the cliff, hundreds of trees stretched as far as she could see, merging with the distant sky to create a picturesque view.

Zevian dismounted and held out his hand. Evelyn smiled as she took it, a blush creeping across her cheeks as he helped her down, his hands firm around her waist. She adjusted her top quickly before moving closer to the cliff’s edge, with Zevian right behind her.

They both stood there, smiles on their faces, watching as the sun slowly dipped below the horizon. Evelyn clung to Zevian’s arm and rested her head on his shoulder, savoring the moment, the special memory with just the two of them.

"It’s beautiful, isn’t it?" Evelyn asked, her eyes never leaving the sky. "This feels like the perfect ending to our date!" she added with a grin. Zevian knew how much she loved sunsets, but she loved them even more when they watched them together.

Zevian’s eyes glistened with mischief at her words. He gently released her hand and placed his arm around her waist, pulling her closer. Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat, her eyes widening as they met his.

"There’s a better way to end it," Zevian replied, his dark gaze making Evelyn’s heart race again.

"Really?" Evelyn decided to play along. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she tiptoed and placed a small peck on his lips. Blushing, she stepped back. "Like this?"

Zevian’s smile widened at her little gift. His grip around her waist tightened, pulling her even closer, causing her breath to hitch. "Let me show you how," he said, his husky voice sending heat rushing through Evelyn’s body.

As he leaned closer, Evelyn closed her eyes and surrendered to the moment. A spark ran through her as his lips met hers in a warm kiss. Her hands tightened around his neck as he kissed her passionately, teasing her just enough before completely ravishing her.

But before they could continue, Evelyn’s phone rang. They ignored it, but when it rang again and again, Zevian groaned and pulled back. "Pick it up!" he grumbled, all set to kill the caller later.

Evelyn’s cheeks flushed in embarrassment, and she nodded. Taking out her phone, she rolled her eyes when she saw Avery’s name. Zevian, who hadn’t let go of her, also saw his cousin’s picture, his expression darkening. She wouldn’t see the sunrise tomorrow!

Evelyn answered the call, putting it on speaker. "What is it?" she asked, her annoyance clear.

"Evy!!!! You need to come here right now!" Avery screamed from the other end, her frantic voice making Evelyn frown.

"What’s wrong?" Evelyn asked, exchanging a glance with Zevian, who was equally confused.

"Ronan! His grandfather wants to see you right now," Avery replied, her words confusing them even more. "No, he actually wants you to fly to him! Right now, with Ronan!" she added, much to Zevian’s frustration.
