Chapter 91: The Granddaughter

At the Lopez ancestral home...

That evening, Cassie decided to cook a healthy food her grandparents. She prepared Salmon with roasted red pepper quinoa salad. She only gave the recipe and it was still the chef who did the cooking. But of course they didn’t need to know that. She plated the meal beautifully.

"Grandpa, Grandma, I prepared dinner. This is very healthy." She said placing the plate in front of them. The dining table was very big and yet there were only the three of them. She was buttering up her grandparents.

His grandpa and grandma were grinning from ear to ear.

"This is delicious Cassie. I didn’t know you can cook." Grandpa Lopez placed the spoon in his mouth and expressed his delight.

"This is just an easy meal Grandpa. I learned to cook in Italy as I have no one to rely there except myself." She sounded pitiful.

Grandpa Lopez looked at her guiltily.

"By the way, your Grandma and I have decided to host a welcome banquet for you next week. It is the right time everyone should know what an excellent granddaughter you are."

Cassie felt elated. The meaning was clear. Her grandparents were going to publicly acknowledge her as their granddaughter. She has been looking forward for this day and now it she was about to grasp it.

She lifted her head and her tears were falling like torrents. "Thank you so much Grandpa and Grandma."

Erik and Aryana both received an invitation from Cassie. Erik’s invitation was special. It was sent personally by Vicente Lopez himself. He was asked to be Cassie’s escort during the banquet.

He frowned. The Lees and the Lopezes have closed ties and have been business partners for generations. Rejecting the request will negatively impact the relationship between the two families.

"The Lopez patriarch asked me to escort his granddaughter during the banquet." He said still frowning.

"It is just an escort. Why are so worried?" Aryana said calmly.

"Are you not worried?" Erik raised his eyebrow. They were lying side by side on the bed.

"Why should I? It is not like you are going to get engaged with her." Aryana said matter of factly.

"I am surprised you get an invitation as well."

"She said we work in the same company and she is treating me as her friend."

Aryana opened her messenger and intended to ask Mu Feng if he can send her an evening gown.

"What are you doing asking another man for a dress in front of your husband." He snatched her cellphone from her.

"I’ll earn from it. It is part my job."

Erik narrowed his eyes. "Don’t worry about the dress. I’ll take care of it. Wait for your punishment later."

On Friday, Erik asked Ariel to come to his penthouse to do Aryana’s make up. He also instructed Marlon to escort Aryana to the banquet.

When Ariel opened the box that contained Aryana’s gown his eyes bulged.

"Holly Molly! Look at this dress. It is so beautiful." He pretended to cry as he flicked his finger before caressing the soft fabric.

"Erik you have good taste. How many millions did you spend for this."

Erik was silent. His phone rang and his forehead creased when he ended the call.

"I have to leave now and be at the Lopez ancestral mansion to fetch Cassie." He hesitated but decided to leave without waiting for Aryana to come out of the room.

When Aryana emerged from the room, Ariel really cried this time.

"On my gosh! You look like a goddess."

She was wearing a mermaid gown. The neckline was V shaped. Beautiful golden flowerettes climbed from the from v of her neck to her right shoulder. A lace neatly lined with golden threads was attached to the back of her left shoulder. Ariel carefully slung the lace on her bare arm creating a dramatic effect.

From under her chest, the fabric were neatly tucked in small pleats that perfectly outlined the curve of her body and gave her freedom of movement. The fabric cascaded down her legs into a beautiful mermaid’s tail.

The dress were decked with crystals and so Aryana opted not to wear any jewelry at all.

Ariel just let her hair down and darkened her make up a little bit. He smiled and snapped a photo of Aryana before posting in his moments.

Marlon arrived early. He let out a whistle. Aryana indeed looked like a Goddess in her dress. They arrived at the hotel at the same time as Franco and Julia did.

Aryana was surprised to see that Julia was Franco’s date tonight. She looked elegant in her black evening gown.

Julia did not recognize Aryana at first. She frowned and said in her usual arrogant voice. "I’m surprised to see you here Aryana Jones. Are you sure you are in the correct venue?"

Franco glared at Julia but she ignored him.

"I got an invitation from Cassie." She casually took out her invitation.

Since Marlon was Aryana’s escort for the night she shared the table with him, Franco, Alex and the friends of Cassie.

"Where did you get your dress Aryana? Isn’t that too flashy for the occasion?" Karla scanned her from head to toe. Deep inside she felt envious because Aryana really looked lovely tonight.

"It’s a gift from someone." Aryana replied.

"That must be pretty expensive. Look at the crystals. There are too many of them. But looks like they are fake." Rhia was trying to humiliate her. Aryana just smiled at her.

A distinguish looking gentlemen were heading towards their direction.

"Oh, my gosh, isn’t that Clark Ham, CEO of Galaxy Entertainment? He is looking at me and heading this way." Marriane exclaimed bashfully.

Clark Ham went past Marriane and stood in front of Aryana. He saw Marlon escort Aryana earlier so he addesssed him.

"Can I invite her to join our table? She is our signed artist but didn’t have a chance to welcome her personally."

Marlon looked at Franco for help but he ignored him.

’Erik will kill me.’ He silently cursed. But how can he say no?

"Sure." Marlon said reluctantly.

Marriane lowered her head in embarrassment. ’Damn vixen." She cursed.

Clark extended his hand to Aryana which she accepted. He lead her to his table. The duo were unmindful of the stares that were thrown at Aryana’s back as she gracefully walked towards the table at the middle of the banquet hall.
