Chapter 223: The Man In The Ward

Erik felt that his heart was about to burst with anticipation. Aryana finally remembered him! He had waited for this for a long time and he can barely contain his excitement. That look in her eyes reminded him of how she would look at him after they were done making love.

However, Erik’s happiness was short-lived. Aryana closed her eyes and went back to sleep. Erik wanted to hug her tight and kiss her deeply but he restrained himself. He did not want to disturb Amaya’s sleep. He sat on the chair beside her bedside and studied her face for a long time. Her long dark eyelashes cast a shadow on the cheek below her eyes. Her face has become rounder and her nose seemed to have grown bigger. His gaze landed on their interlocked fingers. He could not remember when Aryana grabbed his hand but he felt a warmth of comfort spread from his hand and enveloped his entire being.

He remembered the countless lonely nights he spent after she went missing. At some point in time, he almost accepted the fact that indeed she died and he thought that he went crazy. A month after, she went missing, he visited Robert’s grave in Greenheights and bared his tormented soul in front of his tombstone. He hated himself for he was not able to protect Aryana. He begged Robert to forgive him for his carelessness.

But Aryana was very alive. He could smell her sweet scent. He moved his face close to her face and landed a gentle kiss on her forehead. He could feel the warmth of her breath on his face.

Aryana stirred. Erik straightened his back and waited and waited for her to wake up. To his disappointment, Aryana continued to sleep deeply. In the end, he fell asleep. His head was on the edge of the bed and he was using his arms as pillows.

Aryana woke up at dawn. She remembered that she dreamt about the father of her child. He was watching over her at the hospital bed and he was gently stroking her belly when the baby kicked. He laughed heartily. Aryana tried to look at his face but unfortunately, it was blurry. It seemed like a there was a hazy fog that covered his face and Aryana could not see clearly.

She looked toward her left and she froze when she saw that there was a man sitting on the chair and his head was on the edge of the bed. His hair even touched the side of Arayna’s belly.

She relaxed when she recognized him as Ken, her bodyguard, and nurse that her grandfather hired for him.

Aryana tapped his head gently. He looked uncomfortable in the chair.

"Ken.."

"Ken.."

"Ken.."

Aryana called three times before Erik was finally awakened. He was in a daze as he looked at Aryana. He wore a doting look in his eyes which scared Aryana.

"Umm... Ken, you can transfer to the couch so you can sleep comfortably." Aryana said in a concerned voice.

Erik was disappointed. She did not recognize him. She must have been dreaming last night.

Ken reluctantly stood up and moved to the couch. He did not want to lie down but he did not want Aryana to worry so he obeyed her like a child would when his father’s voice was raised.

"You were moaning earlier. I thought you were having a nightmare so I came to your side."

"I wasn’t having a nightmare. I dreamt about the father of my baby. He came and was watching over me, but it was just a dream." Aryana said in a sad tone.

’No, It wasn’t a dream Yana. I am here for you and watching you all the time.’ Erik muttered in his heart.

"Go back to sleep, Madam Mu. It is still dark outside." He said gently.

"Nanny Wan, did not come?" Aryana asked. While she was comfortable with Ken, she still thought that it was not proper for him to stay inside the ward when there was no one around.

Erik seemed to have guessed what was on her mind. "I can stay outside if you are not comfortable."

"Never mind. Since you are already here, then you can continue to stay inside. You go to sleep as well."

"Hmm." Erik nodded He lie down on the couch which was a bit small for him. "Sleep well Madam," Erik said gently, then he closed his eyes and pretended to go to sleep.

The following morning, Ken bought breakfast for Aryana. The breakfast at the hospital was not enough for her. She was still hungry even after she finished everything.

Ken, who noticed her predicament went out and asked the bodyguard who was secretly watching him buy breakfast from a nearby restaurant.

The guard was very efficient. He came back after fifteen minutes with a paper bag from a Michelin restaurant. Of course, he did not want to be away from the person he was supposed to guard.

"Boss, here is the famous breakfast set from Mitchell’s Kitchen. The Chef said that this is very healthy and suitable for pregnant women."

Erik took the paper bag and went back to the ward. He set up the over-bed table and arranged the food on top of them. Then he realized that because of Aryana’s bulging stomach, it was not convenient for her to eat using the over-bed table.

Erik helped Aryana to sit on the edge of the bed. He then pulled a small table and placed the food on top of them.

Aryana gasped.

Erik was worried.

"Are you alright?" Erik asked in a concerned voice.

"I am fine. Don’t worry..." Before Aryana can finish her words, she gasped and then she laughed.

"The baby is very active. She kept on kicking me." She said matter-of-factly. "But why do I feel there is another of pair legs kicking me?"

"Maybe, that’s the baby elbows." Erik shared his thought.

Aryana seemed to relax. She has a gut feeling that there are two babies inside of her womb. However, the ultrasound only detected one baby. The ultrasound cannot be wrong, right?"
