A pleasant male voice coming from the speaker filled the air. The scene playing in Erik’s mind vanished into thin air and he was brought back to where he was ... the VIP room of Midnight Club in Central District with his best friends.

Their room was on the second floor and has an unobstructed view of the stage below if the thick curtains were drawn. Speakers were installed in the room so guests have the option to listen to or block off sounds coming from the stage.

All four men glanced at the stage where a handsome man was standing beside the beautiful singer who was sitting on a tall chair with her right leg overlapping her left and her right hand holding the microphone. The duo was no other than Gary Shaw and the famous diva, Zha Zha singing the classic duet "One Sweet Day!"

"Sorry, I never to told you, all I wanted to say yaaa ye ... Now, it’s too late to hold you, ’cause you’ve flown away, so far away yeyyy." Gary’s voice was soulful. It mirrored how Erik felt about his Aryana.

Erik’s hand holding the glass froze mid-air and he felt as if a thousand knives were cutting through his heart turning it into tiny shreds.

"Never, had I imagined, living without your smile. Darling, I never showed you, assumed you’d always be there. I, I took your presence for granted, but I always cared, and I missed the love we shared."

"Ahem... ahem." Alex cleared his throat. "Maybe we should turn off the speaker?" He asked tentatively. He studied Erik’s countenance and he knew that the music must be torturing him.

"I think you are right. I don’t like this kind of music actually." Marlon stood up to turn off the speaker but Erik glanced at him fiercely.

"We can ask the singers to sing another song. This song is really bringing me sad memories of my grandparent’s passing.’ Franco tried to lighten the atmosphere by cracking a light joke.

Erik however seemed to not hear him and was lost in his own world. He sighed and downed the wine in his glass.

And so, they continued to listen to the duet while drinking in silence.

"Feeling and knowing you hear me, It keeps me alive... alive!"

Erik looked at the female singer on the stage. In his drunken state, it seemed to him that she was looking into his soul and sending him a message of hope.

"And I know you’re shining down on me from heaven, like so many friends we’ve lost along the way. And I know eventually, we’ll be together, together, one sweet day aaay ye"

He had a sudden feeling that his wife did not die and they will be together one sweet day.

"Sorry, I never told you, all I wanted to say."

The song faded into silence. Despite the melancholy air, a loud applause was heard on the ground floor.

"I’m sorry I broke my promise to you. I failed to protect you." Erik twisted the wedding ring on his finger. He closed his eyes, as a tear drop escaped from the corner of each of them. He raised his glass to no one in particular.

"All I wanted to say is I love you so much, my dear wife. I have never spoken these words to you but I know that you know how much I love you. Happy Wedding Anniversary. Come back to me please!" He said loud enough for everyone to hear and then he passed out from drunkenness.

His three companions sat motionless for some time. In all their years together, they have never seen him so broken. He was truly in love but what a tragedy!

"I never realized that Erik has really fallen in love with Aryana. No, I never thought that he is capable of having this deep feeling of love. Bro, I lost to you. I’ll send my Ferrari to your garage tomorrow." Franco raised his glass to Marlon.

Marlon just sat there without moving. He remembered about their bet but his heart was very heavy and his face gloomy. He’d rather that Aryana was with Erik, alive and kicking than winning the bet.

Meanwhile, in a hospital in another country, the middle and the fourth finger of a young woman’s right hand were resting on the golden band on her left hand. Suddenly, she opened her eyes and blurted out a man’s name hoarsely.

The instrument attached to her body gave off a piercing alarm. A nurse in a white uniform hurried inside and after a few minutes, a middle-aged woman wearing spectacles and a white coat entered.

"Doctor Tang, the patient woke up. Are we going to inform Old Master?"

"It is already so late. Let us inform him tomorrow morning. He should be asleep at this time."

The young woman blinked her eyes but she cannot see anything. Was the light turned off or were her eyes covered? Her head was hurting and she cannot move her arms and legs. It seemed as if a heavy object was holding her down on a soft bed.

What happened to her? Why does her head ache so much? Why was her brain so fuzzy? She tried to wriggle her toes and thankfully she was able to move them. She also tried to move her fingers one by one from her thumb to her index finger and she was able to move them.

"Please turn on the light. I cannot see anything." a hoarse voice came from the woman lying on the bed. She felt that her throat was parched.

The nurse looked at the doctor. They did not understand a word she was saying.

"Hello, Miss Mu. You are in the hospital. You met an accident and were brought here." Doctor Tang spoke in a gentle voice.

The woman suddenly realized that the voice she heard was using another language but she can understand it.

"What did you call me?" The woman’s voice trembled. She asked using the same language as what she heard earlier.

The nurse smiled. She can finally understand her.

"Miss Mu. Your Chinese name is Mu Lan and your English name is Kristal Mu."

The woman on the bed pondered for a long while. She froze when she realized she cannot remember a thing.
