Chapter 128: Dinner With Clark Part 2
Aryana sent a message to Erik. She always wanted to be honest with him. She heard a lot about stories where married couples ended up hurting themselves and wasted years of painful separation because of miscommunication that resulted to misunderstanding. She did not want her marriage to end up like that.
Aryana: ’I bumped with Clark at the hospital just now. His dad was hospitalized again. He invited me to dinner. I am having dinner with him as I also need to discuss the proposal he gave me last time.’
She waited but he did not reply. He must be busy with Cassie. Aryana sighed then she put her cellphone inside her bag.
The waiter handed her the menu. She ordered the restaurant’s sushi specials, miso soup, grilled salmon and salad.
"You ordered so little. Don’t worry, this restaurant is not that expensive. It will not make me go bankrupt." Clark wore a serious expression when he made a joke.
Aryana laughed. Earlier, she put down her eyeglasses and removed her hoodie so when she laughed Clark had a clear view of her face. He saw the two dimples on her cheeks near the corner of her lips. He also saw her eyes turned green.
"Did your eyes just turned green?" Clark can’t resist and he asked.
"It must be the lighting and the angle. I have hazel eyes so it’s a combination of brown, green with specks of gold." Aryana explained.
"You have a pretty rare eyes." Clark complimented her.
Aryana blushed. She was used to hearing compliments about her looks since she was a child but still she can’t get over the fact that she felt shy every time she hears some one praise her.
"You have blue eyes too which is quite rare in this part of the world." Aryana returned the compliment.
"Your father is American?" Clark asked. He was curious to know more about the woman that his father liked so much. Instead of asking a detective, why not ask her directly?
"My father is half American and has also Spanish blood from his mother. My grandfather was an American soldier who served here during the Second World War. He fell in love with my grandma and had father but he soon left after and never came back." Aryana narrated her life story like it was someone else’s.
"Your grandma did not look for him after?"
"My grandma was poor. How can she look for him?" Aryana answered calmly.
"How about your father then? Did he not look for him?" He probed further.
"Daddy hated him for abandoning my grandmother and him."
The waiter arrived with their orders and interrupted their conversation. Aryana drank the miso soup and savored it. She started picking the sushi with her chopsticks and put them in her mouth.
"You like Japanese Cuisine?" Clark watched her as she used the chopsticks elegantly. "You are so proficient with chopsticks I’m inclined to think you use that since you are a child."
"I struggled when I was in college. To earn more, I learned Korean, Chinese and Japanese and tutored a lot of foreign students and so I learned to use chopsticks." Aryana seemed to be amused as she recalled her past experiences.
Clark looked at her in surprise. ’Didn’t Erik supported her back in college?’ He almost blurted out his thoughts aloud.
"When I look at you today, I can’t imagine that you had such difficulty back then. It doesnt show in your face and disposition at all."
"Why do I have a feeling that you have tricked me into sharing my life story to you?" Aryana eyed him curiously. She didnt know why but she feel comfortable with him.
"I didnt do anything. I just asked some random questions." Clark said. He also used the chopsticks to pick a sushi and dip it in soy sauce mixed with wasabi.
Aryana became serious.
"Clark, I have something to discuss with you that is why I accepted your invitation..."
"Is it about the proposal?" Clark cut her in. He suddenly has a bad feeling about it.
"Yes."
Clark remained silent. He was waiting for her to continue.
"The proposal is to my benefit. It looked very tempting ...". She paused and looked at Clark’s blue eyes which at the moment looked like the deep blue of the ocean. She got distracted. ’It might be the lighting.’
"I am however clear about my goals. I want to have my own business empire someday. I needed the experience. Besides, modeling is just my hobby. But I am willing to accept additional resources and can work out of town for as long as it will not impact my work." She spoke slowly and gently.
She did not realize that her voice was melodious and it sounded like music to Clark’s ears. He wanted her to go on speaking but she stopped and waited for his reaction.
"If that is your decision there is nothing I can do. But I am happy that you are willing to take in more resources and go out of town for photoshoot." Clark was not happy with Aryana’s decision but he cannot argue and just accept it.
"I have a big project that is suited for you. I’ll forward the proposal to your email and I hope you will not say no to it. The compensation is quite big that’s why I want to give it to you because Dad likes you." He needed a reason for her not to reject it and his Dad was the only reason he could think of at the moment.
"Send it to my and Amy’s email then. I’ll give you a response in two days." Aryana said. She then finished the remaining sushi in her plate.
Clark poured her a glass of white wine. "Drink this. It will help in the digestion."
Aryna took the wine and tasted it. "It is very delicious." She took another sip and she found the sip tantalized her tastes buds. She studied the liquid that has glittering yellow hue and shades of green. She smelled glass in her hand and she discovered that wine comprised several aromas of pear, orange peel, vanilla, and honey.
"What kind of wine is this. It is really delicious." She took more sips. Clark was happy that she enjoyed the wine and he liked watching her.
Aryana’s curiosity took the better of her. She reached out and grabbed the wine bottle that wa beside Clark.
"Domaine de la Romanee - Conti Montrachet!" Aryana googled it and her eyes widened. It was not the most expensive white wine but it was still that expensive.
’Rich men really don’t care about money.’ She lamented.
