Chapter 109: A Sinister Gaze

For a moment, Aryana looked troubled. There seemed to be something strange with Cassie but she cannot put a finger to it.

She looked at the blue rose lying on the table. She noticed that there was another beautifully wrapped box beside it. When she opened the gift, it was a flower vase made from porcelain. It looked expensive. She checked the card and the initial is the same letter C from the other day.

She took out the rose from the box and placed it in the vase then she brought it Camille’s table.

"It is so beautiful! It must be expensive. Are you giving this to me?" Aryana nodded and she proceeded to the pantry to make coffee for Erik.

She opened the door to Erik’s office but was met by Erik’s impatient voice.

"Didn’t I tell you I didn’t want to be disturbed?" Erik did not look at her as he was engrossed with what Cassie was showing on her tablet, while he was nibbling a cookie.

Aryana was shocked. It took her some time before she found her voice.

"I am sorry boss! I didn’t know you have a guest." She tried her best to sound professional and not show the hurt in her voice.

She hurried towards his table and put down the coffee.

Erik registered surprise to see it was Aryana. He thought she was still asleep.

"I thought it’s Camille. Do want some cookie?" Erik offered her the box. Aryana thought for a while and was about to grab the one Erik was offering when Cassie hurriedly said,

"Oh Hi Aryana, you can have another box. I brought two boxes today." She offered the unopened box to her.

"I’ll thank you then Cassie." She said giving her a half smile. She got the box from Cassie and left the room without looking at Erik.

Erik frowned as she followed her out of the room with his gaze. He noted that there was something off about Aryana but he cannot grasp what it was.

She looked lovely in her suit today. He smiled when he thought about the turtle neck cardigan she was wearing and of course he knew why she needed to wear that.

Cassie was seething inside. ’Damn that woman. She really took the cookies. That was baked specifically for Erik. How shameless can she be."

"You can continue with your presentation Cassie." Erik still has a smile on his face. Cassie thought that he was smiling at her. She was dazed for a moment before she continued with her presentation.

Aryana was hurt and angry and jealous. She took the flower vase from Camille’s table. She needed a distraction and the beautiful flower would be a good one.

"Camille, I’ll borrow this for a while. I just need to relax and this beauty should do the job."

"It is yours in the first place so don’t need to borrow that." Camille said chuckling.

No sooner has Aryana sat down on the chair and admiring the rose when Marlon approached her. He lifted the rose from the vase and smelt it.

"A pretty expensive little flower. Who sent this?" Marlon was curious.

"From someone called C." She said casually.

"C.." Marlon has a rough idea who it was.

"The boss is in a closed door meeting?" Aryana nodded. "I did not remember an important client who has a meeting with him today."

"It is Cassie. She bought his time with a box of cookies." Aryana opened the box.

Marlon’s eyes widened. ’Erik was talking to Cassie under closed door?’ Does this girl doesn’t feel a sense of crisis?’

"Here, eat this. If Cassie put a potion on this to bewitch Erik, at least both of you are bewitched."

Marlon eat the cookie. It was indeed delicious and that is Erik’s favorite.

"Actually Aryana, the reason I’m here is because we have a problem at the construction site. I want to go check it out."

"Then let’s go. You’re the project manager and I am the assistant project manager. You can just message Erik on the way."

Aryana brought the cookie with her. Marlon took his car and drove to the construction site which was an hour drive from the office.

Aryana tried the cookie. She savored it and tried to tell the ingredients. It’s just ordinary chocolate with almond and cashew chips. The cookie was delicious. She took another piece. It was addicting. Cassie must have added an addictive ingredient.

They arrived at the site at 10:30am. The construction workers were on strike. Marlon and Aryana found out that the company they subcontracted have not paid their workers for two months now. Marlon called the subcontractor and required the manager to be onsite in thirty minutes.

Marlon handed Aryana the safety hat and vest which she put on immediately. A few minutes after they arrived, Clark Ham also arrived at the site.

Both Marlon and Aryana looked at each other. Clark was surprised to find Aryana on the site.

"Why are you here Aryana? This is not a place for you unless you are here for a photoshoot."

Aryana frowned. ’Is he looking down at me because I am a woman?’

"And why can’t I be here? I’ve been here a few times already. Why are you here Clark?" She asked.

"Dad is still in the hospital so I am the acting CEO of Galaxy Engineering." He explained.

Aryana had high regard for their company. They sent their CEO while Gaeya Corp only had the project manager and the assistant project manager because the CEO was meeting his ex lover.

’Damn! What am I thinking? A jealous woman’s heart can really give birth to evil thoughts.’ Aryana sighed.

She tried to focus her attention to the restless crowd in front of her. She felt that someone was staring at her. She scanned the crowd and her gaze stopped on a man in his mid twenties. He looked disheveled and hasn’t shaven for a long time.

His piercing gaze caught Aryana by surprise. She looked back at him and held his gaze. For a fleeting moment, Aryana saw desperation in those black orbs before they turned into a hard sinister gaze.
