Chapter 104: A Love Rival
"It is alright now. You were having a nightmare." Erik caressed her hair.
Aryana snuggled into Erik’s chest and started sobbing. She felt the anguish in her heart and her spirit was downcast.
"There were four women in the alley and drunk men." Aryana started. Her voice croaked.
Erik was anxious. What did she dreamt about?
"Then a man came and beat them. I think it was you. Then one of the men pointed a knife on one of the women and you get beaten up. Someone pulled a gun and pointed at you but Daddy came and beat him up. And then he .. he .. pulled the trigger and daddy fell..." she sobbed loudly.
She recounted her dream without even pausing to breath. She was afraid that if she paused, the fleeting memory would be gone and she will not be able to catch it.
Erik almost did not undertand her. She talked too fast while sobbing. He just listened to her while he hugged and soothed her with his hands.
How did she dreamt about what happened six years ago?
Aryana fell asleep on Erik’s chest. Eirk’s shirt was drenched with her tears and snot. He gently eased her out of his chest and lay her prone on the bed.
He went to the rest room and changed before placing her back on his body.
When he woke at dawn, he felt that Aryana’s body was hot. He touched her forehead. He drew his hand back because Aryana’s forehead was very hot. He panicked. He pressed the bell at the headboard. Nothing happened. He pressed it again and this time he pressed long and hard.
A nurse appeared in the ward.
"Check her temperature. I think she felt hot." He commanded.
The nurse took her tempeature. It was 39.7. She took her pulse and found it to be slighly higher than normal.
The nurse called the doctor and Aryana was put on a drip and given an injection for the fever.
"Why did she suddenly had a fever?" Erik asked anxiously.
"I am also wondering why. When I did my rounds earlier, she was very cheerful. What happened since then?" The female doctor asked Erik.
Erik paused. "She had a nightmare and she cried." Erik told the doctor honestly.
"Looked like it is emotional stress then. She should be alright when she wake up later." The doctor checked Aryana’s vitals before leaving.
When Aryana woke up a few hours later, Erik was gone and her fever has subsided. When Maria saw that she was awake she heated the food in the microwave and placed it on the tray in the bed.
"Eat this. You haven’t had breakfast and it’s past lunch time." Maria said in a concerned voice.
Erik instructed the bodyguards not to let any visitor in. When Cassie passed by in the morning to drop another soup, the guards barred her from entering.
"I am sorry Miss. The boss instructed no visitors are allowed."
Cassie gritted her teeth.
"Then can you just pass this to her?" She passed the thermo jug to one of the bodyguards.
The bodyguard returned the jug to her.
"I am sorry Miss. We were told not to accept nor pass anything to Miss Jones. We are just following instructions."
Cassie cursed then left. She got one important information though. Aryana had a high fever last night. No matter how trivial it is, she was happy to hear that Aryana suffered.
Erik went back to the hospital in the evening. He met Clark in the corridor.
"Care for a smoke? It is just very quick."
Erik only hesitated for a moment. He followed Clark to the smoking area in the garden.
"How is your father?" Erik asked.
"He is fine. He suffered a minor stroke but okay now."
"How is Aryana?" Clark asked. He lighted a cigarette and took a puff.
"She got a fever this morning but is alright now." Erik lighted a stick but did not smoke it.
"I’d like to offer Aryana an exclusive contract." Clark regarded Erik under the three rings of smoke that he blew consecutively from his cigarette.
"You should discuss with her. Not me." Erik extinguished the cigarette on the trash bin.
"Well, you are guarding like a hen guards it’s chicks." Clark took another puff.
"Is she your woman?"
"Whether she is or not, it has nothing to do with you." Erik said coldly.
’Damn!’ Clark cursed. ’What a vague answer.’
"If there is nothing else, I’ll get going." Erik started walking back to the ward.
"You are hindering her. She has lots of potential." Clark’s voice trailed Erik as he continued walking in big strides.
’Damn it!’ Clark cussed. His biggest problem now was his father has decided he wanted to have a daughter in law and it can only be Aryana Jones. Erik was a formidable opponent. How can he win against him?
Aryana was fully awake when he came in. She was no longer on a drip and she was back to her cheerful self.
"You are back Erik." Aryana greeted him.
"How are you feeling?" Erik sat beside her on the bed. The edge of the bed dipped under his weight.
"I am fine now but I am so bored! My eyes hurt from over watching movies." She complained.
"Silly girl. You cried so hard last night that’s why your eyes are hurting now!" Erik ruffled her hair.
"Strange. I remembered I had a dream last night but no matter how much I think about it, I cannot remember what it was." Aryana mused.
"Since you cannot remember, then it is not that important." Erik was relieved.
"Didn’t I tell you about it?" Aryana asked.
"You told me something about it but you were muddle headed I did not I understand what you were saying." Erik lied. It was better for him not to tell her about her nightmare. Erik was still scared when he remembered the look of fear in Aryana’s eyes and the anguish she felt as she cried herself out.
Thankfully she has forgotten the nightmare!
