The Beautiful Boss's Personal Bodyguard -
Chapter 125
Chapter 125: Chapter 125
"Old Hu, what the hell is happening here?"
Looking at the swarm of snakes on the ground, separated by flames and confronting him, Ye Tian asked.
Pig Hu’s voice trembled slightly, but his mood was still okay, "Ye Tian, you better be ready, the scene coming up is something I reckon you’ve never seen in your lifetime."
Under the light of the fire ahead, one could faintly see that the group of snakes had begun to grow restless. Large and small snakes twisted in place, but they didn’t advance further; it seems like snakes, just like people, know fear.
"Almost time, Old Hu, let’s do it. Gather these snakes into the trash can and throw them away."
Just as Ye Tian was about to move forward, he was stopped by Pig Hu.
"What’s wrong?"
Pig Hu pursed his lips, "Look."
The charge before a battle is always initiated by the one standing in front. Suddenly, the large Big Golden Snake at the very front stood upright, its entire front half rearing up like an enraged cobra. Seeing this, the other snakes followed suit, and in an instant, a large swath of snakes with their bodies raised swept over, not charging at people, but at the bonfire. The first snake, with a "smack!" sound, slammed itself down hard, once, twice, showering sparks, breaking some burned-through branches, until it was burned alive and the leading Big Golden Snake finally stopped. It wasn’t over yet; the snakes behind it also crowded forward, one by one, two by two, three by three... All the snakes went mad, throwing themselves into the fire, even if it meant being burned to death, even if it meant turning into another pile of charred flesh, with not a single snake backing away or crawling elsewhere, all pressing on until death in battle.
Ye Tian watched with a heart pounding, the air filled with the smell of charred flesh. Smelling this bloody scent and looking at the bodies of the snakes in front of him resembling blackened sticks, a feeling of nausea surged from his stomach, but he ultimately suppressed it.
"Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Had I known this would happen, I wouldn’t have started a fire."
"You didn’t ask, so I didn’t continue talking about it. Besides, what’s this? Back in the day, we encountered attacks by hundreds or thousands of snakes; this is just a small scene. Relax."
Patting Ye Tian’s shoulder, Pig Hu went to the front fire pit, picked up the charred snake pile with some thick wood, placed it in the trash can, and along the way, swept the wooden ash into the flower bed.
"Alright, let’s go back first. I’ll go outside to see if those people who had it in for us have left any clues... Wait, who’s that?"
"Seems like it’s the Audi A4 Old Zhang mentioned."
After Pig Hu cleaned up the place, he planned to take Ye Tian back, but several people got out of the car and came their way. The glaring round headlights were a distinct feature of an Audi.
When they were close enough, Pig Hu sensed something wrong, "Damn, this group of people is not right."
Looking at the figures, there were four people in total at the front; the leader obviously had a remarkable presence, while the three behind clearly had a dejected look.
"Are you guys the security guards here?"
Ye Tian replied with a "Yes."
"I’m a resident here, and I saw these three outside. They looked a bit suspicious, so I brought them here."
Pig Hu and Ye Tian exchanged a glance, feeling there shouldn’t be any major problem, and they went together towards them. Ye Tian turned on his flashlight, clearly saw the faces of the few people in front — it was the few resigned security guards who had caused trouble the other day.
"Sir, hello, please leave this matter to us. We will definitely make sure you are satisfied."
"I don’t care that much about my own satisfaction, I won’t be staying here for long anyway. They are all yours now."
The middle-aged man waved his hand dismissively, turned, and walked away without saying an extra word, embodying the sort of gravity and resoluteness of character exactly as Zhang Houtu had described him; this was a rather peculiar man. A dull door slam echoed as the Audi restarted, and its front headlights shone right at Ye Tian’s face, confrontational as they were, with Ye Tian squinting at the beams, neither ducking nor dodging, until the car turned the corner and left.
"Beijing H3166." Ye Tian silently noted the license plate number.
"Daring to release snakes, have you flipped?! When Ye Tian turned around, Pig Hu was chastising those three individuals, spitting flying in all directions, completely behaving like a bully who harasses men and women—on the street, people might mistake him for urban management—letting him off without a beating would be letting him off easy.
"Take them back first."
"Big brother, we can’t walk anymore, please spare us," the plump security guard’s voice trembled as if enduring immense pain.
Ye Tian saw all of them kneeling on the ground, their limbs limp and dangling. It was only upon getting closer that he noticed their hands and wrists had been dislocated, and even though it was just one hand and one foot per person, the pain was not something ordinary people could bear.
"Did you do this?"
"How would I know how to do that? If I could do that, I wouldn’t be scared of that little bastard Shen Jingwei." Upon mentioning that son of a turtle, Pig Hu actually found himself missing him a bit.
"Crack! Crack!" Ye Tian quickly snapped their dislocated joints back into place and then dumped out the charred snakes from the trash bin.
The metal trash bins, each weighing about a hundred pounds and paired as one unit for recyclable and non-recyclable waste, weighed around two hundred pounds total. Yet, Ye Tian lifted it with one hand, then flipped his wrist to dump the contents out, which included the clump of burnt snakes stuck together.
"Forty-two in total, right?"
"No... no mistakes," the chubby security guard said, massaging his wrist and responding quickly. These were the snakes he had caught from the ground; otherwise, they would not have waited three or four days before releasing them in Beiping City.
"I must say, you guys sure can play the long game for revenge; instead of wasting time on these antics, you’d better off earning money by moving bricks on the construction site." Hearing that they caught snakes overnight in the fields left Ye Tian unsure whether to praise or scold them, "Alright, get up, come with me."
"Big brother! We were wrong, beat us all you want, but please don’t take us to the Public Security Bureau!" Liu Er grabbed Ye Tian’s legs, pleading desperately with tears and snot streaming down his face.
"Who said anything about taking you to the Public Security Bureau? I just want to ask you some questions."
"Why not just ask us here then?"
Ye Tian looked around and figured it made sense since the place was quiet, and nobody would wander here and join the commotion this late at night.
"I’m asking you, who was that guy just now?"
......
Chen Pingrui, the standout figure of Beiping City, has been the third-generation troubleshooter since the late Qing dynasty and early Republic period. If one includes that batch during the ten years of the Cultural Revolution, you could even call him the fourth generation. There’s not a soul in Beiping City who doesn’t know of him, but of course, this is just among the upper-echelon; only the worldly society dwellers, those who lick blood off knife edges, from the lower levels ever know his name.
