Chapter 31: Captured

Chapter 31: Captured

Nyx was getting heavier by the day and her baby bump was developing each minute. It wasn’t easy as she had never been a parent before.

Sometimes she would just scream for no reason and this often frightened Dora. She always tried to pacify Nyx in anyway she could.

Nyx always felt bad for Dora sometimes, she felt she troubled her a little too much but Dora never complained. She wondered what she would have done if she hadn’t met Dora.

"I am so sorry Dora, when I give birth to the baby, all these will be over," she said one day when she saw the way Dora worked tireless that day.

Dora only smile, "Even when the little pup comes, we will take care of him. Do not worry, we can take care of him together," she smiled softly.

Nyx sighed, she didn’t want Dora to bear all the trouble alone, so sometimes she would also try working in the little way she could.

"I will go out to search for food. We do not have much left," Dora told Nyx and left the house.

She headed to the woods, she was very conversant with the woods. She got to the most driest place of the forest.

"Now where did I keep them?" She looked around.

She stood there for a while in thought before her eyes brightened, "Oh yes, I got it!" She walked to a tree bark.

She tore it open and a lot of meat stored in it fell out. She grinned, "This should do," she spread a cloth she had brought along with her on the ground and gathered all them into it.

There was a loud thud and the earth shook.

She turned around to go home but found out that her pathway was already blocked with a tree bark.

"Why is this suddenly in my way? I have to get to Nyx," she frowned.

She looked around for another alternative but there was none. The bag of meat weighed heavily on her shoulders. She couldn’t climb the bark to get over.

She was getting worried, "If I do not go back and make supper on time, Nyx will starve." She said already getting worked up.

She dropped her bag and wanted to climb over but realised she would have to climb back to get her bag.

She was troubled, "What am I going to do?"

...

Nyx sat down patiently waiting for Dora to come back, it was already sunset and she still hadn’t returned.

"I hope she is safe," she sighed, so worried.

"She never comes home this late."

She stood up and went to the door expecting her arrival. The clouds were growing darker and it was threatening to rain.

"Goodness, it might be a very bad storm."

She went back in to wait some more hours but still Dora had not returned home.

She couldn’t wait anymore and she went inside and wrapped a shawl around her shoulders and carried an extra shawl with her.

She set out to find Dora, hoping she would do that before the rains fell.

She headed to the woods, she had guessed Dora would be there because Dora had once told her she loved being in the woods.

"Dora! Where are you?" She called out, she looked around, taking slow steady steps.

She walked a little further into the woods but she still couldn’t find Dora.

She was already tired and could walk no further.

She sat down on a tree bark, she called out for Dora again, but she got no response.

"Dora, where are you?"

The silence was scaring her. She stood up to continue searching for Dora. She noticed something on the ground. It was Dora’s protective charm.

She picked it up and analysed it, "She must be here somewhere," she looked around hoping to find another clue to where she was.

She sighed and walked a little farther. She then heard some noise in a distance. She rushed towards the direction of the sound. She hid behind a bush and peeked.

She gasped when she saw what was going on, Dora had been captured by vampires!

She panicked, how was she supposed to save her now? She was too weak to fight any of them but she couldn’t just reveal herself just yet lest they capture her too.

She drew backwards trying to figure a way out. The vampires seated around Dora who was all tired up, were about six in number. Trying to reveal herself just like that would be a death sentence.

She heaved heavily as she tried thinking of something to save Dora.

She then remembered an average vampire had several weaknesses and they could be easily distracted.

"If only I had some seeds close by," she thought to herself.

Her eyes brightened, there were some flowers which had seeds on them at the beginning of the forest, she had to go back there and get them quickly before anything happened to Dora.

She left there as quietly as she could and hurried back to the entrance of the forest. She gathered as much as she could and tired them up in the extra shawl she had carried along with her.

"These should be enough," she said to herself, then hurried back to the place she had saw them tie up Dora.

She got there, there was still another problem, how would she sneak up on them without them noticing? She wanted to scatter the seeds on the ground before drawing their attention.

She exhaled deeply, she had to just do it unless they would definitely kill Dora. She took quiet slow steps towards them but on getting there, she noticed they were all set up to slay her.

Her jaws dropped, her heart was pounding hard in her chest. Her hands shook as she struggled to untie the shawl quickly so as to divert their attention.

"This should be out lucky day, a werewolf just came right into our hands," one of them cackled loudly.

They were looking all horrible as their fangs were now elongate and their claws mercilessly stained with blood.

One of them took the knife and raised it up to slay Dora.

Nyx couldn’t bear the thought of it and she screamed loudly.
