The Alpha's long lost heir -
Chapter 247: Ascend the throne
Chapter 247: Ascend the throne
Oberon was seated on his throne, the three elders before him.
"Good day to you my elders," he cleared his throat, "I know i have called for a meeting without notice, but here is the reason," he paused waiting to see a reaction before he continued.
Their expressions were unreadable, so he continued, "I am finally handing the throne over to my son," he dropped the bomb.
Thier jaws dropped, "What? To Archi?" Icarus managed to ask.
"Who else would it be if not my son?" He gave him a sour look.
"That is the point your majesty, we- can not trust him yet," Roshan spoke up.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Oberon blinked.
"If he almost ki-" Zephyr tried saying.
"Do not bring up that subject again!" He quickly cut him off.
"Your majesty, that is the truth," Icarus sighed.
"He is my son. I know him, more than you do," there was a gleam of pride in his eyes.
"You did not get to spend thirteen years with him, how can you say so?" Roshan squinted his eyes.
Oberon held his head, "You knew the circumstances of it Roshan. Was it my choice? Would I have let him go of my own free will?"
"Then again, what are we supposed to do now that we do not trust him? What if he later becomes a tyrant?" Icarus chipped in, "We have not had any history of tyrant kings, in this pack..."
"Of all the tyrant’s ever to be born, you think that is going to be my son? You three do not like him at all! How do I leave him with you?" He was alarmed greatly by their reactions.
"We do not hate him, we just do not want him to.. derail. He very much does seem that way, besides does he even have a mate?" Zephyr scoffed.
Oberon stared at him, amusement flickering in his eyes, "Did your daughter not tell you she is his fated mate?"
Zephyr’s eyes widened, his face contorting in horror, "What? Aria is his mate?"
Oberon rested back on his throne, "Well, it seems the moon goddess wants us to be families, is that not good news?"
"What? No.. I mean yes, but how is that possible? How are they even mates?!"
"You sound as if you were the one who allocated one’s mate to each wolf Zephyr," Roshan shook his head, "Is it not a honour to be a part of the king’s family?"
Oberon just stared at him, observing his reactions. Zephyr didn’t like his son at all, that was a problem.
"Your majesty, he is now fulfilling a criterion we want, a mate, but still, we can not say how trustworthy he is," Icarus stressed.
"I do not remember any of you stressing the importance of me being trustworthy if I had to ascend the throne?" He grimaced.
"You did not have any bad records. You were well behaved," Roshan told him.
"Tsk," he balled his hands into fists, "He will be the next King, and there is nothing you are going to do about it. It is not as if I am not following the traditions," he gritted his teeth.
"We understand your perspective..."
"No you do not. I am stepping down that is that. I have a heir, he will be the one to ascend this throne, no one else!"
The elders fell silent, not knowing what else to say to him.
"You have nothing else to say? You can leave then," Oberon straightened himself.
"Your highness, we can come to an agreement please," Zephyr spoke up.
"About what? Your daughter should not mate my son?"
"No, but..."
"Zephyr, you have been with me for many years, I am disappointed you are beginning to falter in your line of reasoning! What would Demetrius say if he were here? Hm?"
"I am trying to voice out my thoughts your majesty, what have I done wrong?" Zephyr asked, alarmed.
Oberon closed his eyes, heaving, "I should have just declared it myself, rather than asking any of you. You are supposed to make this easier for me, but you are making it hard instead."
"Your majesty, please, I advice he should be watched closely for a while, it is better we avoid trouble, than try to curb it later," Roshan stressed.
"The throne will not be left with no crown sitting on it. I am stepping down, there is nothing else I can do."
Zephyr hissed, holding his head, "This is way more complicated than you think your majesty."
He rose to his feet, "You are the one who is choosing to see it that way, I do not see any complications here," he shrugged, placing his hands behind him, "If you will excuse me," he headed to the door leaving them to gawk in shock.
"Your majesty.." Icarus’s voice trailed off.
"Oh well, keep it to yourself," he replied without turning to look at them. He pushed the big doors open, then left the throne room.
He headed straight to Archi’s room, he wanted to talk with him. Reaching there, he knocked gently, "Archi?"
There was no response, but the door was eventually opened, revealing Archi behind it.
"Oh, father," he bowed, "Do you need anything?"
"I want to speak with you," he exhaled, walking into his room.
Archi closed the door behind them, "What is it about?"
Oberon looked around, before sitting on the bed, "You."
Archi froze, "What have I done this time around?"
"No, you did not do anything. We want to talk about you, come have a seat."
Archi heaved, dragging himself to sit beside him, "So, what is it?"
Oberon kept mute for a while. Archi, on the other hand, was getting impatient, "Father?"
"I am stepping down as king. You will be the one to ascend the throne very soon."
Archi’s jaws dropped, "What? Me? What do I know about being a royal?"
He placed his hand on Archi’s, "You do not have to know anything about being a royal, you already are one. It runs in you."
Archi laughed sarcastically, "I have lived in the woods for majority of my life! How does royalty run in me?"
Oberon hit the back of his head lightly, then gripped it, "You have my blood in your veins young man, why else are you complaining?"
"I am not, I am just surprised. Besides, I do not know if I am ready to ascend the throne."
"What? Are you scared?"
"No, I-" he pursed his lips, lowering his gaze, "I do not think I am ready yet."
"Are you sure?" He narrowed his eyes.
"Yes. We do not just jump into positions like this right? We have to be..."
"I was never prepared to be king. My father died while I was still a child."
"But you are not dead," he groaned.
He chuckled, "I am just trying to prove a point. I want to pass everything down to you, so I can spend more time with your mother. Believe it or not, you are now a grown man."
"I guess," he shrugged,
He raised his eyes to look at Oberon who threw him a dissatisfied look.
"You are a grown man Archi. That is who you are."
He palmed his face, "So in the blink of an eye, I would become king?"
"Yes, fortunately yes."
"It feels so unreal, I do not want to believe that is happening," he shuddered.
"You have to realize my son, you just have to accept some things when they come," he slowly let go of his head.
"What if I am not good enough?" His voice dropped to a terrible whisper, "What if I am a terrible king later on?"
Oberon’s eyes softened, "I understand your fears, but I want to assure you that none of that is actually going to happen. Dissipate those bad thoughts you are having. You will be a great king."
He rested his head on Oberon’s shoulder, "I just want everyone around me to feel justified, and happy. Nothing else," a corner of his lips turned downwards, "Oh well," he raised his hands.
"Oh, there is one more thing I would like to tell you," Oberon added, "Get rid of those elders on your coronation day."
Archi whipped his head up, "Like kill them?"
"What? No," he shook his head, "I mean, they should cease being your elders on the day of your coronation. I can see that they do not like you at all. I am just trying to avoid them provoking you."
"Why would they do that? They are elders."
"Who do not trust you," he exhaled, "They do not want to swallow the fact that you are better than who they think you are."
"Was it because of what I did all those weeks ago?" He narrowed his eyes.
"I think so," he nodded.
He exhaled deeply, "Oh, well, they must think I am going to be a murderer King or something."
Oberon placed a hand on his shoulder, "Your intentions are pure. We have put those incidents behind us, why should we still consider them?"
"The elders do. I think this should be stressed enough for them," he clasped his hands together.
"I have tried, they are just so stubborn, I wonder if they were the same elders I used to work with all those years back," he shook his head in disappointment.
"I am done with them anyway. In the next two full moons, you will be crowned King."
"Two full moons, that is quick," he whimpered.
"There is no time for whimpering. I have to step down, you have to take over son."
Archi paused, letting his father’s words sink into his head. For the next few minutes, he didn’t say anything else as pondered everything his father just mentioned.
"Archi, there is something else," he breathed heavily.
"What is that?" Archi groaned silently.
"Your mate is Zephyr’s daughter right? What is her name again?"
"Aria?" The boredom in his eyes disappeared, "What about her?"
"I am afraid Zephyr may not give his consent in case the both of you eventually want to get married."
"What? Why?"
"He does not trust you," he breathed out, "If he does not trust you to be king, he definitely will not trust you to be his son in law."
Archi’s eyes darted around, his heart racing fast, "I love her. So you are saying he might want us to be apart?" He placed a hand on his pounding chest.
"Yes, but then I will try my best, and do what I can to convince him, but then.. His heart might not be with you."
Archi balled his hands into fists, his jaws clenching.
"What are you thinking of?" Oberon’s voice jolted him back to reality.
"Nothing much, I was just processing everything you said. There is a lot for me out there in the next few moons. I just want to take it but by bit."
"Please do not get too overwhelmed, you will eventually fit in your position, son," Oberon patted him one last time, before getting to his feet.
"Do not worry about Zephyr. Keep seeing the girl, I will do all I can to convince him."
"See you some other time," he headed to the door, opened it,.then walked away after closing the door behind him.
Archi felt heavy within him. He let himself fall back on his bed.
"I thought I did not deserve to be King," he closed his eyes, "Fate decided to prove me wrong."
"He said I do not have to know anything about being a royal, if already runs on me, it is in my blood," he slowly opened his eyes.
"Still I do not find any possibility in that," he scoffed, "He has been in the palace all his life, I have not," he sighed deeply.
"I just need to clear my head, I am thinking too much," he got up from his bed, his head was flooding with numerous thoughts.
...
Aria wrapped her arms around him, "Look, you should not pressure yourself, you are doing just fine. I do not think you will become a horrible king later on," she disagreed.
"If is easy for anyone to say that, but not everyone know where I have been these past years right? I was not even born in the palace, I am still doubting his words."
Aria patted his back, "Doubting his words, doubting yourself is not helping you at the moment. You should not sit here all day doubting yourself, you should actually work to being what your father says you are."
Archi snickered, "I wonder if a part of my mother’s wolf was given to you," he whipped his head in her direction, "You are wonderful. Thank you."
"Do not thank me by merely saying appreciative words. Let me see them in what you do. In the next two full moons you would be coroneted King, how ready are you? How ready should you be? What do you ought to do? When you should, you start working towards those? Now!"
Her words sank deep into his heart. She was right after all, he should start working towards it now.
He lifted her face to look at his, "How are you so young, yet so sensible?"
Her cheeks flushed, "My mother would always stress the importance of taking things into consideration, then acting accordingly."
"She seems to be a wise woman."
"She was."
"Was?"
"She is- no.more," Aria coughed slightly.
"Oh," he scratched his neck nervously, his face flushing with embarrassment, "I am so sorry, Aria."
She shrugged, "That is fine," she patted his shoulder, she thought for a while before adding, "Your future majesty," she bowed.
He blinked, "Oh please," he slightly hit her back, causing her to sit in up quickly.
"What? You know I am saying the truth," her eyes twinkles with mischief.
"Hmm. Aria."
"Your father hates me. He might not want us to be together."
"Why do you say such?" She knotted her brows.
"Father had spoken with them earlier, he was not quite pleased that I am your mate. He might probably not consent to.."
"You should not worry about him," she placed a hand on his, forcing a smile on his face.
"That will be taken care of."
