Chapter 241: "I have done too much"
The iron gate to the crimson den creaked open, and a ray of light shone in the den.
Archi, titled his head to the side weakly flickering his eyes open, his vision was blurred so he didn’t see the person who had come in. His chains rattled as he tried to move but he fell back on the floor.
A figure came in, walking towards him.
"Wh- who are you?" He managed to ask.
The figure was soon hovering over him, then it stooped down, "Archi?" He heard a light female’s voice.
He immediately recognized who it belonged to, "Aria?"
He tried to open his eyes properly, but they were too heavy at that moment.
"Your name is Archi? Not Logan? You are king Oberon’s son!" She gasped.
He gulped, "I am sorry-" but she cut him off sharply.
"You lied to me, I trusted you."
"Aria listen to me," his vision was cleared a bit, "I would have told you sooner, but it would have distracted me from what I came here to do."
"Attempting to kill your father? That is what you came back here for? I am so disappointed in you."
"Please try to understand me, I would not..want to just kill him."
"Who would want to kill their father? What did he do?"
Archi looked away, "You would not even understand, why are you here then?"
"I came to confirm things for myself. I am so,"
"Disgusted? Disappointed? Mad at me? Tsk, that is fine. It was my fault anyways."
"What? I am disappointed in you, I did not say I am mad at you or disgusted."
He tightened his lips, "I have always told you, I did tell you. I am not a good person, I am sorry," he bit his lower lip.
Aria cupped hischeeks, "Listen to me, whatever your father did to you must have been out of ignorance, that did not mean killing him was the solution, you should have talked it out with him."
Archi stared deep into her eyes, "I did not want to talk to him. I just could not."
Aria’s eyes softened, "Listen, you should have. I am sure he would made up for his mistake, you would have been patient."
"What is the use? I was a mistake from the very first place.."
"Shh," she placed a finger over his kids lips, do not say that. You are not a mistake Archi."
He exhaled deeply, "What am I then? I do not even know why I was born," he choked.
"You are special, you definitely came for a right reason," she gently caressed his cheek, "Do not lose hope yet, your mother is trying so hard to revive your father, everything should be fine."
"He is not dead?"
"No."
He exhaled deeply, "Oh," he hung his head, "Oh well, there is nothing left to do anymore, right?"
"You will get out of here, I am certain of it, your father would not leave you to suffer in this harsh den."
"Hopefully," he looked away, "He would hate me a lot, by the time he wakes up."
"I doubt that, keep hoping. Everything will be fine," she kissed his forehead.
He sniffled, "How do you still look at me even though I did something very horrible?"
"You are my mate, I would not leave you."
His eyes widened, "You already know? But.. I.."
"Do you really think clothes would determine your fate with me?"
"He was puzzled, "How did you know?"
"Your mother told me everything. She did say you switched clothes with your best friend, but honestly I did not really smell his scent first."
Archi narrowed his eyes, "That day.. when we first met, you mentioned something relating to my scent was nice.. that you liked it."
"I like your scent Archi," she knocked his head, "I was able to feel you, and smell your scent."
"Really?" He teared up, "Aria, I thought you would not notice," he felt his heart warming up.
"I just did not realize you had another face, and name," she rolled her eyes.
He laughed nervously, "I am sorry, but now you know, we can put that behind us."
"We just have to get you out of here first," she pouted, "I hope he wakes up before the elders can judge anything."
He shrugged his shoulders, "Let fate decide."
She smacked his hands, "Do not be stupid, you are going to survive," she knotted her brows together.
"Of course, of course," a smile played at the corner of his lips.
She stared at him for a while, "I can not wait till you are out of here," she threw her hands around him.
"Very soon I guess."
She kissed the crook of his neck, "Be positive. What will happen to me if you are not here?"
He managed to nuzzle her hair, "I can not be bold to say anything when I tried killing him, it is not as if I am not positive."
She drew back to look at him in the eye, "You will be fine, hm?" She nodded lightly.
He twisted his lips, "If you.."
She poured, frowning at him.
"Okay, okay, I will be fine."
She leaned forward, and kissed him. Archi froze as her lips pressed against his. His heart clenched, torn between longing and guilt. He wanted to lose himself in the warmth of her touch, but the weight of his actions pressed down on him.
Aria tilted her head, deepening the kiss, but he broke away, his breath shaky. "I do not deserve this," he whispered against her lips.
She cupped his face, her thumbs brushing his damp cheeks. "You do."
His lips trembled as he kissed her again—soft, hesitant, desperate. But just as quickly, he pulled back, resting his forehead against hers. "I have done too much to be loved."
"What do you mean?" She swallowed hard.
"I know you are trying to make me feel better, but I can not help but feel that guilt still gnawing at my heart," he looked away.
"I have become worse than a monster, you do not know the people I killed just to get to him."
Aria bit her lower lip, "Archi, you have to let go of those. You made a mistake yes, but please.. stop basking in them already."
"I deserve to be punished," he looked away, "I have done enough."
