Chapter 240: A process
Nyx retuned back to the palace as soon as she was done picking out her ingredients she needed. She walked through the gate, heading to the door.
"Both of them will live," she sniffled, a sad smile appearing on her face.
As she was nearing the palace gates, she bumped into Kaelos.
She lifted her head to look at him, "Oh, hello there," she greeted politely. She recognized this face, but just did not remember where she had seen him.
"Nyx," a soft smile played on his lips, "It has been a while," he stretched out his hand.
She took it, "It has. How are you?"
He shrugged his shoulders, "I have been doing well," his smile slowly disappeared.
She narrowed her eyes, "You were Dora’s friend back then, right? Have you been in touch with her?"
"Not really," he scratched his neck, "I heard what happened, then decided I would pay her a visit."
Nyx’s eyes drooped, "Oh."
"I am sorry, Nyx. Archi-"
"It is fine. There is nothing to worry about. As soon as Oberon is healed again, everything will fall into place," she smiled, "I know it."
Kaelos glanced at the basket she was holding, "Is that what you went outside to do?"
"Hmm, I do know a potion that could heal him, but.. it might take days before he will ever gain consciousness."
"Hm, just keep trying," he patted her shoulder, "You are doing a fantastic job Nyx."
She nodded, "Thank you so much.. er.."
"Kaelos."
She drew her head backwards, "Oh?"
"It is Kaelos, that is my real name," his cheeks flushed, and he coughed slightly.
"Okay. Take care of yourself then," she slightly bowed.
"Bye," he chuckled, then headed towards the gate.
Nyx stared at him for a while before finally going inside. She met Dora standing in the living room, she seemed to be waiting for her.
Nyx cleared her throat, then made to walk past her.
"So you are just going to act as if you do not know me anymore?" Her voice broke.
Nyx rolled her eyes, "I have something to do. Please save your whining for later."
"Nyx," she called, "You are still my friend. Why are you acting this way?"
"What way?" She finally turned on her heels to face her, "What do you mean?"
"It has been thirteen years Nyx, you can not just act as if we did not once share something together."
"Dora please, I am already going through a lot right now, and I would not want more of it, please," she gritted her teeth.
Dora closed the gap between them, giving her a big hug, "Please Nyx. It has been hard living without you," she buried her face in the crook of her neck.
"I knew I had some hope the day you had made that potion for my son. I felt it deep within me."
Nyx exhaled deeply.
Dora disengaged from the hug, "I know you are still mad at me for what I said to you back then, but I did not mean it that way. You are the only real friend I have got, I do not want to continue living like this."
"It is okay Dora. I hold no grudges, I am just a little overwhelmed right now," she bit her lower lip, "I do not want him to die," her voice was barely a whisper.
"With you around, he will not. I know you will find a way to do something," her eyes glinted with hope.
A small smile appeared on her lips, "Thanks," she paused as if lost in her thoughts, "Friends again?" She stretched out her hand.
"Mmh-mmh," Dora took it, "I have missed you so much. I really wished you watched my son grow up."
Nyx tapped her head lightly, "I still have some years left, of course I will still watch him grow up."
Dora chuckled, "Right."
"Should we go, and prepare this potion together? This would be a lot of work for just one person right?"
Dora nodded, "Of course, let us begin."
---
"Then the gourd is next, come on, open it," Nyx peered into the pot, still stirring it.
Dora found the gourd in the basket, then gave it to her.
"What is it? The scent does not feel familiar."
"I do not know. He just gave it to me, and I did not open it."
Nyx gently loosened the rope tying the gourd, then stared at the contents. Dora came up beside her to look at it too.
"It looks very smooth, what kind of powder is this? There are no stones in it at all," Dora exclaimed.
It was a very smooth powder, grayish white. It looked as if it were flakes from the moon.
"It is beautiful," Dora grinned.
"It is," Nyx emptied the contents in the pot, she stirred it as well.
The potion immediately changed from its original purple color to a greyish white color.
"Huh?" Nyx gasped , her mouth was wide open with shock, "Wow, the color changed!"
Dora gawked at it, "It must be a magical powder, strange.. only vampires have that right?"
"I guess," Nyx rubbed her eyes, "Let us scoop some, then go apply it to Oberon’s wounds."
"Yes," Dora headed to one of the cupboards looking for a big keg.
Dora returned with the keg in her hand, "Here."
Nyx poured in as much as she thought would be enough, "There, that should do."
"You are doing a good job Nyx, we love you," Dora hugged her from behind.
"The sooner he heals, the faster my son will get out of the crimson’s den."
Dora blinked, "Oh, right."
Nyx corked the keg, "We are good to go."
Dora nodded, "Okay."
Nyx gulped, "Please, I hope this works. Help me, dear moon goddess," she prayed.
Dora held her hands, "He assured you Oberon will not die right? Then we should not worry, let us go apply this to his wounds, and everything will be fine. You worry too much."
Nyx dragged herself to the door, "I do not have any other option than to worry."
