Chapter 238: Work ahead
Chapter 238: Work ahead
Nyx dragged herself to the main door with a basket in her left hand, she was about to start looking for the Ingredients to the potion she was about to make.
"Show me the way moon goddess, he should be healed by the time the potion is applied to those wounds," she gulped.
She reached the main door. There were no guards around, not even at the main palace gate.
"Hmm," she shrugged her shoulders, "Everyone must be in shock or something," she muttered.
She counted her fragile steps till she got to the gate, pushing it back so she could go outside.
She looked left, and right, "Now where do I go first?" She stood akimbo. Not only that, but she was feeling weak, and almost couldn’t carry her legs anymore.
She heaved deeply, then took a left turn, "I almost have all the time in the world, why rush?" She wiped her nose with the back of her hand.
As she walked along, the breeze gently kept tossing her long golden hair around. Her eyes became watery as the evening wind that evening was not nice to the eyes.
Outside the palace was not all rainbows, and sunshine, and Nys still wondered why they had chose the dullest spot to build the palace.
For meters aways, it was either bushes, old trees, flowers that refused to die or even enter their flowering season. So it became a place for the wolves among them who were expert in wolves.
Nyx remembered how she would try to catch up her father’s pace as they hurried past the palace, sourcing for herbs. Each time she saw it, her eyes always widened with awe, and wonder.
She had already reached the place where she would pick some vine fruit, and vine leaves.
She stood staring at the vine tree for a while, "Oh well," her heart skipped a beat, then she began to pluck the vines.
Tears threatened to fall from her eyes, but she forced them back in, "I am tired of crying. I can not cry anymore, I will not cry anymore," she drew her nose noisily.
When she was done picking what she thought was enough, she turned on her heels. She was searching for Mendelin leaves.
"What a pain," she breathed out deeply, her lips turned upside down.
"I do not think it would be around here," she looked ahead of her, wondering if she should go forward, or take some steps backwards.
She balled her fists, "Okay, forward it is."
She pushed herself forward, her basket in her left hand.
"Hey there, Nyx."
She froze in her tracks, her heart going still for a moment. This voice seemed familiar, she slowly turned on her heels to see him- her long time strange wolf friend.
She narrowed her eyes at him, refusing to say anything for the first few seconds.
"It has been a while, right?"
"You.." her fingers trembled, "what are you doing here?"
"I came here to help you."
"What? Help? Of course all you have been doing is help alright," she forced a sarcastic smile on her face.
"What, no. I am trying to help you."
"My son is in the crimson den! How did you help?" She lashed at him.
"Nyx, there has been a mistake along the line."
"You were the reason we made that mistake. Why else would you tell us there was a kind of danger we will face if I did not take my son, and leave the palace?"
"You had a child then Nyx, rogues prowl about this place as if they were the wind. They wanted your child."
She scoffed, "He was in the palace, how else would they get to him?"
He shook his head in pity, "How many times have your son strayed even though you confined him within your walls?"
She balled her fists, "I would not.."
"Say the truth to yourself Nyx. If your child had died back then, who else would you blame? Do you not even know the pack in which you live in? You are surrounded by rogues," he slowly hung his head.
"The first night you had wolfed in this palace, and you ran out of the palace, do you remember a rogue wanted to have relations with you?"
Her head raved back to that night Oberon had come to save her from that rogue that would have raped her.
"Well.."
"To the Northwest of this pack, lies a pack of rogues, they usually keep their heads, and do not cause any trouble because most of the leaders of the packs around here are Lycan kings."
"So?"
"Your child was born to finish off all the rogues, anywhere, any time."
Her mind immediately raced back to the day Draven had said rogues were scared of her son.
"So, what are you trying to say?" She let her basket slip away from her hands, as she was now invested in the conversation.
"Your child would have caused a war which you casually avoided by leaving the palace. All rogues would have mercilessly finished him off."
Nyx propped her chin with her left hand, "Oh.." the realization hit her.
"I see."
"If you think I am lying, go ahead, and ask Oberon," he turned on his heels placing his hands behind him.
"I can not believe you would just accuse me Nyx, I have helped you before, why do you think I would just stab you in the back?"
"What? No, I- am sorry," she stretched out her hands, "Please I am sorry, I did not mean it that way."
He shook his head, "That is fine."
Tears sprang to her eyes again, "Please help me," she burst into fresh tears, "My son tried killing his father, and inflicted numerous injuries in him."
He looked over his shoulders, "What for?"
"All the incidents that happened in the past few years got to him, plus I had once narrated exactly what happened to me when he was fourteen years old. Since then, he just harbored hatred towards his father."
She dropped to her knees, sobbing quietly, "Now Oberon is close to dying, my son has locked up in the crimson’s den..he might die!" She croaked, "He is all I have, I.. do not want to lose my son! Please," her voice dropped to a whisper, "Help me."
"He will not die Nyx," she felt his cold hands on her shoulder, "Stand up," he helped her get to her feet.
"Do what you must, the both of them will live."
"What should I do?"
"You were about to prepare a potion, right?"
She nodded.
He handed her a small gourd, "Here, have it. When you are done preparing your potion, add it. Oberon will be fine."
Her heart skipped several beats, "Is.. this real?"
"Now, I would not give you something that would not work, would I?" He turned on his heels, disappearing into the bushes.
She looked at the small gourd on her palm, "This.. what is it?" She sniffed it out, but it was unfamiliar to her so she couldn’t recognize the smell.
She picked up her basket that had slipped off her hands, "There is a lot of work ahead of me, let me get working."
