The Alpha's long lost heir
Chapter 233: Combat

Chapter 233: Combat

Archi had now gotten a step closer to his prey. All he just needed to do, was to strike at any time, and this pleased him greatly.

He stood behind Oberon in the throne room, he stood outside his study, he accompanied him to his room, he basically followed him everywhere, that was the only way to build trust, then strike an unsuspecting victim.

"You have done well today, you are quite adept, and it seems you probably learn fast too," he heard Oberon’s voice before him, "Keep it up."

Archi secretly rolled his eyes, "Of course your highness. Where are we heading to next?"

"Outside the Palace," he replied bluntly.

"Wait - what? Outside?!" Archi almost yelled.

"Is there a problem with that?" He didn’t look back, "Hm?"

Archi balled his fists, "No, I just.. I was just.."

"That is okay. You will get used to it, it is only a matter of time, and a few trials."

A few trials? What did that mean?

"Oberon was walking fast, faster than his usual pace.

’What is up with him? He is acting off!’ Archi gritted his teeth, trying to keep up with him.

"Your highness, uh.. your pace is really fast!" He breathed out.

"Keep up with it," was the reply.

Archi ground his teeth, now he was being impossible.

’I want to believe he is no up to something,’’ he thought, "That would be bad for me," he muttered under his breath.

They were already reaching the main palace gate, while Archi was struggling to keep up with Oberon.

"Down with your sword," he stated.

"What?" Archi arched his left brow.

"Drop your sword," he said again, "We will not be needing it," he cleared his throat.

Archi stopped in his tracks, "Huh.."

Oberon noticed this, then also stopped, "Is there a problem?" He asked, but not once did he look at him.

"Your majesty, I still do not understand what this is all about. Going outside the palace wall, dropping my sword?" With that, he let his sword drop to the ground.

"You would not be needing thr sword for anything," he paused, "Will you?"

Archi felt jumpy all of a sudden. This didn’t look good, but nevertheless, he braced himself for the outcome.

"Are you coming or not?" He saw Oberon already at the gate.

"Hm," he briskly walked to the gate, then opened it for him.

Oberon tilted his head to look at him, "Brace yourself up for anything. Outside these walls happen to have a very harsh reality," he spoke grimly.

"If you are not braced up for anything, I will not help you," his grey eyes darkened.

At that moment, Archi felt chills looking at him. He was usually not the scary looking, but at that moment, he just couldn’t explain what Oberon’s eyes carried.

He stepped out of the gate, "Well, we are outside," he flashed his teeth in a grin.

Archi exhaled deeply, "Brace yourself," he muttered under his breath, "You might as well kill him with your bare hands," he wiped his face, stepping out of the gate as well.

Oberon didn’t say a word. He only put his hands behind him, walking forward.

"Where exactly are we going?" He narrowed his eyes. Good thing he always had his dagger underneath his clothed, he would strike with it when necessary.

Archi walked behind him, ready for any kind of attack if it should come.

They were walking farther, and farther away from the palace, still he didn’t see the reason they left the Palace in the first place.

They had already walked about one hundred metres, before Oberon halted in the middle of an open space.

"Why- why are we here?" Archi dug his feet into the ground.

Oberon slowly turned around, "Why? Are you scared?" His eyes were surprisingly cool. He didn’t seem like he wanted to do anything at all, but then this unsettling feeling.

"No, I a still surprised, and confused, what exactly is going on here?"

"Oh well," his claws extended, "Fight me."

Archi drew his head backwards, was this man being for real?

"Fi- fight you?" He stepped back, his mouth wide open.

"You heard me right, fight me."

Archi cracked his neck, this was an opportunity, and he had to take it by the hand.

"You seem to be ground in hand-to-hand fighting your majesty," he bent his knees.

"I had no choice, but to learn it myself. Rogues, and bad guys can decide to be versatile sometimes right?" He chuckled.

’I do not know his reason for wanting to do this, but somehow it is giving me chills, and I hate it.’

"I guess you are right," he mumbled.

"Any problem? If you are scared, we can always go back."

He scoffed loudly, "Scared? I do not think so," he rolled his eyes.

"Good."

They both readied themselves in a fighting stance. Archi was more than focused, if he was going to end him, he should probably make use of a perfect opportunity.

The next thing, a punch sent him flying across the open space.

"Ugh!" He was not ready for that attack.

"You know, you should never zone out in the midst of battles," he heard a voice, and then a kick landed on his torso choking him.

"Get up," he heard Oberon say, "Now, get up!"

Archi was still trying to recover from that punch, and kick. He staggered to his feet, but Oberon had kicked him back down.

Were they actually fighting? He had a lot of experience than he has thought! How he had underestimated an old man.

"There is no time for thinking on the battlefield young man, you would get brutally killed," he punched Archi in his face again.

"Get up!"

Archi could swear he saw stars dancing before him, then he saw Oberon’s hand again, but this time he caught it, then pushed him backwards giving him more time to get up.

"Exactly, using your opponent against himself, smart.’

Archi staggered backwards breathing heavily. Those few kicks made him realized he was not actually grounded in hand-to-hand fighting.

This time Oberon didn’t charge at him, he just waited, "I am waiting for you," he cracked his neck again.

Archi charged at him with full speed, attempting to knock him out in a blow. However, Oberon saw it coming. He caught his hand, then flipped him over landing him on the ground.

"You are not ground in combat at all. That is bad young man, do you think the world revolves around knifes?"
