The Alpha's long lost heir -
Chapter 228: Falling into place
Chapter 228: Falling into place
Nyx wiped her teary eyes multiple times, but the tears would not stop streaming down her face. Any time Oberon wanted to satisfy himself, she was always available, hence the pregnancy.
"What else could I have done back then? I was only eighteen years old," she sobbed, wiping her eyes again.
This was escalating too much. Now her son dreaded his father like he was some kind of enemy, and this was slowly straining their relationship.
"I do not know if I am the one at fault anymore, am I the one at the fault here? Should I have left Archi here with him, exposed him to danger, and let my son hate me?"
She gently rubbed her right arm, shuddering, "What should I do?"
She sniffed, "I have to think of something, before this gets out of hand. I have to either fix this, or let the pack be destroyed."
Her steps had slowed down as she was lost in thought. A hand touched her shoulders, she flinched, spinning around.
"Isla? What are you doing you here?" Yvonne asked.
Nyx held her chest, breathing a sigh of relief, "Yvonne, it is you."
"You know we are supposed to be with Lady Dora, now that her son is in that condition. Come on, let us go there. It is a good thing I found you."
Nyx nodded, "Of course."
Together, they headed to Dora’s room. A heavy silence hung in the room, as Dora cradled beside her son on the bed, while the doctor sat I’m one corner of the room, still trying to sort out medications. Gladys was cleaning the room.
Dora was sobbing quietly, her eyes were all red, and puffy from so many tears.
"Please come back to me," she whispered, caressing his face.
Nyx felt sorry for her again. Her eyes fell on the doctor, and she wondered what kind of medications he tried.
"My lady," he finally spoke up, rising to his feet, "I have tried all I could, but nothing seems to be working. At least, I was able to stop the mixture from getting to his heart, apart from that, there is nothing I have not done."
Dora stared at him, despair clearly written on her face, "You can not help him at all?"
"No, my lady, there is nothing else I can do. I have tried all the potions I have here, I just do not know why it is not working."
Dora buried her face in her son’s neck, sobbing in despair.
"My lady.."
"I think I might know a potion that might help," Nyx finally spoke up, "Since.. none of the doctor’s potions are working."
All eyes turned to face her.
"The Lunar Purge Elixir Potion," she said firmly.
"What is that?" Dora asked.
"This potion will definitely heal your son my lady, it could even help him."
Dora exchanged glances with the doctor, then she looked back at Nyx again, "Are you sure this is going to work?"
She nodded, "Of course, it will work. My mother used to prepare all these potions, and they worked very well."
Dora was a little hesitant, but the doctor was intrigued, "Interesting, please what is it all about? How do we get it?"
"Well, I will have to make it myself, I will just need to go outside the palace to get the ingredients. That is all."
Dora held her chin, trying to sink it in.
"We should give it a try My lady, who knows? This might actually work," Gladys tried convincing her.
"Yes my Lady, just go ahead, and try it," Yvonne added.
Dora exhaled deeply, "Okay then. I will have guards accompany you outside the palace so you can get it stress-free. Please, help my son in the best way you can."
Nyx bowed, "You have nothing to worry about My Lady," she turned around heading to the door.
"Wait, I would have to send for them first," Dora spoke up after her. She turned to Yvonne, "Go speak with any of the guards you find at the gate, tell them to accompany her outside the palace."
"Yes my lady," she bowed, "Follow me," she said to Nyx.
Dora closed her eyes, "Please, this better work," she prayed silently, her hands clasped together.
------
"That is the last of the ingredients," Nyx wiped her head, mixing the contents.
"Oh wow, you did learn a lot!" Gladys beamed.
"Mmh-mmh, a lot of injured people always came flocking our house back then. Mother would prepare these potions, while I would watch."
"It did pay off at the end," she chuckled.
"Okay, that is it," she scooped some of the now ready potion, and poured it into a small keg.
"This should be enough," she breathed out.
Gladys grinned, "Quick, let us go back to them."
They headed out of the kitchen, walking briskly to Dora’s room.
On the way, they met Oberon, who noticed the keg in Nyx’s hand.
"Dora said you knew of a potion that could help," he stared at her.
They bowed, "Yes, your highness," Nyx replied.
"I hope it works?" He used his thumb to wipe off his glistening red lips.
"It does," she replied dryly.
"Looking forward to hearing good news then," he placed his hands behind him, walking past them.
A thought crept into Nyx’s head, and she grinned. What if this happened to elevate her status?
"Let us go Isla, what are you thinking of?" Gladys voice jolted her out of her reverie.
"Of course, nothing," they continued their walk to Dora’s room.
When they arrived, the doctor had gone.
"Hmm, where did he go?" Nyx asked, scanning the room.
"He is not needed anymore I guess," Gladys answered.
Dora noticed their presence, "Have you prepared it?"
She nodded, "Here it is," she handed it over to Dora.
Dora took it with trembling hands, she made Klaus rest against the headboard, so his lips parted slightly. She carefully slipped the potion in his mouth, arching his back slightly so he could swallow it.
"Ar- are the effects immediate?"
"It expels the poison immediately, but he would not immediately wake up. Just be patient."
They waited for a few minutes, and Klaus’ body began to convulse slightly.
Dora panicked, but Nyx calmed her down.
Dark veins popped all over his skin, then slowly faded. His breathing was now becoming more stabilized, and his skin color was retuning back to its original state.
"It is working?" Dora blinked her eyes.
"It is," Nyx chuckled.
Dora’s eyes filled with tears, "So he will finally become unconscious?"
"Yes my lady."
"Oh my goodness! His skin is no longer pale! It is working!" She beamed.
"In case his body becomes chilly, it is because his system is trying to fight off the lingering effects of the poison, by night he should be awake," Nyx added.
Dora got down from the bed, running towards her, giving her a big hug as well.
"Thank you so much, thank you."
A genuine smile played at the corner of Nyx’s lips. She knew how Dora felt as a mother, and wanted to help her too. With this, she had unlocked a new door for herself.
