Chapter 90: Destined To Destroy Each Other?

MOON (At No Man’s Land)

The man who called himself the Red Wolf watched the receding steps of Vessira Nightfang, the Alpha of the Matriarchy Pack. He himself mulled it over that he had somewhere to be, and a figure to meet.

A figure far more important than that of Vessira or Freya for that matter.

So the Red Wolf shifted back to his terrifyingly huge Supreme Red Wolf, running past the edges of the ocean that washed away at the shore and on his fur. His speed was too fast for mere eyes to track him down, and he whipped past like something unnaturally nimble.

His journey took no less than twenty minutes when he came upon a large clearing with mountainous rocks that loomed as unnatural structures, far too foreign for its barren, almost dead environment.

He shifted back, his cloak and mask intact as he walked towards the center of the rocky structures. He knocked three times to a peculiar rhythm, and a voice sounded from inside.

"What is your name, your purpose and your form?" The voice grunted much like a shriek.

"My name is without form, my purpose with a name, and my form without a purpose."

The rock opened much like a door, but no one was inside. Not even the mysterious owner of the voice that had interrogated the man. But the Red Wolf was unperturbed, walking inside like he was well aware of the place and its maze-like layout.

He traversed through the rocky interior until he came about a large room with a single lone tree in the middle. The tree was huge, with sinewy branches that extended to every corner of the room. And the room was dark, only illuminated by the waxing gibbous that was visible through its glass ceiling that cocooned the room.

Underneath the huge tree, just at the stem that reached the ground was a figure. Its face was not exposed, but it stirred like a ball of something unnatural.

"You’re here." The figure rasped, still unexposed.

The Red Wolf bowed. "Master, I have met with Vessira and the witch seer sent to us."

"Have you reassured the Alpha of the Matriarchy?" The voice cooed again, its ball-like body unfurling until a bald head with maybe five strands of hair was slowly exposed. Next, sunken eyes were exposed, and then chapped lips were exposed as well.

He was something between a living man and a dead man. Something between a man that lived for centuries, and a man that had seen way too little sun.

He was just a figure for his limbs still were nowhere to be found, and his lower body was still shaped like a ball.

"I have. But Vessira is understandably averse to our plan."

The unnatural figure smiled, exposing a sparse set of teeth. "Soon, she will believe in our vision of a wolf mightier than all."

"She speaks fervently of this Daemon NorthSteed. Says she fears his mind."

"Daemon NorthSteed?" The figure sneered, "the son of the Luna Queen that ruled the North?"

"It is him." The Red Wolf echoed grimly.

"Even in death, Vandessa NorthSteed still purports to haunt me..." the figure trailed, then he cackled like a mad man. "How is the son of Vandessa now a stumbling block to my path?"

"A second chance at mate bond was bestowed on her and this Daemon NorthSteed."

"The mate bond?" The figure quizzed, genuinely confused.

"Our test subject is most unusual, Master. Not only does she have an ability to see the future, but she seems like a normal wolf in all regards."

Glee shone in the figure’s sunken eyes. "Our test subject sure does supersede our expectations. She is what we expected for after all she died and resurrected; and at the same time, she is what we never expected...." He trailed off, as if in deep thoughts.

"Surely, this Daemon NorthSteed rejected her? We have prepared for such uncertainty. It is after all for this reason that we have made sure she understands that she is the abandoned one and will forever remain one."

The Red Wolf shifted a bit uncomfortably. "Daemon accepted the bond."

The figure’s head whipped to him so fast it almost felt like his head wanted to fall off his frail, ball-like body.

"He accepted the test subject?"

"I myself was surprised too. I tried not to show my shock to Vessira, but the cursed staff is failing."

The ball-like figure jumped up, now exposing only two arms that stretched out for miles. He began to crawl for the Red Wolf, sunken eyes gleaming black.

"She was cursed by the seven elders of the Witch Seers to forever remain alone. It is why her first mate rejected her; it is why the WolfKnight’s never truly loved her even when they had no reason not to. Everything that has thus happened to her life, every tragedy that has occurred followed her unbreakable curse; and yet you tell me her archenemy accepted a bond with her?"

The Red Wolf fell on his knees, his mask still intact. "I shall research and understand how this has happened."

"Research is simply not enough! The subject must be utterly heartless, she must be so stigmatised that when we turn her against her own, she will have no reason to side with them! Do you understand?!"

"Yes master! But you misunderstand, their bond is not exactly against us."

"What do you mean?"

"The test subject shall be close to Daemon NorthSteed who will rule for sure as we have heard. When the amulet is activated and we can control her, don’t you think she can help us bring our dreams of controlling the North to fruition?"

The figures hesitated in his strides. "Nonetheless, she cannot give her heart away."

"Do you think she will be truly capable of giving her heart away? Already she is filled with the need to acquire more power than she already has. I believe she intends to become a high priestess, with the vows and the hate that forever exists between her and Daemon, do you think her hardened heart will ever melt?"

The figure grunted. "I will not make a gamble. End this and end it as soon as now."

"The Witch Seer is already on her way. Be rest assured that Daemon and the test subject being close will never happen with the witch seer there. In two months, the amulet will be activated, and the evil we have bred will finally show its face."

"I am not assured, Red Wolf," the figure growled lethally, "unusual things have already happened, you must activate the amulet in a month. I will not repeat myself again...end this mess already."

"As it pleases you, Master."

The figure hesitated as if unsure of his next words. "Could she be the one?"

"What do you mean, Master?"

"The one who is to stand by the side of the mighty wolf?"

The Red Wolf chuckled. "Master, surely you do not believe in such things."

"Calcum!" The figure growled, and a giant figure appeared almost immediately, looking everything like the same Deformed that dragged away the body of the test subject after her death.

Spittle dripped from in between his canines, and the monster stood tall like a man—albeit one with greying skin.

In a strange language, the figure spoke to the Deformed.

"Ra’vokh, tar kreth marga si’ra. Ka morath fyor, kra shen orath gral ith nerag, vel moras gral ith sirag. Mor durvel kreth fyor ra’vokh vel dur ith, ral orath morna orath."

The words literally translated to; "You once killed his mother, perhaps now is the time for another hunt. One prophecy says she will stand tall by his side and bring destruction to him, another says that it is he that will bring destruction to her. Now, you just have to fulfil the first prophecy before the second one has the chance to fulfil itself."

The deformed howled fiercely, and then disappeared like the gust of a wind.
