The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 88: The Red Wolf

Chapter 88: The Red Wolf

Chapter 89

Somewhere between the borders of the Iron Coast and No Man’s Land.

MOON

The sea tides raged like a tempest even though the moon was hardly out. But the waxing gibbous moon did hang at the sky like a dirty, sour thing that sent equal parts of dread and trepidation to any that beheld it in the chaotic environment.

A red colored wolf, with an intimidating stride strode through the dry land while the sea waves occasionally washed over, staining its fur with wetness. The wolf’s eyes were a turbulent red, and his ears stood at attention as if observing its environs.

It halted, sniffing the air as if it had sensed another presence.

The sound of wet sand crunching and dipping into the ground filled its hearing, and it snapped its eyes to the direction of the sound, a low growl reverberating through his body.

A young woman appeared, with a sensual gait and her features hidden underneath her cloak. She strode slowly for the wolf, a shadowy smile tugging at the edge of lips.

"I, Witch Freya Gregus, greet the red wolf."

The wolf observed the woman impassively for some time, and then it shifted back to human form, a cloak draped against his body as he successfully segued his shift. But besides his clothes figure was the fact that he was noticeably wearing a cultural, crafted mask that hid his features but exposed his red eyes.

He cracked his neck, the muscles of his body popping as he stared at the woman with an impassive dark expression.

"Freya..." He hissed like a snake, drawling the words like a well coiled string. The mask caused his voice to sound like a muffled gruff. "I heard you were once bonded to Daemon NorthSteed, is that true?"

The woman, Freya Gregus, smiled widely, tugging off the hood of her cloak and exposing dark raven hair that shimmered under the stars that painted the dark sky.

"You could say that." Freya said, finally tugging off her cloak completely and carefully folding the cloak while she reveled in the cold wind that carried on. "But I believe this meeting is not for you to inquire about my past."

"It wasn’t," the man hissed again, "but now it is since your man has become inextricably tied to our test subject."

Freya frowned darkly just as the sound of crunching prickled at their excellent hearing. They both whipped their heads to the direction, at high alert. Unsurprisingly, walking towards them was none other than the Alpha of the Matriarchy Pack; Vessira.

The woman’s gait was rough, her stride sharp as she prowled towards them uncaring for how her steps distorted the normally silent environment.

"Your test subject has failed, Red Wolf." Vessira growled the moment she got to them, eyes spitting with anger. "You said to protect her but not too much. Well she has died, and not only did she die but she awakened looking like any normal shifter. As if that was not enough, she is bonded to Daemon NorthSteed. And that man, chanted as Unia and the Ripper as you know, is already suspicious enough about her."

The man’s voice darkened as if highly offended by Vessira’s allegations. "Do you expect me to be scared of some man simply because he won a belated war? And did you observe her close enough to assert that our experiment has failed?"

Vessira snorted loudly, sneering down at him. "You said until she clocks twenty-eight we cannot take her life. Well she is just twenty-four and yet she has died. In my books, that counts as a failed experiment!"

"Do not fret," the Red Wolf gritted beneath his mask, exposed red eyes spitting fire. "Just see it as our experiment happening sooner than usual."

Vessira scoffed loudly, "Is that your excuse? That the plan that you managed to drag my pack into for decades has not crumbled simply because it is happening earlier than usual?!"

"Vessira!" The man growled, voice like the clap of thunder, "I will have you know that I will not take any of your insubordination anymore."

Vessira laughed maniacally, her indignation rising. "Then you must tell me how you intend to mend this. Zina is currently on her way back to the Arctic North, I suggest we take her before any more damage is done."

Freya, who had been silently observing the exchange amusedly finally spoke. "I wouldn’t suggest that, Alpha Vessira."

Both heads whipped to the woman, their eyes willing her to explain further. Freya continued. "Taking Zina WolfKnight forcefully should have been a plan you would have made before she became bonded to Daemon NorthSteed. Now that they’re fated mates and the banished prince has taken the first step to become her bonded, I am afraid he will have protections in place for her."

Vessira gaped at the woman as if noticing her presence for the first time. "And who will you be?"

Freya smiled sweetly. "I am Witch Freya Gregus, a woman who wishes to rise with the wind."

When Vessira simply stared dumbly at her, the Red Wolf explained. "I am well aware that taking back the experiment during her journey back won’t be easy, which is why I intend to send someone who will trigger the amulet in her body. Freya happens to be the witch I intend to send."

Vessira rolled her eyes as if something utterly unbelievable was playing before her eyes. She stared down at Frey with a condescending gaze, searching the younger woman’s features for some semblance of capability but seeing none.

"You must be loosing your touch, Red Wolf." Vessira sneered, resting her eyes that flashed with anger back on the man, "if not, I do not see why you would tease me by sending an inept to infiltrate the Arctic Castle of all places."

Freya smiled, appearing to not be offended by the insult targeted at herself.

The Red Wolf growled angrily in response, red eyes simmering as his wolf . "Well know it that this inept was formerly bonded to Daemon NorthSteed and she is the only one who can infiltrate the Arctic Castle flawlessly."
