The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 61: Rogue Attack
Chapter 61: Rogue Attack
ZINA
Zina jolted awake at Seraph’s prompting, and she tried to calm her beating heart in the face of the commotion that greeted her senses.
It had not been exactly surprising when on their way, they had not encountered any rogue. But encountering one when they were almost at the territory of the Army Without An Alpha was quite shocking....and certainly unexpected.
To feed the rogue army, the rogues had resorted to snatching—or more like stealing—food from hardworking Packs without much power and territory. Zina had heard many tales like that at the numerous rest stops they stopped at, so Zina figured that the rogue attack was merely a move to snatch a rich traveling figure’s food.
Only if they knew that Zina’s not more than twenty companions were well up to the task of protecting themselves, and protecting Zina if they so pleased.
But why was the commotion outside so loud despite the sound proofed carriage?
Her question was answered immediately when Seraph opened the window by her side, gasping out loud at whatever sight that greeted her eyes. A dank, horrid smell slammed into Zina, and that much told her that it wasn’t a simple attack even before Seraph screamed her observation.
"Theta! It’s a rogue army!"
"An army?" Zina said, stunned, "how many do you think they are?!"
Yet again, she got her answer even before Seraph purported to give a response. The pounding sound of flesh tearing and bone crunching was so bad it made Zina’s heart fly to her eardrums. That could be the only explanation as to why her ears were beating so loudly giving her a headache.
"Three... I mean at least five hundred!"
Zina’s jaw dropped open. Twenty werewolves, no matter how formidable, could not hold off an army of five hundred werewolves that decided that becoming an outcast was better than being a member of a pack. Although she didn’t exactly blame them. She blamed Eldric for her current situation.
If only the stupid man had decided to see past his gnawing need to eliminate his brother and took Zina’s advise to bring back the Hunt where rogues were given the opportunity to join prestigious packs, then maybe Zina would not be facing five hundred rogues when probably times hundred of that number was back at the camp, lunging lazily.
Just how many of their numbers did Daemon have to face with his Army Without An Alpha that was certainly not that much?
An attack was launched at her carriage, causing it to almost topple as Zina easily slid from her seat, Seraph screaming by her side as Zina landed on her petite frame. It was hardly over as Zina felt the carriage thump so hard like it was falling freely, a likely indication that the wheels had been ripped off.
Zina didn’t want to imagine what kind of strength it must have taken to rip out wheels that had taken them through a six day tumultuous hard journey. Imagining such would only cause her racing heart to race even more.
The window by her side was knocked on, and Falcon’s loud voice carried through. Zina quickly slid the window open.
"Theta, you must come down with your maidservant! I shall make a way for you! "
Without waiting to be told anymore, Zina grabbed Seraph’s arm, and together, they jumped off the carriage. The full depravity of what was happening assaulted her senses. There was so much blood... way too much of it.
She sensed everyone trying to fight off the rogues, including Xalea Borne’s terrifying Lycan. Of course, they were not at peak strength as the full moon was still far from them, and they had just transitioned from the new moon which made a werewolves power weaker.
Even though it was the waxing crescent moon, the weakness from the new moon still lingered. But the same could be said about their enemy’s powers, although Zina wasn’t exactly sure who her real enemy was.
"Protect the Theta!" Ablanch screamed, then next, the sound of bone cracking, clothes ripping, and joints popping filled the air as Zina supposed her guard shifted.
Zina was still dragging Seraph which was comical as she was the blind one. Falcon, still in his human form was dragging Zina along as he ripped and clawed at anything that dared to obstruct their safety. At some point, it got so heated that Zina lost bodily contact with him.
They were tugged apart by a wading sea of rogues, and Zina, still clutching onto Seraph, went into flight mode immediately. She scanned her surroundings with her hearing, sensing for a direction that seemed more desolate so they would run to safety.
More annoying than their current situation was Zina’s heavy ceremonial dress that was adorned with multiple moonstones that formed as a beaded rope on her waist. Her cloth was a shimmering white, the kind a Theta was supposed to wear whenever she was visiting another region in a diplomatic stance.
The cloth, a symbol of her identity and purpose, was weighing her down, causing her to drag her feet.
Seraph seemed to finally recover herself as the maidservant took the reins, taking to tugging at Zina instead.
"We must get to safety!" Seraph said in a panicked voice and they ran through what seemed like a forest—going by how leaves and branches slapped against her face—like their lives depended on it.
Zina didn’t think it was wise to put so much space between her and her supposed protectors and attackers, at the same time, she didn’t think it was wise either to hang around the inferno that might just swallow them.
No matter how far they ran, the metallic smell of blood followed. Zina secretly prayed that the ordeal be over already, but she didn’t finish her prayers when a furry thing that smelled like a rogue slammed between her body and Seraph’s. They lost bodily contact as Zina’s back slammed harshly against a tree.
"She is the one!" the gruff voice of a woman growled, "the woman on white is Theta Zina WolfKnight of the NorthSteed Pack! Capture her and we will be done with this mission already!"
Zina didn’t get to process her words when rough hands roughly hauled her up.
Where was Seraph? She wondered as she could no longer sense thre maidservant’s presence at all. It wasn’t until Zina could clearly hear the rush of a stream did she figure that they were probably standing on a cliff, and Seraph probably rolled down at the impact of the rogue that knocked against their body.
"Seraph!" Zina screamed, thrashing against the hand that held her down. She struggled viciously, and when the wall of a body wouldn’t budge, Zina sank her teeth into the arm, causing the man to swap at her from annoyance.
Zina didn’t stop there, she started kicking, scratching, spitting at the man who held her captive until a blow landed at the back of her neck, and consciousness slipped away from her.
