The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 44: Watering Seeds
Chapter 44: Watering Seeds
MOON
"Then what shall you’ve me do?! I still intend on murdering that older brother of mine, but with this absurd declaration of him, I fear that too is impossible!"
Zina smiled internally as the question she had been waiting for Eldric to ask was presented before her. Instead of correcting him that his foolish plan of murdering Daemon—who was now a Lycan shifter with a thousand werewolves under his command—had always been a foolish sojourn, Zina implored instead.
"Why not bring the banished prince to the capital?"
A baffled silence greeted them.
"What?" Eldric said with an incredulity that inquired if Zina was mad.
Ignoring him, Zina continued. "Do you truly think murdering the banished prince in enemy territory will be possible?"
"It will for he is losing this war. Besides, it is not for you to advise me."
"It is the role of the Theta to advise you," Zina said blandly, knowing she was only raising his ire. "But if you must know, the banished prince will win this war. And when he does, every pack and region within sight will scramble to make his acquaintance. With me at the GreenLands, I shall easily extend the first invitation, and when I bring him to the capital, it will be much easier for you to kill him."
Unable to resist it, Eldric mulled it over. It was indeed true that his older brother seemed increasingly unreachable to him. The Theta’s offer wasn’t entirely unreasonable.
"Are you saying I shall have his head with your help yet again?"
Zina heard the suspicion in his words. "Why not. After all, I hear you still hold my brother Pia?"
Eldric chuckled, "Do you truly hold any affection for the pack who betrayed you?"
Zina didn’t answer that. Instead she asked, "I am willing to do your bidding, but how will you protect me when I get to the GreenLands? As you must know, the banished prince holds no love for me."
"If you must know, the WolfKnight’s at the East are now a mid-ranked pack. They resisted joining the banished prince’s army, but I shall send an order that they protect you."
Zina, who hadn’t been expecting the unusual offer, staggered on hearing that. For more reasons than one, she had resisted inquiring about her pack for their betrayal never ceased to sting her.
But it was true that she needed protection. Although not from the Daemon but from Lykom Lupus.
She feared nothing in the world would ever protect her from the wrath of the man that she pulled down with her tongue. At that moment, the mark on her neck tingled. Throughout the entire night she had laid awake, the mark had been alive burning at her skin.
"Must it be the WolfKnight’s?" She asked in a small voice unlike her.
Uncaring for her discomfort, Eldric answered brusquely. "They will do alright. Your only role is to to bring the banished prince to the capital, and I shall make the necessary preparations on my side."
Harshly, he tugged at Zina until their bodies were pressed together brutally. "Do not think I have forgotten who you’re. If you could easily lie against him all those years ago, you can do the same to me. However, I am not merciful like him. Dare to harbour the thought to betray me and I shall rip your body apart until there’s nothing left of you."
Zina was dumbstruck at the assertion. Eldric thought Daemon NorthSteed was merciful? Had the foolish man even read just one war report about what Daemon did to the rogues? How he tore, clawed, chewed and burnt their body? The screams of his enemies of which he slept to? Their blood which he was bathed in?
In an eerie voice, Zina spoke. "Some call him Unia, while some call him the ripper. The preparations you make on your side must be sufficient. If not, I fear for who it is that would actually die."
Eldric scoffed like he just heard the most ridiculous thing. "You expect my Arctic Wolf to fear a Lycan Shifter? I understand that you’re wolfless, but I wasn’t aware that equates to being dumb. If the banished prince is to step into the capital, rest assured that no part of his body will be left intact."
As he walked away from the room, Zina took some moment to relish at how foolish he was being. But she knew that his foolishness would not last for long, for Moorim, his ever fervent advisor and companion would step in to guide Eldric’s path and perfect his plans.
No matter how much Eldric resisted and acted foolishly, his biological father would not watch him wither away in his foolishness. It was how the Alpha King managed to survive that long.
Seraph bolted into the room, her eyes holding all the panic in the world.
"Are you fine, Theta?"
"I am fine." Zina said in deep thought as she mulled over a plan. The final thing she must do before she leaves for the GreenLands.
"Arrange for me to meet the Alpha Prince Falcon NorthSteed after my meeting with the Theta of the IceSavage pack." Zina said as she staggered towards her bedside table.
She poured herself some water, gulping down the liquid as the thought of seeing Healers to tend to her broken bones filled her with dread.
Seraph shifted uncomfortably. "Prince Falcon? He has an unhealthy, forbidden obsession over you. Are you sure you must meet..."
"Arrange the meeting." Zina said more sternly. She was aware of Seraph’s reservations but that was not the time to think about it. If for a moment Zina thought about herself, or her well being, then this path of self-preservation she was taking would only blur. And her resolve would be shaken fiercely.
Last night, Zina had planted a forbidden seed. It was time to summon all her boldness to water it and let it bloom as Zina foresaw it would happen. Her life was now on the line, but she was racing against a clock.
Come rain come sunshine, she vowed that the man she had always seen in her dreams. The one with dark hair tousled by the wind, eyes as ominous as the world, and the clothing of a commoner must become Alpha King. Not just Alpha King of the Arctic North, but of all of Vraga. For it was him that would lead them from the monsters that would come and ravage them.
The voice in her subconscious spoke to her at that moment.
’I have told you, have I not? That you’re utterly brave and foolish. Bold enough to house an impossible dream... bold enough to see an impossible future. Your gift... your sight, have you ever thought for once that maybe it is a curse?’
Indeed, she was utterly foolish. No wonder he had asked her in her dreams if she saw the day she would die.
The voice spoke again. ’Are you scared he will kill you?’That he will claim your life before you even make any sense of it? And that when it happens, you will realise that you’ve never truly lived. That you’ve always been just a shell?"
And she answered aloud to the voice, causing Seraph to stare at her strangely.
"I am scared."
