Chapter 376: The Scarlet Mother
Chapter 376: The Scarlet Mother
FIONNA
Fionna fought against the feels that reached out to her within the walls of the Red Sisters Manor. While she was successful at that, it was almsot impossible to block out the screams her childhood when the people within these walls tamed and moulded her to become a killing weapon.
True to their training, Fionna had killed a lot of men and seduced many more to their deaths and downfalls.
Whether broken homes, shattered homes, destroyed homes... she had been responsible for a whole lot of them, and she wished she could say she regretted most of the things she did, but she did not.
She was assigned to people at the highest point of power who revelled in the highest kind of depravity. Enslavers, cheaters, tyrants, gamblers, rogues, and the list went on and on.
On more than one occasions, she enjoyed her job. Enjoyed watching them think they had gotten a rare beauty, and then enjoyed watching the horror on their faces when they realized she was a monstrous killer and the swiftest kind.
In her wake, she had had left blood trails and a strewn of corpses. Most called her the duchess of ductress for how she operated on men at night. It had led to the legendary hushed tales where women would advise their men to be careful when they stepped out at night.
Fionna only found that laughable for any married man who needed warning to stay away from another woman wasn’t worth keeping. They should be killed off anyways.
Just the same way her mother had killed her cheating father, and then proceeded to commit suicide herself.
Whenever Fionna thought back to her parents and their demise in the WolfKnight’s pack, she always thought that the route her had taken hadn’t been surprising in the least. People born by filth and into filth had no other choice to leave a filthy life.
That was until she heard about the Great Seer—Zina WolfKnight who foretold the coming of the Great Famine. The fact that someone who had grown in the same filth she did could carve out her name in such a violent world was the awakening Fionna needed to leave the Red Sister.
So she hadn’t left because of the violence of this place, nor had she left because she couldn’t keep up with the lifestyle. Her leaving was because she curious... curious to know if the world had a place for her other than the walls of the Red Sisters doused in blood.
Brought before the Scarlet Mother, a woman whose ugly sneer complimented her age, she knew she wasn’t quite there, but she was already discovering her place in the world.
"Daughter Fiona," the Scarlet mother started without waiting for her and Marcus to greet her, "you’re a sight for sore eyes."
"Scarlet Mother." She greeted while the woman rested her ugly sneer on Marcus.
There was one thing people didn’t know about the Red Sisters which was the fact that they were men haters—misandry of the highest form wrapped in deception.
"Seeing whom you’ve come with, I assume you’re not here to abandon the foolish things you’ve done and come back home." The woman sneered, resting her hawk like eyes back at Fionna.
In them, Fionna could clearly see her hunger and need for control. Should Fionna actually want to come back—not like she ever would—then the Scarlet Mother might actually be willing to take her back.
"I am now the Delta of the NorthSteed Pack, and we have brought tidings from the Alpha King."
"I sent you to Daemon NorthSteed to help him defeat Sofyr the Rogue," the woman gritted, obviously frustrated, "you killed Sofyr but why didn’t you come back home!"
Fionna donned on her most blank expression. "You must be mistaken about something, Scarlet Mother. This is not my home."
The Acolytes—about ten of them in the room— gasped out loud, staring at Fionna like she had grown two head. The Scarlet Mother reared back as if to make sure she was seeing right.
"Did we not tame you years ago?" She asked, unsure. That was where the root of their combined shock came from. There hardly had ever been a Red Sister who left the order and that was precisely because they were tamed from childhood. Made to believe that they had no other home save for the Manor of the Red Sisters.
That taming was the reason why after their missions, they would report back. They had no escape with all their allegiance pledged to the seat of the Scarlet Mother. But Fionna had found her escape in Zina.
It was strange how hearing about the only true connection to her childhood had broken the spell the Red Sisters had on her. It was that that had given her the power to resist.
She wished she had told Zina that. Maybe then, she would have an extra fortitude to withstand whatever she was probably going through in the hands of her captors.
"How did you resist us, daughter?" The woman sneered incensed, "how were you able to turn your back to us?!"
From her peripheral she watched Marcus roll his eyes at the display probably ignorant or simply ignoring the fact that every woman in that room wanted his head.
"I am sure Delta Fionna would shared the tidbits of that part of her life, however the Alpha King has sent us on a very important mission."
The Scarlet Mother scowled at him at the interruption, "I shall not be lending any help to your Alpha and King! He has stolen one of my daughters and I won’t be giving him the chance to steal more!"
"I am afraid you misunderstand, Cara Doefang," Marcus pressed on with rudeness while the Scarlet Mother sat shocked on hearing her name mentioned like so.
"The Alpha King remembers every detail of how he helped you assume your current seat. He has sent me to remind you in case you do not know that of every ten Red Sister in your keep, eight are his spies. And of every five Acolytes under you, five are his spies."
The Scarlet Mother’s eyes bulged at the implication of Marcus’ words while she looked at the Acolytes around her as if to weed out the traitors.
