The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 364: An Act

Chapter 364: An Act

ZINA

The chains rattled at the sound of the woman’s voice. The somebody that was thethered to the chains slowly raised her head, revealing a bloodied face.

Zina stood like a statue and simply stared at her lookalike.

At the woman who had created her and brought her to the world

A woman who had been confined in a dark, damp room meant for the dead for more than twenty three years.

From her peripheral vision, she watched as Rowan gestured to the ancient woman to leave them. And without ado, she did so after introducing mother and daughter in the crudest manner.

How did she expect her mother to look like after so many years of receiving such humiliation and maltreatment? How did she expect she would look after going through the world?

Zina certainly never attempted to imagine what she would look like. Even after seeing her mother in the projection, she dared not imagine for the fear of crushing disappointment.

But the woman that faced her... the woman whose eyes mirrored hers, nose mirrored hers, and face mirrored hers certainly looked far beyond whatever Zina could have contrived to imagine.

She had expected a beat down spirit. It was only natural that a woman scorned and tethered for so long would be depressed and without hope.

But her mother looked far more spirited than any woman Zina had met. Eyes strong like steel, lips drawn like a bow, body taut with anger.

She didn’t smile, nor did her expression shift for a second on seeing her daughter stand before her. In fact, Zina felt like the steel in her eyes hardened on seeing her.

Like she was angry that Zina was there.

Good. That made the two of them, and that would only make what Zina was about to do much easier.

It was apparent Rowan didn’t mean to leave, and that was exactly what she wanted. Take a step forward, and another, Zina only stopped when her boots made contact with a well of liquid on the floor.

She froze, eyes turned down to see what it was.

"Ahh," Rowan drawled as though he was surprised, "I see the maids haven’t been doing their jobs wel enough."

Every single word was like a jab of ice to her already hardening heart. She didn’t want to tip to the other side, but they were pushing her well into the flames of destruction.

How... just how would she revenge this stain? How would she return this humiliation a million fold? How would she string them like they strung their mother until they bled slowly for weeks and months... wishing for death, but never getting it?

How?

He who had everything must be prepared to lose everything.

Zina braced herself, an easy sneer over taking her expression, cloaking well enough the anger that brewed underneath her facade.

Six years of playing pretend under Eldric’s reign taught her a lot of things. And those lessons would finally come in handy.

"I finally get to see you," she said with a scoff, encircling her mother while stepped into more and more of her liquid waste. "The woman who dared to bring me in this world."

Zina, who had been initially glad for the steel in her mother’s expression found herself at a loss as the steel only seemed to sharpen, her mother looking ever predatory like Zina and Rowan were the prey instead.

"Get out of my sight." She snarled in a low that carried a lethality that only ice queens could muster.

Zina momentarily became at loss with her act, her mother’s reaction throwing her off. She wondered if her mother was acting too the same she acted back at the projection. She wished that was the cast, but even if it were an act, then it was worthy of note that her mother’s was certainly far convincing.

"Funny you would make such a request. You’re right, I should get out of your sight. Truth be told, I’ve no interest staying in the sight of a woman who abandoned me even before I was birthed. A woman who was unable to protect herself and her child." Zina spat without holding back.

Rowan was watching the show intently, while Zina, heart steady was watching her mother’s eyes.

The steel in them didn’t melt in the least as her mother said, "What would you expect of a woman forced to give birth to a monster. Get out of my sight!" She roared, "I do not wish to see a monster like you!"

Even before she spoke, Zina prepared her heart to be as calm as possible. With Rowan’s hearing, she could imagine it would be very easy for him to sniff out her pretense.

Which was why this had to be more than a show, it had to be the truth.

It must be the only truth Rowan and his Master could ever know.

The best lies are more often than not the ones mixed with the truth.

Those were once Daemon’s words to her. So without hesitation, Zina allowed the tears she had held inside of her for the twenty-four years of her existence roll down her cheeks.

"A monster?" She said, chuckling bitterly as she tasted the salt of her tears, "you’ve the best excuse for abandoning your daughter. Twenty-four years you’ve been a pathetic mother, and I’ve come here just to tell you that I wish you would burn. I wish you would feel all the hurt that I felt on everyday I was reminded painfully that I am with no one in this world.

"I wish your world would hurt ten times as much as mine did. And I am especially happy to say that I am glad you’re like this. Seems you’ve been living a far worse life that I have."

The steel in her mother’s eyes didn’t fade a bit. Without emotion, she listened to every of Zina’s words. That was until a strange, bone chilling voice interrupted.

"Isn’t this a spectacle? Finally, mother and daughter have reunited."

Zina whipped her head in the direction of the voice, and the thing that spoke was without a leg. Just an unusually long hand, a head devoid of hair, and eyes big enough to take a third of its face.

Zina knew it without a doubt that she was standing before this Master she had only heard of but never seen.

A man... or a thing, so enigmatic it refused to show in her visions as well.
