Chapter 321: Good News On A Good Day

ZINA

"Could be...?" Seraph scoffed in slight disbelief, "this not a could be matter. This is a ’certainly’ matter. You must be pregnant for sure! These past few weeks have been so fast that I lost track of time. I mean your period is usually late. For four days, five days, or six days at most so I didn’t pay much attention to it. But now that I am looking through your chart, fifteen days could only mean that you and his majesty have worked really hard."

Seraph lost her at some point with her rambling. Zina stumbled on her feet, so stunned she could not utter a word.

She was... pregnant?

A life was growing within her?

She was with... a child?

"We could be wrong..." she muttered. Could her heat have caused it? She had never heard of a case where the Heat caused great irregularity with periods but she wouldn’t be so shocked if she was an exception to the rule.

But this was hardly her first heat. It was her second. And on all two occasions, she had had sex with Daemon. Instinctively, her hand went to her tummy.

She rubbed at it, wondering if such good news on a very good day that was about to usher the best day of her life free true.

"Fine. Since you do not believe I shall send for Elder Sybril. We should have her here by the way, she would help us decide quicker on which dress looks best on you."

And with that, Seraph dashed out of the room. Probably to inform a servant to run the errand.

Zina’s legs began to take her to her vanity mirror of its own accord. She stood before the mirror, and suddenly, she was sure that she had found the right dress.

The white dress she was putting on was not pristine white. Instead, it was that kind of white that seemed to shine depending on the light. It was almost the same colour as her hair that seeend white due to the new season of bone chilling cold upon the Arctic North.

The dress cinched on her lower waist, before flowing like a ball gown to her feet. It had a cute fishtail behind that was at least six feet.

The top of the gown was a daring corset that pushed out a decent amount of cleavage managing to make her look daring and exotic at the same time. The sleeve of the cloth cut out into a double slit that showed the skin of her arm in a decadent yet decent manner.

Two conflicting words, but that was the only way Zina could describe it.

And the dress looked particularly beautiful because she was in it when the news was broken to her.

She touched her belly. It was a flat as she could remember, but she knew it was way too soon to develop a bump.

She wondered when it happened. For all she knew, she could have conceived even before the last full moon.

Zina didn’t know how long she just stood there before her mirror, staring at herself. It could have for five, ten, fifteen minutes, she didn’t really know. But she knew she only moved when her door was opened and Seraph came bolting in, Elder Sybril in tow.

The maidservant had of course gone to bring in Sybril personally.

"Theta!" Sybrik exclaimed on seeing her.

"Elder Sybril, I am sorry you had to make the journey to the castle," Zina said even as she hugged the woman.

"It’s fine. Seraph told me about what is happening. Will you allow me to check you?"

Zina nodded. They took their seat on her bed, while she outstretched her hand for Sybril to check her pulse.

Members of the Temple were trained with varying degrees of healing skills. Thus, Elderwomen like Sybril possessed a natural deftness for reading pulses.

"Have you noticed anything with your body of late?" She asked.

"Certainly none of the popular symptoms." Zina answered quickly having mulled it over herself, "they’ve been no changes to my appetite neither do I feel the urge to throw up."

Sybril smiled. "It’s peculiar to each person Theta. Just tell me if you’ve noticed anything particular about you." She said, pressing against her pulse harder while squinting.

"Well... there’s this persistent headache. And I’ve been under a lot of stress too. I mean I am always stressed out, but I’m more antsy these past few days."

Sybril smiled, releasing her arm. "You’re pregnant Theta. A little less than three weeks by my calculation."

"What?" Zina guffawed at her, "I am truly pregnant."

"Yes. Stress does have a way of hiding these things." Sybril said still beaming at her. "Congratulations Theta."

"But three weeks is a little too early to detect it, right?" Zina voiced, reluctant to embrace the happiness of such news just yet.

She couldn’t deal with any heartbreak. The gods knew her heart was already bursting out of its seams.

"It is usually. But I am confident in your case, Theta. The fact that you’ve missed your period for fifteen days seals the fact for us."

Zina finally let out that full blown smile that was hiding at bay. She felt as though she was floating in the air... that was an effect she never knew could come with happiness.

"Congratulations Theta!!!" Seraph shrilled, hugging her from the side. Sybril held her hand, offering her quiet comfort.

Tears rolled down Zina’s cheeks as the stark difference between her past and her future stood before her.

She now fully believed it that she had defeated that curse. She was no longer the abandoned one.

She wiped her tears away, ready to make some tough decisions.

"Seraph, can you summon Norima Talga for me?"

Seraph and Sybril reared back at the same time. Both startled by her unusual order. "Why would you want to speak with a Night Mage on such a good day? No less Norima Talga?" Sybril questioned.

Zina only smiled. "It’s because this is such a good day." She answered.
