Chapter 320: Trying On Wedding Dresses
The combat round had been so fast that Zina made it back to the Castle before mid afternoon.
The people were excited, even more so when it was announced to at a royal wedding would be holding the next day.
The shock effect of the short term notice was so profound. According to Seraph, every noble lady in the Arctic North had filled every popular seamstress shops, demanding that the best of the best dress be made for them in a matter of hours.
That had posed one problem to Zina as well; what was she supposed to wear?
She hadn’t shopped for anything, and as far as prepared brides went, she was the most unprepared.
But Seraph beamed, "That’s hardly a problem." She said, "His majesty already had a battalion of dresses ordered for you before hand. It’s all part of your bethrital gift waiting for you in your room."
So for the past four hours, Zina had been trying on dress after dress in a daze. Her brain was having a hard time catching up with her current reality, and the same could be said about herself.
The dress fitting wasn’t going as fine as it should. Zina was beginning to realize that she was probably one of the most indecisive woman in earth contrary to her belief even though Seraph tried to make her understand that her sudden indecisiveness wasn’t exclusive to her but was an illness borne my many women like her.
Zina simply found every dress so beautiful. And the next one, even more beautiful. Seraph wasn’t helping as well—the young maidservant would drone on and on about how Zina simply wore everything so well like they had been custom made for her from the beginning.
Such high praise; it was difficult to know whether Seraph was simply being honest or was suffering from tongue glibness.
And because so much had been going on that Zina could only be in one place, she had to send Ablanch to the Great Hall where Daemon was currently locked in with the four that won the contest.
So many comments hadn’t yet departed from the Castle as they all waisted for Daemon to make his finals descision. But the last information that had gotten to Zina just two minutes ago was the same; ’the door to the Great Hall was still locked and not a peep could be heard from in there.’
So so far, no decision was made.
"At this rate Seraph, I would never choose a wedding dress." Zina grumbled as she stepped out of yet another dress.
"Theta I’ve not lied to you. All the dresses so far have been pretty on you, I am sure we will soon stumble on one that will make you look like the goddess herself."
Zina balled the dresses she stepped out of in a ball and threw it at Seraph, "Don’t tell me you’ve been saying they are all pretty on me simply because you’ve been searching for the one dress that would make me look like a ’goddess’." She growled playfully at the girl.
The maidservants helping Zina giggled while Seraph, who was sitting on a chair, her nose buried inside book of accounts that she had been going through since morning looked up and shook her head.
"They are many boxes of wedding attire, Theta. I am sure the one that will make you look like the goddess herself is just a little bit out of reach." The maidservant audaciously said without mercy, "Now Narnia, help the Theta in her next dress." She asked one of the maids who was Zina’s youngest attendant.
The fourteen year old girl grinned, holding up another dress. "Theta, shall we?"
And on and on it went. Honestly, Zina was far too happy to be exhausted by the affair. In fact, she might as well try on dresses for twenty-four hours and not feel any real strain. That was just how much her heart was gladdened.
The maidservants were tying the corset of one of the dresses when Seraph suddenly jumped up from her chair, looking panicked.
Zina’s expression fell. Among the accounts that Seraph had been going through was that years account of all Zina did as Theta including the money she handled and Zina couldn’t help but think that something might have gone wrong.
"What is it?" she asked Seraph, but instead of answering her, Seraph asked the maidservants to excuse them for a while. After which she made sure to shut the door against the thirty-two guards of Zina that had resumed their duties.
Thirty-two guards that Zina had been too thrilled to have taken offense with as she would have normally done.
"You’ve me worried Seraph, surely, whatever the issue it’s not that serious?"
Seraph approached her, suddenly examining her body. An act that was stranger than the look of excitement that was suddenly on the girl’s face.
"Theta...."
"Yes?"
"Your period is two weeks later. Actually, fifteen days late."
"And....?" Zina said dumbly, not quite following. Her period chart was among the accounts that Seraph handled, but she didn’t understand why it had become issue enough for Seraph to talk about it.
Wait for a second....
"Are you afraid it would suddenly start tomorrow and I would stain my white dress?" Zina spelt the words in a rush, horror taking over her as she imagined her beaming tomorrow in a pristine white dress only for people to be pointing a finger at her behind.
She would die of embarrassment... no offense to womanhood.
"The wedding must have your brain in a knot if that’s all you can think about Theta!" Seraph said excitedly, jumping on the tip of her toes.
Wait... why was she being excited at the prospect of Zina’s possible future embarrassment.
Could it be...?
"Theta I said your period is fifteen days late not five days late. This has never happened before!"
Then it dawned on her. Like the sound of thunder whiplashing the sky. "Do you mean to say... that I could be pregnant?"
