The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 274: I Must Kill You

Chapter 274: I Must Kill You

ZINA

"GET DOWN!!!" Shadow’s shrill command came, and Zina didn’t need to be told twice before she got down on the floor of the carriage while she held her head in her hand.

The world around her dissolved into chaos that came in the shrewd form of the whistling of arrows flying in the air; some nailing her carriage, and some missing the target while leaving a trail of terrifying, bone chilling, whistling.

"It’s a Whistling Silver Arrow, Commander!" Zina managed to hear Ablanch scream to Shadow over the commotion, "and they seem like trained elites!"

Trained Elites? From where? And who would be making such a move under Daemon’s nose?

Not a stranger to assassination attempts, Zina was hardly scared. If anything, she was truly curious to know who it was this time around.

A jealous Alpha who wanted to thrust their daughters on Daemon yet again? The Five Great Evils who were confident that Zina was destruction? Or perhaps something far more sinister?

Her bet was on the third because something about the attack didn’t seem familiar, and at the same time, seemed serious enough to be concerning in fact.

But then, she suddenly remembered that Ablanch had announced that they were about to enter the IceSavage Lands. Zina scoffed under her breath as she remembered the cocky smile of Brestom IceSavage from the night before back at the crime scene.

After what happened to the BloodMoons, Zina didn’t expect that the man would be audacious enough to make such a move on her especially since Daemon was targeting eliminating the IceSavage Pack next; a fact that was popular amongst those that cared.

But then Brestom IceSavage had always been audaciously reckless and Zina wouldn’t put it past him to be conspiring with someone else. The borders of the lands were under the patrol of the Packs surrounding it but was occasionally patrolled by central authority. For them to be attacked so openly meant that something had gone wrong with the chain of command.

Another arrow nailed the carriage, piercing through one wall and going through another. Zina squealed, bending her head further down as the carriage jostled violently under her.

She couldn’t keep cowering like this. She was yet to understand the full extent of their precarious situation, and from the constant snarls and growls she was hearing, it seemed their attackers came prepared with lethal weapons.

Zina didn’t give it a second thought before she opened the door of the carriage and rolled out of it smack dab in the middle of Shadow flinging one masked man away like he was a sack of spoiled potatoes. She stood on her feet, dusting herself while Shadow’s beady eyes roamed over her body as if to check if she was unharmed.

Zina in turn was shocked at the strength that he possessed. Even with a wolf, to fling a man like that took considerable strength that average Shifters could only dream of.

Shadow assumed a protective stance before her while Zina took in the commotion with her shock that only kept growing as she took in the numbers that were attacking them.

No, this didn’t seem like an assassination attempt. This was far worse; it was a war.

From the ice mountains that surrounded them and made up part of the borders that led into the IceSavage lands, more and more werewolves clad in rugged dark attire with their faces exposed streamed in.

Some were archers, while some possessed glinting silver swords. Zina could count at least two hundred of them.

Assassins normally masked their faces, but these people seemed to not care about whether their identities were exposed or not. Almost as if they were confident that Zina and her company were not getting out of the situation alive so it didn’t matter in the first place whether their faces were out there for all to see.

The fighting seemed to come to a temporary standstill as each side circled each other, with her and Shadow locked in the middle of the encirclement. A tall, gruff looking woman with a rough expression and a terrible scar on her face walked towards them, eyes glinting with menace. On her back was a quiver of arrows, while in her hands was a powerful looking bow.

The scar on her face was ugly and looked to be the handiwork of silver, or something worse. Zina couldn’t imagine what kind of wound must have left such a horrible scar, but she was sure that it must have been painful as hell.

"Do you know what you’re doing?" Shadow growled in a foreboding voice that sent chills down Zina’s spine. "How dare you attack the procession of his majesty the Alpha King of the North."

The woman chuckled darkly. She looked to not be older than thirty-five, but what did Zina know?

"Shadow, you’re still as amusing even after many years have passed." The woman said in a stoic manner, her eyes glued on Zina. "But as far as I can see, his majesty is not here so it’s fair game for me."

So they knew each other. Could it mean that this was more about Daemon than about her? It almost seemed like they were trying to settle aged squabbles, so how did she manage to end up smack dab in the middle of it?

The gods she was so confused. So much so that she couldn’t take it and had to ask Shadow, "Who is this woman?"

One of their guards whom Zina had heard the rest of their company refer to as a commander was in his Lycan Form, his hairy face contorted into rage.

It was he that screamed the answer, "She is a traitor!" But save for that, the Commander didn’t seem to be willing to divulge any more information.

A traitor? Wow, what a very helpful answer.

"She’s a traitor of the Army Without An Alpha."

So Daemon’s enemy for sure, Zina realized. She sighed, looking the woman dead in the eyes she spoke.

"His Majesty is unfortunately not here. I do not how it is that you’ve managed to infiltrate the Arctic North, but I will advise you to run now with your tail between your legs."

The woman cackled, the scar on her face twisting even worse.

"Run?" She scoffed, "who said I was here for his majesty. On a later day, I shall of course return this favour that he did me on my face. But for today, I was told by a little bird that you cannot die. So I must kill you to test whether it is true that you can resurrect or not."

What?
