Chapter 251: Blood Collectors

ZINA

Zina woke to a world that was jostling and shaking. Her eyes flew open, realizing that she was in a carriage. Seraph’s worried eyes reached hers.

"You fainted, Theta. Elder Sybril said you used too much of your din energy and that you will recover soon. I am glad that you’re awake."

Zina, who was lying splayed on the carriage long chair sat upright while rubbing away tiredness from her eyes. "That explains it...." She muttered, remembering how weak her legs had gotten before they finally gave away under her.

"Are we heading back to the Castle?" She asked, not bothering to draw the window of the carriage open and see for herself.

Seraph nodded while she opened the window by her own side, peering out as if to confirm same. "We’re heading back to the Castle indeed. It’s three in the morning and quite late. I would have decided that you sleep over at the Temple, but I was worried as to how his majesty would react hence why I made the decision to return."

It was indeed late; not a single sound save for the neighing of their horse and the jostling of the carriage could be heard. With the recent unrest at the capital, an unspoken curfew had been enforced. Many feared that the monster that appeared on the day of Daemon’s return would come for them in the dead of the night, so before midnight, most stalls were closed for the day.

Although Zina supposed that with the announcement of the tournament first stage results, a lot of contestants would be celebrating loudly at the taverns that were strewn allover the capital, while the ones that lost would be sulking over drinks.

Mulling over that, Zina realized that despite her earlier tiredness, she was not in a hurry to greet her cold bed back at the Castle. She could imagine that Daemon was saddled with work; so having no desire to disturb him or mop around in her room, she gave Seraph a command to change their destination.

"Tell the coach man to take a detour to the tavern where the man who lost his tongue was found at."

Seraph frowned at. "Should you not be resting? Asides from the fact that Beta DireWolf and his men have closed down the tavern as a place of crime, I do not believe our thirty something guards would be willing to make a detour."

"And since when have you cared about what stran he is think, Seraph?"

The maidservant sighed out loud, and then proceeded to open the divider that separated them from the coachman’s seat.

"The Theta asks that you take a detour to third land street. Specifically the tavern that has been declared a place of crime." Seraph said to the coachman. The carriage veered course to make the detour, and at the same time, the clear voice of Malik Zorch spoke.

"Might I ask why we’re making a detour, Theta? It’s quite dangerous by this time of the night?"

Zina sighed while she drew open the window on her side.

"With thirty trained werewolf warriors trailing after me, Hiwever could I get lost?" Zina said while her eyes discreetly took in her environment. Save for Ablanch and Malik, there was no other person visible to her line of sight. But she could imagine that her thirty guards were just few feets away in their wolf form, shadowing her carriage.

The woman, the hood of her cloak over head, and her eyes which seemed dark blue in the reflection of the full moon didn’t seem to particularly favour Zina’s jab.

"Believe me when I say that my duty is to protect you Theta, and you’re making my job very hard right now."

Zina had to set a few things straight, and that included making Malik understand that whether she was trying to carry out Daemon’s orders or not, by following Zina she was automatically subject to any decision she makes.

"I am afraid you’re yet to understand that while you may work for his majesty, by the mere fact that you’re guarding me, you’re subject to my decision. Now we are going to make it to third land street, and I will trust to keep off all manner of harm away from me while we are it."

And without waiting for the other woman’s response—not like she believed the woman had any response to proffer her in the first place—she shut her window.

She didn’t beleive she was being bratty in the least. Provided, it was a well known fact that third land street was on the seedy side of the capital, but how much could happen when thirty guards were trailing after her?

After some time, Zina felt the carriage slow down considerably as if coming to a halt. She figured that they were already reaching the third land street and Seroah confirmed same by peering out of her window side and saying, "we’ve reached the third land street. But... it seems to be way too guarded for a place where a crime has been committed."

"What do you mean by way too guarded?" Zina asked, but she didn’t wait for her answer as she opened the window to her side of the carriage. There were five Red Sisters, each of them dressed dangerously as if preparing for a mission.

Two of the Red Sisters were golden haired, and their ponytail dangled as far as way below their waist. They had a gold belt cinched to their waist that immediately gave away their rank and position at the same time.

Blood Collectors.

The most lethal kind of enforcers there is. Zina knew that they were people who were responsible for enforcing the laws and rules within the organization... so what were they doing here?

The other three were dark haired—seemingly ordinary Red Sisters. Probably novices, at worse amateurs.

Enforcers of the Arctic North were there too, in their dark guard uniform with an emblem of the Arctic Wolf engraved on it. They stood menacingly as if trying to block off the Red Sisters, and one of them was flagging down her carriage.

Just then, the annoying face of Brestom IceSavage smirked at her while he stood at the middle of the commotion. Bryle, the Theta of the IceSavage Pack was there as well. As soon as the carriage came to an halt, Zina came down while Malik shadowed every of her move with narrowed eyes and an expression filled with distaste.

An expression that Zina didn’t care for.

"What is happening?" Zina asked as she approached the chaos. That was when she had a good view of what might be responsible for the commotion—Fionna.

Fionna stood with her fists clenched as if trying to hold in a destructive kind of rage that had taken over her. And besides was none other than the Sighter whom Zina recommended to her as a great finder.

The man, short for a man and average height for a woman stood with his hands tucked in his pocket and his eyes holding a bored expression. He seemed to stiffen as she approached, but otherwise he didn’t acknowledge her.

Then he was saying, "I was with Fionna throughout the tournament so she couldn’t have been the one who killed this lovely Red Sister."
