The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 244: Thirty Guards

Chapter 244: Thirty Guards

ZINA

Fully dressed and starting her day late simply for the fact that she had spent an unhealthy amount of time in bed with Daemon, Zina read through the letter that the North Heralder had sent her that morning which Seraph had received.

’If you’re reading this letter, the I must have already reached the Iron Coast, Theta. The fortune teller whom you sent me to search for must also be at the Northern Temple waiting for you by now. She set out immediately for the North after I told her who you’re, however as to the price of her presence, she insisted she would only name it when she stands before you. I shall try to not spend more than two weeks at the Iron Coast per your orders while I search for information on the Screamers Pack.

Be well.’

— The North Heralder

Between Daemon’s task to her that morning and the contents of the letter, Zina finally made up her mind to visit the Temple. On taking the first step out of her room with Seraph in tow behind her, she realized that Daemon had been hardly joking when he spoke of enlisting thirty guards for her should she be against her house arrest.

Zina was stunned. Surely, the man was doing too much? If not, how else would she describe the battalion of people just outside her room, clad in dark leather and wearing lethal expressions as if waiting for their next kill?

A young woman, possessing sensual curves, bleak yet seductive eyes with thin lips approached her. She wore thigh high boots, and the hilt of the two daggers strapped to her waist was constantly revealed when her cloak swished against the wind.

"Theta." The woman greeted, bowing at her. Despite how young the woman appeared to be, the men behind her seemed to accord her respect with their stance.

Zina who had chosen her dark dress with slits up to the elbow and a flowing gown looked the woman up and down like she was a stranger from another world. She noticed that the woman’s nose flared as if sniffing something. She was probably realizing that Zina had been claimed by Daemon, a scent that hung on her body which she had not taken notice of until Seraph spoke of it.

"And you’re?" Zina asked in a tight voice that spoke more of her authority and didn’t betray the stress she was currently feeling at the thought of moving with that number of guardsmen.

Were they guarding against an apocalypse of some sorts? Didn’t that only happen in stories?

The young woman before her seemed to smile a haunting smile— the kind of smile said that she will put to ruins anyone that tried to cross her while she was doing her job. It was the only kind of smile people that had failed at a mission and were on the road to redemption gave off.

She pulled off the hood of her cloak. "I am Malik Zorch," she drawled in a voice that made her resemble Fionna for all the wrong reasons.

"Under the order of my lord, I have been assigned the duty of protecting you, Theta. Rest assured, that you’re in the safest hands that can be."

Zina smiled uncomfortably. She didn’t doubt that for a second, but wait a minute... "’My Lord....?’"

"Ahh, I meant his majesty Alpha King Daemon NorthSteed."

But she called Daemon my lord which meant they had history that ran down for long before Daemon became Alpha King. While the title wasn’t a low one in the least, I the Arctic North, it was mostly Alpha Princes that were referred to by the name.

"House Zorch...." Zina mulled, repeating the word. She had never heard of them, and yet the people standing before her looked far from ordinary. It wasn’t just the appearance, they possessed the kind of stealth only well trained Weres could possess.

The woman smiled a drab smile. "My house is it’s a small one Theta, hardly worthy of your attention."

Zina breezed past her while speaking loud enough for the woman to hear, "I hardly doubt that."

The men under Malik’s command moved just as swiftly as she moved, taking their position behind her. It was useless to find Daemon on this, and since they were of one mind, Zina didn’t want to fight him anymore.

Instead, she would have to find ways to fit in whatever situation that came by her side as a result of his actions. Who knows, that might just be one way she would be able to save her position as Thera; a position she was now sure more than ever that she didn’t intend to give up.

She was hardly deceived by the amicable air that now seemed to exist between her and Daemon. She knew that their previous strife, while greatly reduced, still existed between them. She only intended to tackle her problems in a different manner... one that was less hostile.

She climbed her already readied carriage with the help of Warrior Ablanch who was already waiting by the stables. She was hardly worried about the transport of the thirty itinerary that was following her. Instead, excitement coursed through her blood at the prospect of meeting the fortune teller from her childhood, someone she believed possessed the true gift unlike the washed up Seers slash peddlers that now filled the streets and were only after money.

She did wonder why the woman had agreed to ale the journey and see her. What price would she set?

Zina heard the sound of bones snapping and cracking as low growls filled the air. Slightly unnerved by the sound, she immediately opened the window of her carriage only to behold the sight of her thirty guards in their wolf form.

The woman though, Malik, remained in her human form, climbing atop a horse. "If you would allow me Theta, I shall lead your carriage."

Zina’s only response was shutting her window as they finally began their journey to the Temple.
