The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 242: Freaky Zina
Chapter 242: Freaky Zina
FIONNA
"I have one mission and that is to rescue her."
Even as night descended on them and morning came, Fionna could not shake off those words. Who exactly was the Sighter to Zina, she wondered. An acquaintance, or worse, an ex lover?
If the latter was the case, she was sure the Alpha King would rather swallow pins than accept the Sighter to become a part of his house. Fionna couldn’t imagine that would be true either, especially since Zina’s vows of chastity was a popular well known fact.
But what if there was a side to Zina WolfKnight that people didn’t know of? Like a freaky side of her? And how did the prudish woman manage to honeytrap a man such as the Sighter?
It just didn’t make sense, and thinking about it drove Fionna to the edges of madness. She wasn’t sure if she had done Zina a disservice to speak of her to a stranger. The man could be a dangerous killer for all Fionna knew. Or perhaps, a jilted lover that didn’t know what ’no’ meant.
Hell, could the Sighter be some obsessed stalker who was after Zina’s life? The gods, none of it made sense, for afterall the Sighter had later inquired as much as Zina’s birth. Unless he was that kind of obsessed.
Fionna, who was trailing after the Sighter like a lost puppy stopped on her heels, bewildered at her thought process. She scoffed loudly, unable to believe herself. Instead of worrying about herself she was caring about Zina WolfKnight. This tournament must be causing her to run senile.
Under the Sighter’s threat the previous day, Fionna had reluctantly answered all his confusing questions in relation to Zina. The man had asked about everything; but of course, Fionna could only give an answer in relation to the eight years her young self had spent with the Theta.
With each response Fionna proffered on the kind of life Zina had lived at the WolfKnight’s pack, the Sighter’s expression darkened and darkened until his eyes were narrowed into dangerous slits.
And despite Fionna having answered all his questions, the man still held onto the four objects they had found, refusing to give it up.
Never in her life had she felt so hopeless... between imagining the Sighter tossing the objects away because he might as well be a mad man, Fionna was tethering on the borders of insanity.
So there she was, on the second and last day of the first stage of the tournament, trailing behind the Sighter hopelessly while she imagined the ten ways she could snuff out his life.
The man who walked in front of her seemed to be buried in his thoughts, but Fionna knew that even if she tried to launch a surprise attack on him from behind, he would still parry it successfully.
Perhaps that was what she found scary; the fact that the man was so frighteningly strong and nimble. Fionna had almost never seen anything like him... he simply did not possess any ordinary strength.
"Pray tell, is she your lover?" Fionna asked loudly from behind him, unable to take the silence anymore. If the man was going to draw her into a game that she knew nothing of, then she might as well be given more information than blaise response.
"Who?" He asked, pretending to be dumb.
"The woman you’ve been badgering me about. No... the woman you’ve threatened me for."
He didn’t seem to mind the bite to her tone as he answered in a stern voice, "no, she’s not."
Fionna frowned. Certainly, Zina wasn’t family, right? While Zina had been adopted, the circumstances made it seem as though she had been abandoned in a desolate forest so her family remained unknown.
However, because Fionna had no other leads save for that, she asked.
"Is she your family then?"
His response held a frown if that were possible. "No."
"Then who is she to you then? Believe me when I say that you’ve shown an unhealthy amount of interest when you’ve been inquiring about her."
He paused abruptly, and Fionna stared hard at the back of his head as if it would crack and reveal the secrets the man who was a stranger in reality was hiding.
Surprisingly, he answered. "She’s someone whom I should never have lived without, but who I was unfortunate to live without. She’s someone who should never have been forgotten, but whom I was unfortunate to forget about. She’s the beginning and the end of my world, and whatever remains of it."
Fionna’s jaw dropped open. What the...?
Never had she heard such an intense declaration of... obsession? Just what spell had Zina cast on a man such as the one before her? She understood that as far as beauty went, Zina was on the winning side, but was that really all it took to tame a man such as the one before her?
Fionna, mistress of seduction and assassination she was, was almost ashamed to confront such an intense declaration for herself. Even though the Sighter said that Zina wasn’t his lover, his latter words said an entirely different thing.
No matter, one thing was for sure, the man was not very sane. She would inform Zina later that the man she had introduced her to as a great finder was mad over her in reality, but before that, she needed to make sure she delivered the objects and key in the wins of their team for the tournament.
As if reading her mind, the Sighter said, "If you’re to speak to her of me, believe me when I say that you will not be allowed to participate in this tournament again."
What...?
Slowly, he turned to her. His brown eyes held thunder in them together with the promise of the coming of doomsday. "You might not know it, but this is a matter of treason. I do not believe that the Alpha King would be willing to take in a woman who has committed such a crime, so it’s in your best interest to shut about me. Of course, you can always speak up if the tournament means nothing to you."
And with that, he tossed the drawstring bag of objects to her and then started to leave without explaining a thing.
Treason? How had she become embroiled in treason without knowing it for herself? Just who was this man?
