Chapter 231: Are You A WolfKnight?

FIONNA

As the Red Sister closed in, Fionna swiped her claw in a wide arc, aiming for the woman’s hand that held her sword. The Red Sister leapt into the air, avoiding the attack by mere inches. She landed gracefully and countered with a swift slash of her sword aimed at Fionna’s face.

Fionna dodged to the side, her eyes locked on the glinting silver blade as it sliced through the air. She retaliated with a series of rapid claw strikes, each one aimed at the Red Sister’s face for she knew well that this was a fight of beauty and not a fight of death.

The only way the Red Sisters fought against each other was to destroy a woman’s beauty by destroying the face, or her destroying a woman’s ability to fight which was by slicing off her hand. Death didn’t exist in their world, all they knew about was destruction. And Fionna of course was opportuned to learn same, hence why this was a fight she could not afford to loose.

The woman parried the attacks with her sword, but Fionna’s relentless assault pushed her back. While ordinarily, fighting a long range weapon such as the Red Sister’s sword would have been a suicide mission on Fionna’s side because she used such a short range weapon such as her artificial claw, that was not the case.

The totality of Fionna’s seventeen years of training under the Red Sisters was made manifest, and while the sword Red Hand was older, she wasn’t more skilled. They were afterall of the same rank in the organization.

They exchanged blows after blows with their weapons, their movements a blur of steel and claw. Fionna’s artificial limb gleamed in the sunlight as she struck again and again, her wolfsbane-tipped claws seeking to tear into the Red Sister’s flesh, but it never found its footing. Meanwhile, the Sighter seemed to watch the scene unfold with an expression of mild disinterest and a distant curiousity.

Even though she was yet to see the man in an actual fight, Fionna knew somehow that should he interfere with their battle, the Sword Red Hand would be easily defeated. But no, the Sighter seemed to be quite content being an ’innocent bystander’ while Fionna battled it out with the woman.

If not for the fact that they had technically passed the first stage of the tournament, she would have been angry at wasting such precious time otherwise. Still, she was slightly peeved. How could she not be when it was blatantly obvious that the Sword Red Hand was intent on taking her looks or her hand—whichever she could get to first. But it was also obvious that neither side was willing to give up first.

Harshly, their weapons clashed against each other, causing them to tumble back from the impact. Fionna managed to support herself from falling freely while the Sword Red Hand hit the bark of a dead, frozen tree, causing some of the branches to fall on her.

Supporting herself with her sword, the woman managed to stagger up while glaring daggers at Fionna. "I can see now why you’re a claw mistress yourself. Handling such a difficult weapon must have been hard. Especially when you had to master it when you were all but fifteen."

Fionna smiled, glaring back at the woman equally. "That is false. While I might have officially started training for the position of a Red Hand when I was fifteen, I personally started training for it the year when the Red Sisters took me in... when I was just eight."

"Ah... is that so?" The woman taunted, gripping her sword harder. "Back then when you were eight, I was fifteen. You were a girl then, and that fact has not changed even now."

"A girl...?" Fiona gritted, filled with disbelief. Even back then when she was truly a girl, she did things that grown women could only dream of doing. To get to where she was today, she completed missions that would make grown men cry. And now, this idiot had the guts to call her a girl?

The woman scoffed, "you must be angry. I bet you’re thinking about all the ungirl-like things you’ve had to do to get to where you’re are. From your bleak days as a WolfKnight to now that the Red Sister have give you a foundation... you remain so ungrateful."

For some reasons Fionna was yet to find out, the air turned frigid and it seemed the as though the man who was quietly standing behind her was responsible. The wind started to blow wrongly as the Sighter took a menacing step forward. Snow crunched underneath his boots, causing both her and the Red Sister to look in his direction.

"Your bleak days as WolfKnight?" He repeated darkly, his eyes on Fionna while ignoring the woman who was before them. "Are you a WolfKnight?"

The Sword Red Hand seemed peeved at the interruption. "You must think me a joke?" She snarled. "Even after I’ve declared you a Desserter, you have your lackey interrupting me when I speak!"

With a loud cry, the Red Sister half shifted, her sword gripped in enlonhatwd fingers as she ran at them with terrifying speed. Fionna was caught slightly off guard, and she tried to gain her footing and parry the terrifying blow that was descending for her... for them.

But as one would away a fly, the Sighter gripped Fionna’s artificial claw still clung to her fingers. He didn’t seem to be unsettled by the burn of the silver or the stinging of the wolfsbane as he easily twisted her arm unnaturally until the claw was buried in the Red Sisters chest, shattering her rib cage and aiming acutely for her heart.

It all happened so lightening fast like time had been frozen with the Sighter being the only one who possessed the ability to navigate the still world. Fionna could hardly track how it started and when it ended. It was that terrifyingly acute and brutal.

"Wh...what?" Fionna found herself stuttering while her metal claw was painted blood and the wide, terrified eyes of the Red Sister met with hers.

Her sword still poised and hanging in the air, the Sword Red Hand’s body fell to the ground like a sack of malnourished potatoes, painting the white snow red.

The Sighter didn’t seem to share Fionna’s shock and curiosity over the falling body. Instead, he tugged at Fionna’s hand until her wide open eyes were resting on him.

"Are you a WolfKnight?" He gritted the question again, his eyes burning with something like mad curiosity mixed with danger.
