Chapter 229: Imprisoned
ZINA
’Inquire as to the status of the contest and the word that was engraved on the tongue that was delivered to the Alpha King. Mobilize every resource that you can and make sure to get me an answer as soon as possible.
"Also, I learn that a certain letter was delivered to the Alpha King. Also inquire as to who could have been the sender."
Zina folded the letter that was the only thing that kept her from tipping to the side of insanity while she stalked for her door like a steaming angry thing.
The five Epsilons who were the only visible guards in charge of her room shot her a look that was not menancing in any way, but still managed to be worse. The look that said that she wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon... or forever.
"At least allow me to send a message since you won’t allow me out." Zina said in a voice that did little to hide her despair mixed with a potent rage that scared her into tears. The gods, she was a mess emotionally, physically she was raw, and psychologically she was barely holding herself.
The five Epsilons didn’t speak, but they didn’t need to. Their stance said all they couldn’t say, and that was the fact that they wouldn’t be allowing Zina to send a message as well.
"I can at least send a message can I not?!" Zina’s voice thundered as she attempted to push her way out of the five that formed a tight rope of guards at the entrance of her room.
They of course didn’t budge, while Zina only ended up rubbing her body on theirs while her despair only seemed to climb up even more. She realized that she was only putting her innocent guards in trouble for she was still afterall in her Heat, and night was about to descend on them.
She screamed as angry tears streamed down her face while she stomped her feet like a petulant child. That was the natural result of being locked up for over five hours without a clear reason as to why.
"At least summon my maidservant for me." Zina demanded, wiping away her tears and only ending up smudging it allover her face. The men before her were not responsible for her current situation, as such they didn’t deserve to see her bing so pathetic.
In fact, no one deserved to see her being so pathetic. Not even Daemon NorthSteed who was responsible for her current predicament. She didn’t know why he had to resort or go to such dire lengths to put her in her place, but she would never forget what she was currently going through. She couldn’t even forget it even if she tried.
For seven hours, all she could do was stay still in her room while time ticked by and passed. When Daemon had instructed Marcus to house arrest her, while she hadn’t thought he was joking, she hadn’t thought it would be happening without due explaination give to her.
So there she was seven hours later while evening inched closer while the world as she knew it remained blind to her. She didn’t know of the status of the tournament save for what Marcus had told her before which was that Fionna’s group was in a mess. She was going crazy at that post from lack of information, and her guards with their ever neutral stoic expression weren’t the most helpful.
Footsteps approached her room and Zina peeked out as much as she could to see who it was. Ever since she had been imprisoned in her quarters, she hadn’t heard a single sound. Not even that of a squeaking rat. It was as if the whole world had absconded her quarters out of fear that Daemon’s rage would equally descend on them.
Even the damn insects were scared of him.
So she knew that whoever was approaching her room had to be someone Daemon had already authorized, and at that point, she was starved for human contact of any form. And secretly, she hoped that it was Daemon approaching her room to apologize and tell her that everything was going to be fine.
She hoped that it was him coming to tell her that he never doubted her for a moment, and that all that had happened was simply a misunderstanding.
Disappointment threatened to crawl to her throat when the intruder was revealed to be none other than Marcus, but she buried the emotion away.
Even the sight of Marcus was a welcome addition for the hell that she had to pass through in the last seven hours.
"Am I being truly imprisoned?" Zina inquired grimly when Marcus reached her. She didn’t know what it was, but Marcus didn’t look his normal self. His face was set grimly and Zina feared that she had no reason to be elated at the sight of him.
Marcus might even be more unhelpful than her current guards. And that fact was confirmed when servants that trailed behind him bearing covered food were revealed.
"It’s time for lunch Theta."
"I do not care for lunch!"
Indeed, she was being bratty, but she could hardly care. They were people on the streets that would die to eat a square meal, and here she was spitting on her second meal for the day, but she could hardly care.
"If his majesty imprisons me in my capacity as the Theta, then he must file a formal report with the Temple!" Zina gritted in a low voice.
"Do not make this harder than it already is, Theta. I will advise that you simply sit this one out."
"The hell I will! I do not accept this imprisonment! Not unless he is ready to set up a committee to try me!"
Marcus’ eyes hardened like ice. "You’re pushing it...."
"You must agree with me that the time of clarity is here, Beta DireWolf." Zina whispered harshly, "Does he imprison me as his Theta or his mate. Last I checked, his majesty expressed his interest to remove me as Theta so this makes me do wonder. If the Alpha King is imprisoning me as his mate, then I must call him out formally for false imprisonment of a citizen!"
