The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 205: The Last Banquet
Chapter 205: The Last Banquet
ZINA
The banquet that night was of course far bigger and grander than the last banquet Zina had attended. This one had the most distinguished guests from all the Five Regions, each of them more powerful than the next.
Zina hadn’t bothered to look herself over in the mirror more than once. Tonight, she was more concerned about a certain woman than her appearance. The only thing she insured to do was take a huge dose of the medicine that Sybril had meticulously prepared for her.
She had been taking the same medicine ever since she took the step to get rid of her vows, and fortunately for her, the medicine was known to dissolve the Heat effect for at least the two days that were not the day when the moon would be at its peak.
She entered the bigger banquet hall, her eyes flitting through the guests in search of the Alpha of the Matriarchy Pack. She was able to spot the Pack members themselves, but the woman was no where to be found.
In her search, her eyes made contact with daemon who sat at the head table. He raised his glass at her, while Zina blushed lightly, remembering his earliest words that day.m, before she finally took a seat by his side.
’With you, I want to fight for every part of you; mate bond or not. With you, I always yearn for your companionship.’
While his recent genuineness had been slightly startling to her, Zina found that for every emotion that Daemon felt for her, she felt times a million of it. She wanted to fight for all of Daemon; whether it be the unspoken thoughts in his, or his smiles that were never clear. And she wanted to be with him until the world ended.
But before then, she had to get rid of her demons.
Soon enough, Daemon’s table was flooded by all important guests that spoke of trade alliances, and marriage alliances of course. It hardly perturbed Zina, well, as much as it didn’t perturb the proposers who spoke of such proposal to her hearing despite knowing her status as his mate.
Their defense was that as far as she wasn’t claimed, Daemon was fair game to all, and were they not true. She would better stick to the wall like an insipid wallflower rather than block Daemon’s bright future filled with worthy prospects.
Throughout it all, perhaps he noticed her distraction because he kept on asking whether she was okay, to which she only responded with a smile because she was genuinely uninterested in lying to him again.
Before he could probe further, Alpha A or Alpha Z from the great and mighty AZ Pack would sweep in, their beautiful daughters hanging on their arms while they almost all but pushed said, poor daughters into Daemon’s unwilling hands.
Zina couldn’t find it in her to express any envy. Perhaps she had run out of the damn emotion, but she could see that Daemon was truly trying; being as diplomatic as possible while resisting ’fair maidens. Forging alliances while still manoeuvring himself out of problematic agreements.
The man was superb alright, and in just one night, she was beginning to see how much of an incapable ruler Eldric had been. And the former King could not even come up as half capable as he was.
At some point when he had gotten some reprieve, Daemon had frowned, sniffing at her in the middle of the banquet. Zina had been startled, staring at him wide eyed while thoroughly confused on why he would such a feral thing.
"What?" She asked when Daemon wouldn’t explain himself but only kept staring at her suspiciously like she had committed a heinous crime.
"You’re supposed to be on your Heat today."
The words were almost an accusation, and Zina found herself clearing her throat while she sat upright.
"What about it?" She asked while trying to mask the glee she was currently feeling at the fact that he had actually noticed.
"Today is the full moon...."
Zina had to bite the insides of her cheeks to kept at bay the smile that threatened to bubble out of her. "And?" She said, stretching her leg underneath their table. As usual, it was just the both of them on the huge banquet table, but soon enough after the tournament, the status quo would change.
"Ahh... so you’re playing ignorance," He said with the blandest expression in the world that rivalled the sensations that his hand currently crawling its way down her legs ignited on her skin.
Her breath hitched while her throat became dry. "Daemon, stop." She whispered, trying to keep a straight face while dining and conversation happened about them.
"Oh, so now it’s Daemon." He drawled while his fingers escaped underneath her dress, now touching her bare skin.
Zina’s eyes widened even further as her trapped heat almost threatened to bloom.
The suspicion in his eyes cleared while something akin to an understanding settled in those dark iris of his. "So the Temple gave you something...."
"What?" Zina gasped while his fingers made a tortuous ascent, trying to play the game of ignorance.
"Oh, I’m sure you know what I speak of. Did you perhaps take a traditional medicine to delay your heat?"
Zina was panting heavily at that point. "I...I...."
He removed his hands abruptly from where he was heating her skin and then he proceeded to straighten the prints of her gown. A smug smile played on his lips while he said,
"I hope you’re aware that while taking such things do work for those two days, tomorrow night being the peak of the moon will be three times more tortuous than it ordinarily would have been."
"What...?"
Sybril must have forgotten to let her know about that little piece of information that was definitely not little.
Zina chuckled awkwardly while Daemon’s attention was stolen by yet another Alpha who cleared his throat to get their attention. The poor man seemed to have been standing there for a long time while she and Daemon had been locked in a little world of their own.
The Alpha was with his daughter, but for some reasons, he was reluctant to launch into a pitch of why Daemon marrying his daughter would be the best decision he would ever make as Alpha King.
Zina shrugged while the Alpha shifted uncomfortably, whereas the daughter looked like she would rather the floor open and swallow her whole. They were still talking to Daemon when Zina caught sight of Alpha Vessira sweeping out of the banquet.
When had she entered in the first place? She was so distracted by Daemon she hadn’t noticed.
Without wasting yet another time, she rose from her seat and followed the woman who might have the answers she had been looking for.
