Chapter 201: Marcus & Fionna
Chapter 201: Marcus & Fionna
ZINA
If ever two crashing sea tides danced together, that would be a perfect description for the scene that was playing out before Zina’s eyes.
Fionna was the goddess of war, molded with precision and brought up by one of the most deadliest organizations in Vraga. She was rage embodied, and she was true to her title as the Red Hand of the Red Sisters of the Greenlands.
Her movements were a blur, her fists and feet striking true with a precision that seemed almost like the kind of thing that appeared only in tales told to children to rouse their excitement.
But... Marcus was also a god within his own rights. If Fionna was the goddess of war, then he was the god that reigned through the battlefield and stood behind the scenes controlling the movements of his enemies. Every one of Fionna’s blows he easily parried like he was swatting off an annoying albeit persistent mosquito. He was not to be found wanting and it reflected true in the way he easily dodged every one of Fionna’s blows like the new moon festival celebrations just came early that year.
Perhaps if Fionna was not such a mask of contorted rage with all reasons lost, then one of her blows would have made the mark. But no, instead what happened was that Marcus managed to grip her by the collar of her dark leather shirt, slamming her against the wall while they both breathed harshly against each other.
At least it looked like it had taken an effort on Marcus’ side to parry the blows. The man hadn’t been as unaffected as he appeared if the way he heaved harshly against Fionna was anything to go about.
The scene had not only enraptured Zina alone, many servants who were going about their business were discreetly sneaking a look at the two that were a tangle of mess.
"You test me...." Marcus gritted while Fiona smirked devilishly, her hands coming up to grip Marcus equally by his collar.
With both of them gripping each other like that, one could have easily mistaken them as two passionate lovers lost in the throes of their passion. Except the only thing evidently passionate about the scene as far as Zina’s eyes could see was the murderous glint that shone in Fionna’s eyes.
"I test you," she drawled almost decadently, whispering the words close to Marcus’ ears but it was loud enough that Zina who stood close by could easily hear. "Believe, I am yet to truly test you."
On cue, Fionna raised her legs to knee Marcus on the balls, but Marcus almost as if he had anticipated the move blocked her legs with one of his own. Anger and frustration rooted in Fionna’s eyes and Zina knew that the rage she felt for Marcus was true.
What Zina didn’t understand was why Marcus would intentionally seek the third child of trouble by rousing Fionna’s ire in that manner. He should have just given back the necklace; what was it to him by the way? His act was so unlike him.
"Focus on winning the tournament instead of thinking about useless things."
Fionna screamed with rage, maneuvering their bodies until Marcus was the one pressed to the wall. Zina was amazed at the strength that it had taken her to easily do that. But more than that, she was already eager to get to Freya Fergus other than sit out and watch their childish squabble.
"Believe me, you should watch your back at all times," Fionna threatened in a deathly low voice, "you wouldn’t know when the next silver dagger comes flying for your spine."
Marcus grinned. "Oh my, I am so scared... so scared of the Red Hand whom I just released from prison a few days ago."
His obvious lack of seriousness towards Fionna’s threats didn’t exactly go unnoticed by the other woman. But it seemed that Fiona had a better reign in over her emotion than to attempt to beat the Beta of a Supreme Wolf.
If not his own strength, just the power that flowed through the Pack Link from Daemon would be enough to give him an edge over Fionna. But he held back, the same way Fionna held back from displaying her full strength as the Claw Red Hand of the Red Sisters.
Zina got tired of watching them in a dance of who would pull one over the other.
"It seems you both are way too enraptured with each other to continue stalking me. I shall now leave you to your strange love spell."
The words that were certainly the opposite of what was going on between the both of them had them instantly separating from each other. Fionna rolled her eyes so hard like she would rather swallow frogs than he ever caught in a love spell with Marcus.
Marcus wasn’t as dramatic. No, the man simply flicked away the flint that marred his shirt, and then he was silently following Zina as they walked to Freya’s dwellings in the castle. Fionna followed them too, trailing behind. When Zina told her she was free to leave and prepare for the first stage of the contest, she replied with,
"I don’t trust that man to be able to protect you."
To that, Marcus said gruffly. "Says the woman who can’t protect herself.
A strange silence ensued, and Zina could only imagine that they were both glaring at each other like one was responsible for the problem of the other. She decided to ignore them and focus on her own problems especially since it seemed as though some strange fog connected the duo.
Out of courtesy, Zina knocked on the door of the woman’s dwellings while she seethed with anger over the fact that she was the one responsible, On cue, she remembered how the woman had Zina back at the infirmary, making it seem as though she shared a past with Daemon that Zina could never come close to.
When no one opened the door, Zina knocked harder while Marcus and Fionna went into a fighting stance. Before she could attempt to knock harder again, the door opened on its own as if it hadn’t been locked in the first place.
Zina stared at that ajar door strangely while she exchanged knowing glances with her company. Marcus entered first, while she followed after, and the sight that greeted them tore a scream out of Zina.
She didn’t stop screaming... she simply could not. Not when her staff was currently impaling Freya who looked as pale as a ghost like she had been long dead even before they arrived. And said staff seemed to be responsible for the death in question.
