The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 157: You Trust Me, Right?

Chapter 157: You Trust Me, Right?

I shall make all your problems disappear until all that is left is their debris.

ZINA

No man wanted to be told that a Supreme Shifter was after their lives, because you know what that would mean for them?

Sleeping with one eye open... or not sleeping at all.

Igar would be right to be scared. The man might be dumb, but if he thought Zina revealed to Daemon all the things he did to her, then he would be right to assume that Daemon was truly after his life. After all it was a well known fact how vindictive a man like Daemon was if anything his brothers were currently going through was any indication at the very least.

Zina made her way to her room in the castle, exhaustion engulfing her. Mindlessly, she plopped on her bed while hot tears stung her eyes.

Memories she didn’t wish whiplashed at her like a tornado.

Hands that invaded her and took way too much and left way too little.

A kind of touch she had begun to feel the year her adoptive mother died and left her behind.

It was then that she had truly understood what the woman meant when she said to be an aberrant was to be the lowest of the lowest. Unwanted by all for she could not be subservient to her Pack.

Igar had taken notice of all her loneliness and how easy of a prey she and Fionna were.

They were, after all, two young girls abandoned by both the goddess and the world.

"I must say, I enjoy you playing the role of the jealous mate."

Zina startled as the all too familiar voice travelled to her from a part of her room that didn’t permit for the stream of sunlight. Enshrouded in the darkness of that part was a man that sat on her rocking chair, his legs crossed and a book in hand.

"Daemon." She half squealed and half squeaked as she stared at him in awe.

She must have been really out of her mind if she didn’t notice his enigmatic presence when she had come into the room. But then again, there was something about the way Daemon carried his body with a lethal grace and a silent invisibility. It occurred to Zina that she had never seen Daemon in action and she could only imagine how viscerally beautiful it would be.

The book that was glued to his face lowered, his eyes that sparked like embers crinkling with dark amusement. "And I must say, I love how you say my name... like some prayer."

Zina swallowed, a smile tugging at her lips. Tasting his words on her lips, she repeated, "...like a prayer." While grinning broadly.

Daemon stood, carefully placing the book he was reading on a stool. He walked towards her, enshrouded in some invisible Halo only Zina could seem. Something in her heart tightened as she took in his masculine self that managed to fill up the room, leaving her no space to see anything but him.

But something about his eyes shined with intelligence as if he knew of the chaotic thoughts that swirled in her head. And that was scary.

Zina didn’t want him to see it, to know it. He must not know a thing.

But then, he did the most unexpected thing. The man knelt on the foot of her bed, just where she sat, while dark orbs stared straight through her soul.

His hand crept up, cupping her jaw.

"You look bothered," he drawled, "tell me what haunts you and I will make all of them disappear before you could even blink."

She stared wide eyed at him, her chest heaving up as she panted hard. The intensity of his words knocked off her breath like she was running a dangerous marathon, and now, she was searching for air which was supposed to be the most natural gift in the world.

The words were just on the tips of her lips. As if she was under a hypnosis spell, she was almost ready to spill it all. Whether it be all the things she went through under Eldric, or whether it be the gilded cage the WolfKnights put her in while making her believe that she meant everything to them.

But... she reined in those words, staunch in her resolve not to say them.

She smiled, placing her hand on his that cupped her jaw. "I am fine, just tired."

Her lie couldn’t have been more obvious, and it showed in the way that Daemon frowned, an expression that was really rare to see on him.

"You might not say it, but it’s pretty obvious you don’t share a good relationship with the WolfKnights." Daemon muttered, his eyes refusing to leave hers as if he was waiting for her to slip.

Zina smiled easily again. This was Daemon, and you simply didn’t lie to Daemon. In fact, she didn’t have any intention to lie to him, not when she finally had his trust. If she couldn’t help it, then she just wouldn’t tell the straight lie.

"Remember the WolfKnights came to my rescue when you so expertly manipulated the Rogues to kidnap me," Zina said, still holding her smile, "while I might have issues with Alpha Modrich personally, it really has nothing to do with the WolfKnights. Afterall, I told the lie against you to protect them."

She said so much, and yet, Daemon’s eyes had never held so much disbelief as it currently did. Zina didn’t underestimate his ability to find the truth, but she hoped that he wouldn’t attempt such.

"Is that why you went to see the Beta of the WolfKnight Pack? Because you and the WolfKnights are on such amicable terms?" he said distastefully as if the fact annoyed him. He was either ignorant of her shocked expression at the fact that he already caught wind of her very recent sojourn, or he simply chose not to address it.

"How do you know about that?"

"That doesn’t answer my question, Zina."

The words were a low growl, and the way he said her name at the end sent shivers running down her spine. Zina stiffened, truly at loss on how to handle Daemon and make him believe everything was fine.

"I only wished to ask Beta WolfKnight something." she said easily, maintaining a mask of casualness.

Daemon narrowed his eyes on her. "Of the things I’ve heard of the man, I do not believe he is someone you could just casually inquire about something."

Damnit. It truly seemed as though Daemon was not ready to let it go. Zina wondered how much the man’s spy had heard of her and Igar’s conversation. But she didn’t believe the spy would have been close enough to spy on them, if not, Igar’s superior wolf would have sniffed the person out.

When she said nothing, Daemon growled angrily, "Fine. Since you’re hesitant to say what it is, I shall find out for myself."

Panic engulfed Zina as she felt herself drowning in unchartered waters. "No! You must not!"

Daemon seemed truly taken aback by her response while Zina searched her head for some viable excuse to give him. The man was the force of the world combined together, while she was an errant insect he could simply stomp over if he willed. No matter how much she thought of it, she wanted to keep both the shame and vengeance for herself. So how would she get him to back off?

Taking a deep breath, she decided to stick to her vows to say the truth while towing the steps of manipulation.

"You said you trust me right?"
