The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 151: Unexpected Guests
Chapter 151: Unexpected Guests
Love is pain for it steals your breath and then your heart.
ZINA
Zina stared up at the roof of her room, excitement coursing through her blood. She had never felt the way she was currently feeling in a very long time... or perhaps in forever.
It resembled happiness, and yet it wasn’t entirely happiness. It felt like elation, and yet that description somewhat missed the mark. No, what she was currently feeling was something that scarily resembled fulfilment and completion. Like she had been wandering around lost, but now, she had finally found her home.
And she found said home in Daemon NorthSteed’s steady promises and reassurance. So while she would have ordinarily prevented her heart from swelling up as it was currently doing so, she freely allowed the sensation to take over her.
Was this what it truly felt like to be accepted by someone? Was this what it felt like to not be an abandoned one any more?
The curse that she once thought to be a vise grip clutching her heart now seemed nonexistent. She had managed to convince herself that nothing could ever go well in her life anymore since she was named Thralgor. She convinced herself that the name was more than a curse and went deep to the very essence of her being... but now, she was forced to rethink it.
Not only because Daemon now trusts her and was willing to explore the fated bond that existed between them, but because on her own part, she felt the weight of his feelings for her.
It was scary honestly. But she was willing to recklessly dive deep into the unknown. Something she would never have done if she were still the old Zina who yearned for love but was quite content at huddling in a corner while picking the crumbs of love thrown to her that would have been an insult to a dog.
"Theta." Seraph greeted blandly that morning as she made her way to Zina’s bedside while bearing a bowl of water for Zina to perform her morning business.
Zina grinned, unable to keep off her glee as she jerked off the bed to sit upright. Seraph was taken aback by her reaction, otherwise, the maidservant was not smiling either.
Zina seemed to remember that Seraph hadn’t come back last night, at least not before she slept. But Zina had been too excited and wary that she had slept off the moment her back hit the bed.
"What puts you in such a good mood?" Seraph asked, and Zina noticed her eyes were swollen. The maidservant dipped a clean towel in the water that was steaming hot. She squeezed the cloth and handed it to Zina.
Zina opened her mouth and then closed it, not knowing how she was to start explaining her feelings. She finally settled for a, "Things are now kind of good between I and Daemon."
Seraph’s eyes widened as she too seemed to share Zina’s happiness. "That is such good news, Theta!"
Zina wiped at her neck with the warm towel. "What about?" Zina inquired gravely, "your face seems to show that you have received terrible news."
Seraph sighed despondently. "Terrible doesn’t even quite describe it."
Zina simply looked at her, her eyes urging Seraph to continue. Surely, the more than terrible news wasn’t going to be bad enough that it would offset the great happiness she was currently feeling at the moment. But it was enough indeed as Seraph grimly said.
"The WolfKnight’s are here."
The towel Zina once held in her hand slipped to the floor, staining her bedside rug with wetness. Her shock was so profound that it almost felt like she was hit by an untamed horse that was out of control. Or perhaps, a more accurate description would be that she felt like she was speared through by the horns of a mad bull.
"What?"
"They arrived at the North-Eastern borders last night," Seraph continued grimly. Anger was also shining in her eyes like the residue of hot coals whose light didn’t go out last night. "I believe they’re in the company of the Red Sisters, but the Alpha King is yet to officially receive them, so they’re staying at the borders for now."
Zina’s earlier happiness receded into the corners for fear that the invisible horrible wind would totally extinguish it. Her palm felt clammy with sweat and she rubbed her palm against her night slip to take over the sweatiness. She stood on unsteady feet, and when Seraph attempted to help her, she raised a hand to halt the gesture.
She walked towards her dressing table, and without another word, Seraph knew she intended to dress up.
Done with her washup, donning a grey flowing gown that was the exact colour of what was becoming a drab day, and her hair flowing by her sides unlike usual, Zina made her way to Daemon’s office, Seraph in tow behind her. She had made it halfway to the place, when she stopped in her steps.
Where was she going? And what did she intend to do when she got there? Surely, she didn’t mean to ask Daemon not to accept the WolfKnight’s as a guest.
Damnit, but despite her reservations, she couldn’t bring it in herself to be that woman. The one that ran to her man for help at the slightest provocation. It was Daemon’s duty to accept foreign guests and that was something that she couldn’t help, nor could she complain about.
She had been lucky to have missed seeing the WolfKnight’s back when she was with the Army Without An Alpha for she feared what she would have done to the Alpha if she had laid his eyes on him. But now, it seemed her luck was running out.
Her body shook from intense rage as she gritted her teeth. A murderous aura fell on her and she knew then and there that she could not afford to be in the same room with the WolfKnights. Something would surely happen if such a scene were to ever present itself.
Zina was still stewing in her indecisiveness when firm steps approached her and they belonged to none other than Marcus DireWolf.
"Theta." The man greeted, amusement colouring his tone as his golden brown liquefied eyes swept all over her as if he were examining a furry pet.
Zina didn’t know whom she preferred between Yaren’s normally glaring self to Marcus’ laid back attitude that was enshrouded in darkness in reality. The man had shot an arrow at her afterall during their first ever meeting, so his smiles did nothing for Zina.
"Beta DireWolf." Zina greeted back with an equally scathing smile of her own.
