ZINA
"Listen carefully because I will not say it again; Daemon NorthSteed will never kill me."
A bold and daring statement... but the words were out there in the open and they shocked the woman before Zina.
"How smug of you...." The woman spat, red eyes glowing as if shining with some otherworldly light itself.
Zina stood carelessly, another smile tugging at the corners of her lips. She took menacing steps towards the woman until she backed her into a corner with a pile of bones, leaving her no space of retreat.
"Did you not hear?" Zina drawled in a haughty tone. "It is I who refused him for my vows. Although I almost found him pitiful when he was cutting off hands just for the blazing love and obsession he feels for me. I heard he even ordered all those buckets of ice to stave his burning desires for me."
Zina sighed, whilst the woman’s expression turned darker as she kept on talking. "During my next heat, I might just allow him to take me then and be rid of this inconveniencing vow of mine."
The woman snarled, getting on Zina’s face. She bared her claws and teeth at her as if she truly wanted to rip out Zina’s face or something. "You’re not the one who will stand by his side!" She screamed like it took everything in her to contain her rage.
Zina laughed, even though in reality she found nothing about her new situation funny. But she was playing a dire game with an unknown woman who might just have the answers to her problem.
"You must have thrown yourself naked before him then." Zina scoffed, unrelenting with her taunts. "I do understand he has this appeal, but do you think it is you who is meant to stand tall by his side then?"
The woman was shaking, her body trembling as if she was wracked with tremors. her face mere inches apart from Zina’s. "You’re playing with fire, Thralgor. Do you think there’s anyone who is fit to stand by greatnesses side?"
Zina rolled her eyes. "And yet the moon goddess grants us a bond. Tell me now, what will you do about it?"
"You must die." The woman spelt coldly like she was saying she wanted to purchase some random things.
Zina laughed out loud, then immediately turned serious as she dived straight for the bait. "Do you mean in the same manner the White Monks want me dead?"
The woman didn’t have the decency to deny it. She was so lost in her rage that it meant little to her that she was about to reveal what was probably the so-called secret her ancestors bottled for generations.
A secret that Zina would now kill to know about. She glanced at her surroundings again, and then said. "I will ask one more time, why does it seem like the Five Great Evils have something against me when I’ve only stuck to my role as Great Seer."
The woman’s claws and canine retreated as she faced Zina squarely. "There’s too much ambition in your eyes, Thralgor."
Zina decided to ignore the fact that the woman kept calling her the horrible name.
"What is wrong with ambition?"
"Your ambition will burn our world, Thralgor."
"Whose world are we talking about?"
"The very world the Five Great Evils have worked hard to keep."
Zina’s eyes twitched. "And how will that happen?"
"If you keep standing by the Alpha King’s side, you will bring ruins to the Five Great Evils."
Something dark unfurled within Zina as she asked in a dark tone. "And what is wrong with destroying the Five?"
The woman’s nose flared, her fist clenched by her sides in an attempt to contain her rage. She smiled lewdly, "If you destroy us, how are we to destroy the very monster that you sent to murder the Alpha King."
Zina stilled, her eyes widening slightly. Finally, she shook her head, smiling. "I didn’t send that thing."
The woman’s expression said she thought otherwise. "And yet, the first deformed that showed up after years bolted off the moment you put your body between yourself and his majesty."
The events of that day flashed through Zina’s eyes like a horrible play. She shook her head in disbelief. "You do not know what you speak of." She gritted, almost no longer interested in knowing any truth again.
"Do you even know who you’re?" The woman gritted, "do you know the things that you could be capable of?"
Zina’s world stilled as her dreams filled with blood flashed through her memory. Her fingers clammy with sweat, she wrung her wrists by her sides. "I do not need to know." She lied, attempting to walk away. Once again, she was thrust in a desert without any direction—her past and future only looking bleak.
"He will die if you remain by his side!" The woman screamed.
Zina abruptly stopped midway of her fruitless escape. The gods, was she not tired of hearing that Daemon would destroy her and she would destroy Daemon. Like thousands of conflicting visions, they threatened to bury her... but amidst it all, she had one clarity. And that was the fact that she could never muster it in her to hurt Daemon again, and somehow, she knew that the man would never hurt her either.
Call it her foolish instincts, despite how hollow her heart was at the end of her heat, she had felt Daemon’s ice walls melting for her. The evidence was not strong, but they were there in the little things that morphed into bigger things.
Like the fact he kept Xoli’s ashes for her, and the fact that throughout her heat, he never allowed Zina to spend one night alone. Like the fact that he placed ice towels on her belly before he left her room, and the fact that he kissed her like she was the answer to his unanswered prayers.
Zina—convinced and more confident in herself— said. "If I am to stand by his side, I will make sure his reign is the best one yet. And he will never fall but he would instead rise because I will always have his back."
The woman’s expression turned darker like Zina just spoke the worst sacrilege. It was then that Zina knew there was a darker interplay the woman was hesitant to speak of, but it didn’t matter because she would soon find out herself.
"You’re cursed," the woman spat, "no matter even if you try hard on your own strength, the prophecy of old will come to pass."
Zina smiled smugly, clutching the woman’s shoulders in her hands in an abrupt move that took the other woman by surprise.
"Will you tell me what it is that you’re truly afraid of, or do I need to force it out of your lips?"
The woman averted her eyes, attempting to shrug off Zina’s hand. "We are in a bubble that I created. It is too smug of you to think that you have any power here."
Zina smiled, her eyes zeroing in on the woman’s golden-red eyes. "A little bird once told me that people born with the gift of sight can force people to be disillusioned and talk of their darkest secrets. Normally, it requires magic to work and it so happens that we are in a bubble created by a mage herself. Tell me, do you think that you will tell me your darkest secrets?"
The repercussions of what was going to happen flashed through the woman’s widened eyes. But it was already too late before she could attempt her escape from Zina’s clutch and penetrating stare.
The fight left the woman as her eyes dilated as if an otherworldly being now controlled her body.
"Tell me why the Five Great Evil are so eager to eliminate me?" Zina gritted, amazed herself that the hypnosis was working. But it was channelling way too much from herself, sapping her strength and powers altogether.
"You’re the one prophesied to eliminate the Five Great Evils." The woman slurred, causing Zina to squint.
While Zina had to admit that the Five Great Evils had exceeded their use ever since the Great Purge and were better eliminated, the woman’s answer was underwhelming to say the least.
"That can’t be the whole of it?" Zina asked, shaking the woman’s body vigorously.
"Our ancestors saw you," the woman slurred, her lips dropping, "where you sat on the throne of the Alpha King as the true blooded Alpha-Luna Queen. And then you reigned over a world ravaged by blood."
Zina barely processed the words before her body was slammed into her physical form at the Great Hall.
Alpha-Luna: A Luna who reigns as Alpha of the pack after the Alpha is deceased. However, this is not usually possible as in this world (Vraga) it is impossible to pass the pack link (ie Alpha Power) from an Alpha to a woman.
Alpha-Luna Queen: A Luna Queen who reigns as Alpha King of the pack after the Alpha King is deceased. However, this is not usually possible as in this world (Vraga) it is impossible to pass the pack link (ie Alpha Power) from an Alpha King to a woman.
However, a pack link can be passed from a female Alpha to another female. An example is the Matriarchy Pack.
