Chapter 123: Crime Of Ignorance
Chapter 123: Crime Of Ignorance
ZINA
Zina woke the next morning, feeling spent like she had stretched her body to unimaginable lengths. Her throat was parched, her body wasted like a dead vegetable, and she could see.
At first, it was all a blurry mess, but then her sight cleared and she could see the room she was in clearly. It wasn’t at all familiar, nor did it look like Eldric’s former chambers. This room she found herself in was dark, possessing a dark edge to its fashion.
The curtains were a grey colour, the bedsheets were a night black, and the room was without light owing to the fact that the curtains hadn’t been drawn open yet. But she could see that it was already morning from the small stream of sunlight that escaped from the side of the curtain that wasn’t properly drawn close well.
Zina groaned, attempting to sit straighter on the bed that she was laid on just as the pinprick of pain shot through her body. It was then that she noticed that beneath the quilt she was buried under, her body was naked and soaked with cold water.
Memories of last night flooded through her like a tsunami. The words that were said, feelings that were shared, and her shameless wantonness.
This time around, shame didn’t engulf her at the memory. No, instead she just felt a bone deep tiredness at the thought that she would go through the same ordeal that night... and then the next.
But most especially, it was that night that she was afraid of for while the full moon might appear to last for three days, it was a well known fact that it was the second day that the moon was at its peak of being a full moon
And that meant that whatever she felt on the first day of her Heat would be nothing compared to what she would feel the second day which was the ’actual’ full moon. Would dousing herself in ice be enough? Or would she finally give in to her urges?
Last night, she was so sure that she would break her vows, and something told her that if Daemon wasn’t going to be man enough to take her, then she might just find relief elsewhere before she died from the crime of bottling in her desires.
She still couldn’t believe that the man had so cruelly denied her. It made his morbid control seem as frightening as it was ordinarily admirable.
Admirable?
She didn’t hold that thought for long when a morbid voice whispered in her ears.
’What if he sought relief elsewhere?’
The thought of that knocked the breath out of her and heat rose to her cheeks just as she clenched her fists. Her brain quickly took charge, painting a picture of Daemon with some very beautiful woman and him, doing to said woman the things he refused to do with her.
The image she conjured at the thought was as visceral as the jealousy she strongly felt at moment. She could imagine herself decimating the image in her head and watching it burn to flames. But burning the image till all that was left of it was charred ashes wouldn’t make it any less a reality if indeed, Daemon had taken another woman other than her.
Oh, I am affected alright but sleeping with you has never been a part of my plans.
Who knew whatever was part of his plans? Sleeping with some very beautiful woman whenever he was done tending to Zina during her heat?
Zina seethed to the thought of it even though she guessed she had no right to be feeling that way. But if he was the kind of man that would blatantly ignore the same mate bond that he accepted without any thought or respect to said bond, then he didn’t even deserve any of her jealousy.
Zina was convincing herself with those very sound words when a gruff voice interrupted her.
"So many thoughts on that pretty face of yours and you haven’t even said a word."
Zina jolted, her eyes flying to the direction of the voice. She had woken up and had been ignorant of the fact that Daemon had been sitting at the other end of the room watching her the whole time from the blanket of darkness that partly obscured him.
He was swirling a dark coloured alcohol in a glass cup and his dark eyes like vibrant shining orbs were on her, swallowing her whole. He somewhat looked tattered in a rugged way like he had worked through the whole night without a wink of his sleep, and his scruffles casted a dark shadow over his face.
"This is not the room of an Alpha King." Zina said simply because there was not much else to say to him unless she circled back to what happened last night... something she was not ready to talk about.
"But it’s my room." He said, eyes still on her even as he took a sip of his drink. Something about the act sent heat searing through her abdomen and it had nothing to do with her actual ’heat’.
Zina knew very well that the room was once Daemon’s dwelling place before his banishment. But she didn’t comment on that.
Well aware that she was naked underneath the quilt covering her, she could only sit still on the bed while she and Daemon drank themselves in for a long moment.
Finally, he broke the short silence. "I shall have you punished, Theta Zina WolfKnight."
Zina stiffened, thinking back to one of their many conversations when she went into heat. Her mind also went back to what Daemon’s three elder brothers spoke to her of.
"Do you still think I conspired with Eldric?" She gritted, honestly tired of explaining herself. It only made her sound more like a chronic liar which she was not.
Daemon shook his head, then gulped down the remainder of his drink. He stood from the seat, stepping out from the shadows that once shrouded him.
"No. I am punishing you for being ignorant."
