The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid
Chapter 64: Locked in with Him

Chapter 64: Locked in with Him

“It’s probable. However, if I’m not wrong, you can help him...” Prince Darius said before he smiled hopefully down at me.

I can help Prince Leonard. Me? How?

“But if the doctors couldn’t do anything then...I’m just a maid...so...” I said in broken phrases as I struggled to piece my words together.

“You can at least try to take care of him, right? He saved you and took care of you, don’t you think that it’s time that you repaid his favors?” Prince Darius asked as his eyes captured and held mine.

I had no idea how I could be of help but if Prince Darius believed that I could help then who was I to refuse?

Plus, he was right. I did owe Prince Leonard for saving my life, and on top of that, I haven’t even thanked him yet. If he has some disease or sickness, then the worst that could happen to me was that I would catch it too.

Doesn’t sound so bad...

I’ve tended to many girls in the orphanage before when they got sick, so it wasn’t like I didn’t know how to nurse the sick. Maybe, there is something that I can do after all...

Not knowing what else to say and not wanting to waste any more time, I just nodded my head firmly in agreement. Prince Darius smiled at me and nodded in acknowledgment. Then his hand reached out towards me before a large single key dangled right in front of my face.

“Take it,” he said.

“What is this for?” I asked while feeling very confused.

“You’ll figure it out when you’re inside,” Prince Darius replied.

Hesitantly, I took the key from his hand as I tried to keep my own from shaking. I had no idea why I was called here instead of a royal doctor if Prince Leonard was sick. Curing the sick wasn’t something that I was trained to do so I doubted that I would be of any real help. The thought of Prince Leonard being sick worried me very much and I felt myself feeling uneasy and restless.

“We should get the royal doctors to take a look at Prince Leonard...” I suggested again with pleading eyes.

“You can take care of him and help him with his recovery much better than anyone else,” Prince Darius said with clear confidence.

“Me?” I whispered questioningly.

“Yes, you...” he replied.

I felt something warm press against the small of my back and realized that it was his hand as he gave me an urging push forward toward the door of Prince Leonard’s bedroom.

I faced the door as I watched the prince bring out another key and began unlocking the door to Prince Leonard’s bedroom. My heart danced around wildly in my chest, and it got a little harder to breathe. Prince Leonard is on the other side of this door and soon I will get to see him. Although I wanted to see him again, I never dreamt that we would be meeting under these circumstances. I wished someone would have told me earlier that the prince was unwell.

The large door opened in front of me and before I could get over my nervousness, Prince Darius gave me a firm push that shoved me right into the dimly lit room. I heard the door close firmly behind me and then the sound of the lock turning. Prince Darius was locking the door from the outside. Although I knew that I should be somewhat worried about that, I didn’t have much time to care about the fact that I had apparently been locked in with the prince. My entire attention was consumed by the presence of the prince.

Now that I was in the room with him, the entire place felt so still and silent that I could hear even the harsh sound of his breathing. Occasionally, he would groan like he was experiencing intense pain. The prince must have been very unwell because he did not say a word to me although I had entered his room. I wondered if he even realized that I was there.

My body froze in place for a moment as my fear suddenly took over. I shook my head to clear my thoughts before taking in a deep breath. This wasn’t the time to be scared stiff, the prince needs my help. Before I could hesitate any further, I boldly took a step forward toward the bed. The orange glow of light in the room was dim but it was enough for me to make out the outlines of things even though I couldn’t see the details.

I could tell that the prince was lying on his bed and as my legs took me closer to him, I could see his body more clearly. A sharp pain shot through my lower lip when I bit down on it hard to keep myself from screaming at the sight of what I was seeing. Despite seeing a similar sight in my dream, the reality looked and felt much worse. The sound of his panting as if he was struggling to breathe only made me feel worried about him.

“Prince Leonard!” I cried his name in shock when I saw the condition that he was in.

The prince lay on the bed or more accurately, he was chained to the bed with a thick and chunky metal chain. He did not respond to me calling his name although I must have cried out loud enough for him to hear me. Shocked and worried, I was immediately by his side. My first instinct was to unchain him. How could someone this sick be chained to the bed?

The prince looked so weak, and I wasn’t even sure if he was fully conscious or not. I bent down close to his head on the bed as I tried to get a better look at his face. His eyes were closed but he was still groaning occasionally. The sound of metal clinked when his body writhed on the bed against the restraint of the chains that were binding him.

“Please wait, I’m going to unchain you right now...” I murmured as I tried to reassure him that help has arrived.
