The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 52: Abiding by His Command
Chapter 52: Abiding by His Command
I turned and nodded at her before I continued to follow after her down a long hallway after tearing my eye away form the golden status of a large wolf with yellow gemstones set in its eyes. While looking around randomly at the various decorations that lined the hallway, I began thinking of Prince Leonard while I wondered where he could be right now. I wasn’t sure how I felt but I guess a small part of me wanted to see him.
“We’re not walking back?” I asked.
We arrived in front of the palace and there was a car parked out front along with a driver dressed in a polite butler suit.
“The prince has ordered for one of his butlers to drive you back. According to the prince, you need to rest and avoid any kind of physical exertion,” the madame replied strictly.
The butler opened the back passenger door of the car for me and motioned with his hand for me to get into the car. Confused and feeling a little bewilder, I got into the car along with Madame Cassandra. It was a short ride back to the Maids’ quarter.
“You have no idea how lucky you are. Prince Leonard surely has a kind heart. He even gave you one whole week off from work,” Madame Cassandra said with a hint of disbelief as she ushered me into my room.
“He’s kind...” I murmured in agreement.
“Don’t overstep your boundaries just because he is kind to you. Prince Leonard is known for being noble and kind to everyone. He is the first prince of this kingdom and the most perfect prince. You should be very thankful to all the things that he’s done for you ever since he bought you,” Madame Cassandra lectured me as she tucked me into bed.
“Thank you...” I thanked her.
Moving from one bed to the next made me feel like I was a terminally ill patient although there wasn’t anything seriously wrong with me. Prince Leonard was clearly overreacting. What am I supposed to do for a whole week? Surely, he doesn’t expect me to spend the entire week in bed, right?
“Rest in bed, I’ll be back to visit you later tonight...” she said as she glared down at me.
“Umm...do I really have to stay in bed all day?” I asked timidly.
“Yes. You will stay in bed today. As for the other days...well...let’s see how quickly you recover,” the madame said.
With a firm nod at me, she strode out of my room before closing and locking the door firmly behind her.
...
**A few nights later**
Just like I was instructed, I spent the first day of my sick leave in bed until Madame Cassandra visited me later in the evening. The second day progressed by in an unfortunately similar manner to the first. By the time the madame visited me on the second evening, I was already bored out of my mind. After begging her for a long time for me to go outside, she finally relented and gave me permission to walk in the garden next to the maids’ quarters.
“You may go out to the garden; however, you are absolutely prohibited from working. You shall not clean, weed, or do anything in the garden. Is that clear?” Madame Cassandra asked as she stared right into my face.
“Yes. Thank you so much...” I thanked her with a polite smile.
Getting to go out to the garden improved my mood considerably. Walking around in the garden with many fallen leaves on the ground made me feel strange that I didn’t need to sweep or pick them out. It was the first time in my life that I didn’t have any work or tasks to do. Back in the orphanage, everyone had tasks and we all had to work to help each other out. Even the smallest of girls had her own set of responsibilities.
“Little flower, are you bored? You don’t have anything to do either, right? Are you bored just like me?” I asked a budding red rose after bending down to its level.
The roses in this garden and in this palace were so beautiful. I took a sniff of the aroma of the flower and a smile automatically appeared on my lips. At the same time, my mind wandered towards the only prince I knew that smelled like roses. I haven’t seen him since that day that he rescued me. As time passed by, the guilt that I felt for forgetting to thank him multiplied in my chest like a malignant tumor. My chest felt uncomfortable and tight whenever I thought of his face, his eyes, and how he liked to smile at me.
The next time we meet, I promise that I’ll thank you properly...
Evening came around again as the days seem to pass by uneventfully. By the fourth night, my body was completely back to normal. All the cuts on my skin had healed as well. The only thing that didn’t seem to heal with the passing of time was the trauma and fear that I still felt from being chased my wolves.
I honestly thought that I was going to die...
Just like clockwork, Madame Cassandra knocked on my room door before she came into my room for our daily evening session.
“Tomorrow night will be the night of the full moon,” Madame Cassandra said as she peered out at the moon that shone brightly up in the night sky.
“The moon here is very big...” I mumbled softly.
I had always thought that from the first time that I first saw the moon in this kingdom. The moon here seemed larger and definitely brighter and more captivating than the moon that I remembered back at the orphanage. I could tell that Madame Cassandra was probably right, the moon was indeed almost full. Just staring at the moon made a strange feeling stir in my lower abdomen.
For the past few days, my body had been feeling strange. I didn’t think that I was sick but at times my body would feel strangely heated as if I was walking through a hot breeze.
