Chapter 50: His Stubborn Girl

Instinctively, I tried to cover and hide my breast by folding my arms over my chest and turning away. Prince Leonard chuckled before he closed his eyes and began laughing opening. I took a step backwards when he suddenly took a step towards me, immediately close the distance between us.

“Get back in bed. You’re not well...” he ordered but his tone was gentle.

When his face came closer to mine and his blue eyes peered into my face, my chest started to feel tight. I have never felt my heart clench like this before. He was so close again and when I took another step backwards, he took a step forward to close the distance between us again. I must have been playing right into his hands because the more I retreated away from him, the closer I got to the bed. After taking yet another step backwards, I felt the bed against my backside.

“I should head back...” I murmured as I tried to avoid meeting his intense gaze.

“Get back in bed. That’s an order,” he ordered sternly.

His presence felt slightly intimidating, and his words seem to hold so much authority. However, that didn’t keep me from hesitating. I felt tired and I could feel the cuts on my body sting here and there when I moved; however, I wasn’t too unwell to make it back to my own room.

“I...” I began saying before I couldn’t go on anymore.

The way his blue eyes narrowed at me, and my disobedience told me that he was displeased. Prince Leonard let out a sigh as he continued staring down into my face.

“You’re a very stubborn girl...” he muttered softly as if he was talking to himself.

“Prince!” I cried out in shock.

Before I could move to get away from him, he had already lifted me up into his arms. This must be what they called being carried princess style. My heart danced wildly in my chest, and I could hear it beating in my ear like a loud drum. The prince stared down at me with a look of clear disapproval that made me feel like I was really a naughty girl.

“You’re so light. I can carry you and put you where I want easily,” Prince Leonard said casually as he slowly placed me down on his bed.

I felt the softness of his bed against my back and then the faint smell of roses enveloped me again. The prince stared down at me from where he stood next to the bed before his lips curved into a smile.

“Get some rest, little girl. I’m going to get a doctor to examine you again. Stay in bed, if you’re not here when I get back, you will be punished...” he warned.

He gave me a look that told me that there was some truth and real intentions behind his seemingly joking words. Stunned, all I could do was nod my head slightly to tell him that I understood. With a satisfied smile, the prince turned away and left the room.

I was still too shocked and stunned to find out that the man that I had been with was Prince Leonard all along. On top of that, he was the one who saved me from the wolves. My mind recalled that almost-touching scene of the prince interacting with the wolves as if they were his friends. The way the atmosphere shifted and how the wolves all reacted and changed at his sudden appearance was something that I couldn’t comprehend at all.

Aggressive wolves that were about to devour me suddenly became obedient like trained dogs in his presence. He stroked them and he even spoke to them. Did he understand what they said?

That’s just impossible.

How did he find me?

So many questions invaded my mind until I started to get a throbbing headache. For sure this time, I’m going to go crazy. I just couldn’t understand anything about what was going on at all. Although the prince had insisted that I get some rest by sleeping on his bed, my mind was too alert to get any sleep. I couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that I had been in the prince’s presence this entire time without knowing who he was.

I thought of his worried face when he looked at me when I first regained consciousness. He was truly concerned about how I was doing. It was strange to see his entire face without the dark sunglasses obstructing my view of his beautiful blue eyes. Those eyes that I had seen before on that fateful night at the black market auction and the face of the man that had been so kind to me came together to form the overly attractive face of the prince. It was just unbelievable.

Why had I been dreaming of him?

The dreams that I had of him were...

I bit on my lower lip before shaking my head rapidly to clear my thoughts before I would recall the things he said and did to me in my dreams. Those dreams are not real. I repeated those words over and over again in my mind. They cannot be real.

What am I supposed to do now?

I don’t even know how to react in his presence anymore. If he’s the prince, and he undoubtedly is, then I can’t spend time with him like we used to anymore. Although I had no idea why the prince was spending his precious time teaching me how to ride along with everything else, I knew that it must have been improper for him to do so. That was probably why he tried to hide his identity from me. He never gave me his name and he also didn’t want to know mine.

Maybe he was just bored...

I wonder what is going to change between us? What will happen to me now?

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. That startled me and snapped me out of my thoughts. I closed my eyes and let out a sigh when I realized that Prince Leonard must have returned with a royal doctor.

“Please come in...” I said while feeling strange that I was giving permission to the prince to enter his own bedroom.
