The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 395: Happier Now
Chapter 395: Happier Now
I had to say that her innocent and bright reactions didn’t quite match her looks and her voluptuous curvy body.
“Is that so? You must have been very surprised,” I said while thinking of my own reaction when I first heard of the concept of mates or that the prince had wolf genes.
“I was very surprised indeed. I thought he was playing me for a fool until he showed me a little of his transformation. You’ve seen it too, right?” Roxana asked.
I simply nodded my head in response to her question while thinking that I had more than just seen it.
“Well, anyways, that was how he managed to convince me at least about the wolf part of it. I still thought that seeing your fated partner in your dreams was a little bit too far of a stretch, but with you here right now, it just feels like magic,” she said as she pressed the palm of her hands together as if in prayer.
I had no idea that the two of them were that close to the extent that the prince would reveal his secret to her. However, I couldn’t feel anything but a very friendly and positive vibe from roxanna. If anything, she looks genuinely happy for the prince. Frankly, I found it quite amazing that she could maintain such a positive attitude after narrowly escaping death. I wondered if she knew just how serious her condition was, or perhaps she was just that forgiving and understanding.
“Let’s talk more later after you have rested. We have all the time in the world now that you’re feeling better. I’m going to call the doctor back here,” the prince said before he stood up from his seat.
“Sure, I just keep on chatting with Mila in the meantime,” Roxanna said while sounding super energetic.
At first, I felt slightly awkward now that I was alone with Roxanna in her room, but when she started talking to me again I found myself having a very smooth conversation with her. Roxanna seemed like a very honest and open person and that made me feel so at ease. It felt like she could tell that I was curious about her relationship with the prince, because she started telling me quite a few stories about how they met and how their friendship developed.
“What happened?” I asked without any further explanation.
The slightly stunned look on Roxanna’s face told me that she knew what I was referring to. I wanted to know exactly what happened and how she ended up unconscious and lost in deep slumber for so long in this hospital bed.
“They thought we were romantically involved and wanted to implant Prince Leonard’s child inside of me. I wouldn’t go as far to say that I was directly forced, but after hearing the punishment that he might have to go through or how a completely random woman would be forced to carry his child in this experiment if I were to refuse, I thought that it might as well be me...” she said before grinning my way.
For a moment, she looked sad and then so lost; however, in the next instant she looked determined and void of all regret for the decision that she had made.
“I’m so sorry,” I whispered because I didn’t know what else I could possibly say to console her.
“Honestly, there’s nothing for you to be sorry about. It was a decision that I made. I thought that it was the best decision at the time, and I still think it was the best decision right now. Of course, the experiment ended in failure and nothing came of it,” she said with a shrug of her shoulders as if it would make her feel like everything was okay.
Roxanna was silent for a woman as if she was collecting her thoughts. She turned to a smile at me a little before continuing with her story.
“Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret anything that I did. Honestly, I still find it hard to believe that I went so far for someone else. Apart from my sister, honestly there wasn’t anyone who I would consider a friend in my life. I worked as a prostitute, you see, before coming here. I guess life was quite tough and not a lot of people treated me with much respect. I’ve also been pregnant a few times before accidentally with all of them ending in miscarriages...” she said before she flashed me another smile filled with sorrow.
“You have the prince now...” I pointed out as my heart ached for her.
“You’re right about that. Anyways, I thought getting pregnant again wasn’t a big deal for me, so if I could do something to help him, then why not? I mean, he’s much better than any of the other men that I’ve been with...” she said as if it was as simple as a stroll in the park.
“You’re so brave...” I said honestly.
“Thank you! Honestly, talking to you makes me feel so much better. Never mind about me, I just hope that the prince is in a better situation now,” she said before showing me a hopeful smile.
I wasn’t certain what kind of situation Prince Leonard was caught up in back then, although I did have my suspicion. I stared at Roxana as I debated with myself whether I should tell her the truth that I wasn’t sure if the prince was in a much better situation than he was in before she drifted into slumber. Sadly, despite finding his fate mate, there wasn’t a child on the way that could help elevate any of his problems or the pressure that he was facing. I didn’t want to make it sound like all of her efforts were in vain.
“I don’t want to speak on the prince’s behalf because it might not be accurate, but I do think and hope that the prince is happier now than before. At least, I’m trying to do my best to support him in any way that I can,” I told her honestly while making a mental note to myself that my best may not necessarily be enough.
“Don’t look so worried and you should be more sure of yourself. I can tell that Prince Leonard is much happier now, at least compared to how I remember him,” she said before smiling widely at me.
