The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid
Chapter 325: Mysterious Gathering

Chapter 325: Mysterious Gathering

The mask covered more than half of my face from the top down. Only my lips and my chin were still exposed. It didn’t feel uncomfortable because the mask was light, and I could see quite clearly through the eyeholes of the mask.

“It looks good on you, My Lady,” the maid complimented me with a smile.

“Where am I going with this? Is there some kind of masquerade ball that I must attend?” I asked as I started to panic a little.

The dance lessons that I had taken with Duchess Flavia came flooding back to me. For a moment, I was worried if I still remembered the steps and if I could actually dance when it finally came time for it. Just thinking about it made my legs feel weak. Attending a ball would also mean that I would be meeting so many people that I wasn’t used to. Suddenly, I felt scared, and I no longer looked forward to spending the evening with Prince Leonard.

“I’m sorry, My lady. I have no idea what is planned for this evening,” the maid replied with clear regret in her voice.

“That’s ok. I guess I’ll be finding out soon anyways,” I muttered in reply.

As if on cue, there was a knock on the dressing room door. Instinctively, I could tell that Prince Leonard was standing on the other side of the door.

“It’s the prince...” I told the maid softly.

“Please have a pleasant evening,” she said to excuse herself.

She opened the door carefully to let the prince in before bowing respectfully and taking her leave. I turned and offered a little smile to the prince as I started to feel slightly embarrassed by the fact that I had a mask on. It felt strange to face him like this and although the majority of my face was covered, I still found it embarrassing.

“The mask looks good on you,” he teased me with a smile.

“Is it because it’s covering almost my entire face?” I asked in returned jokingly.

Prince Leonard just laughed a little at my joke before he offered me his arm. The prince was dressed in a black suit, and I quickly realized that he didn’t have a mask on.

“How come you don’t have to wear a mask?” I asked as I cocked my head slightly to the side curiously.

“I’ll put it on later. Don’t worry, you won’t be the only one wearing a mask,” the prince replied reassuringly.

By the time we got into the car to head to our destination it was already late at night, but the city was as busy as if it was still early evening or during the day. Looking out of the car’s window, I would see so many lights from the various restaurants and signs lining the side of the road. Many people walked around as if their day had just started. It was a sight and an atmosphere that I wasn’t at all used to.

“Are we going to some special event?” I asked as my eyes kept scanning the scenery that passed us by.

“You could say that,” Prince Leonard replied vaguely.

I decided to let our conversation drop for the moment as I started to feel a little excited and nervous as we drew closer to our destination. The ride turned out to be longer than I had expected.

“We should be arriving very soon,” the prince told me with a small smile.

“I see...” I murmured as I turned to focus on the view outside of the car window again.

The prince had a smile on his face as he slipped on a black mask onto his face. Seeing the mask on the prince’s face gave me a strong sense of déjà vu. The way the mask hid away his face so that only his piercing blue eyes was visible only made his eyes look even more captivatingly beautiful and I couldn’t help but stare at him as if lost in a trance for a moment.

When the car came to a stop, someone approached the prince’s side of the door and opened it. Prince Leonard stepped out of the car before extending an open hand toward me. I felt my heart thumping loudly in my chest as I carefully placed my hand into his much larger one. The warmth of his hand on mine as he wrapped his fingers around my hand felt unbelievably reassuring. He helped me out of the car while I struggled a little with the dress that I had on.

I wasn’t wrong about us attending an event of sorts. Many people dressed in fancy suits and dresses were there. Just like us, they all had masks on to hide their faces. I couldn’t tell who they were but even if I saw their faces, I doubted that I would recognize any of them.

“Is this some kind of party?” I murmured questioningly as I walked by the prince’s side.

“You could say that,” he replied as he gave my hand a slight squeeze.

People stood in small groups to chat and socialize as they sipped champagne. The atmosphere was quite relaxed and the sparkling chandeliers that shone down from above gave the atmosphere a very luxurious vibe. Although it seemed like a normal gathering, something told me that Prince Leonard must have had a very good reasons for attending. What else could possibly explain cancelling the rest of our trip and flying over here to attend this event.

“Would you like something to drink?” the prince asked.

“Oh, no. I’m fine, thank you...” I quickly replied.

“What about some food? Are you hungry?” he asked as he began leading me by the hand.

There were many types of food arranged in small bite-sized portions. I thought that they looked more beautiful than delicious. Honestly, I was too excited to feel hungry. Although I found it strange to wear the mask at first, I felt quite thankful for it because it helped me to relax. The fact that no one could stare directly at my face and the fact that I could hide my facial expression gave me some comfort. I was a long way away from getting used to these large gatherings and events.
