The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid
Chapter 324: A Mask

Chapter 324: A Mask

“You’ll find out soon enough,” he replied without giving me any real answer.

“Do you have some other work to do there?” I took a guess.

“You could say that” he replied without giving anything away.

“You’re always so full of secrets...” I mumbled softly to myself.

“Doesn’t that just keep you feeling excited?” Prince Leonard said happily.

“I don’t know. Sometimes it can be a little bit too much,” I replied honestly.

The prince just laughed at my response as if he found it to be entertaining. Although I had no idea what was going on, I was content with the fact that Prince Leonard seemed to be in much better spirits than during the dinner last night.

The flight was longer than the one before and I had to admit that it felt boring after a while. Even though I didn’t intend to, I ended up falling asleep and taking a nap just as the prince had suggested. By the time that I woke up, the plane was already descending. I looked out of the window to see that it was dark. As the plane continued its descent, I could see the sparkling lights from the city below.

“It’s pretty, isn’t it?” the prince asked in a whisper from close to me.

“Yes. It’s very pretty...just like little twinkling stars on the ground,” I replied in agreement.

I wondered where this place was and what business the prince had here. Now that we were about to land, I knew that I would find out sooner or later. By that time, I had lost all sense of time and didn’t know just how late in the evening it was.

“We have to get changed first. So, after we land, we’re heading to a hotel to do exactly that,” the prince informed me.

“Ok...” I murmured.

Apparently, where we were headed required that we change our outfits. I wondered if we were supposed to attend some fancy event or dinner again. The thought of meeting many people did not excite me at all and I began fearing that I would experience the same discomfort that I had at the dinner last night. That thought ran through my mind right until the moment the plane landed on the runway.

“Come along, Mila,” the prince urged as he stood up and offered me his hand.

I slipped my hand into his without any hesitation and then followed after him wherever he was going to lead me. After around an hour’s ride from the airport, we arrived in the heart of the city. The city was busy and filled with people walking around and cars on the road stuck in traffic. Unlike the prince’s country, there weren’t as many skyscrapers but the overall vibe of the city felt cheerful enough. Many people walked around in a hurry on the side of the road where I watched them from inside the large limousine.

“A maid will be here to help you get dressed. There’s no need to rush, we should be fine if we can leave within an hour,” the prince informed me casually.

“I think I can dress by myself,” I raised a slight objection because I didn’t want to be a burden to anyone.

“You should get all the help that you can,” Prince Leonard replied.

Before I could say anything, the prince left and closed the door behind him. There was a dressing room adjoined to the bedroom where I was in. Prince Leonard probably left to go dress up as well. I wondered again where he was going to take me and why we had to change clothes. A very short while later, there was a soft knock on the door that signaled that the maid was here to help me get changed.

“You may come in,” I called out.

The door wasn’t locked anyways. A woman that I thought I had seen a few times before came in. She held a few clothe hangers in her hand and a box under her arm while she seemed to be struggling a little under its weight.

“I can help...” I quickly offered.

“There’s no need to, My Lady. I’ll just hang them here,” she replied with a polite smile.

“Thank you. I think I can dress by myself,” I told her before returning her smile.

“Then, can you please put this dress on yourself. After that, I’ll come in and help you with the rest,” she said before gesturing to the dress.

Before I could ask her what else there was in addition to the dress, the maid bowed quickly and left the dressing room. Once the door closed, I ignored the nagging feeling at the back of my mind and quickly changed into the dress that had been prepared for me. The dress was ankle-length and had long sleeves. The design felt very elegant and classic. I stared at my reflection in the full-length mirror as I admired the pitch black dress on my body.

“I’m done!” I called out loud enough for the maid from earlier to hear.

“The dress looks amazing on you. I’m glad that it looks so well fitted. I had to prepare this dress on short notice so I was afraid that it may not be good enough for you,” she said with an approving nod.

“Oh no, there’s no need to worry about something like that. It looks great, thank you so much,” I quickly said to dismiss her worries.

“Now then, let me help you with this,” she said as lifted something up in her hands from the box that she had carried in with her earlier.

“A mask?” I asked with widened eyes.

The item that the maid had in her hands was a black lacy mask. I blinked my eyes rapidly a couple of times as I wondered why I had to wear something like that.

“Do I have to wear it now?” I asked in confusion.

“Yes. Please let me assist you with this,” she said with a nod of her head.

“Umm...ok...” I murmured.

The maid gently placed the mask on my face before moving her hands carefully to secure its fastening so that it wouldn’t fall off my face.
